"Best massage I've ever had! I've been to chiropractors in the past and they've told me my back looks like I was in a bad car wreck. Days after the chiropractor I'd be in so much pain. Oleg and Tatyana definetly know what they're doing! Oleg is great if you need more of a deep tissue massage and my girlfriend who is a little more sensitive to touch gets a great massage from Tatyana. We've been twice in less than a month- together they make a really awesome team for couples massages but individually excellent as well!!"

"I first visited Karen Riebel Kelley on the recommendation of a family member. I had experienced both neck and back pain for many years. "Traditional" medicine put me on muscle relaxants, with predictable adverse side-effects and little decrease in symptoms. Chiropractic offered some relief. Massage to me was something people might try on vacation, but certainly not something I thought would cure pain I had experienced for years. Massage simply sounded like a good "back rub". I was very skeptical of the entire process, especially when unfamiliar terms such as Cranial Sacral were used. While not an "instant cure", my condition gradually improved. Now, even when I "over-do" physically, one or two sessions and I am back to being pain free. "

"Holly is an amazing trainer. She clearly knows what she is doing. Her experience is very apparent in her work. She very friendly and straight to the point, at the same time she is incredibly kind. She encourages me and teaches me how to stay up float with my health and overall physical fitness. Now that I am working with Holly I don't want any other trainer. She make me feel comfortable and accommodating. I don't hold back with Holly. Fierce Fitness By Design is truly the best training center if you are serious and care about your health and fitness."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
