I took guitar lessons with Chris Mattingly from 2003-2005 and found the service to be outstanding. In 2003 I was 15 and had very little music education or experience with any instrument, but nonetheless Chris quickly set me on a course that would change my life. Chris had a clever way of making the lessons fun by quickly identifying the music I responded to and finding the right songs within that style that I could play even at a beginner level. Realizing I enjoyed blues and rock, Chris took me from Chuck Berry to Hendrix and Clapton within a few lessons. I remember being impressed at how he could put a CD of Hendrix or Clapton on, and transcribe it in real time. But the service didn't stop there, teaching rock and blues was only scratching the surface of what Chris had to offer. In under a year Chris had taught me to improvise my own melodies, learn advanced musical theory, read music, and begin playing jazz standards. I also want to mention that as a great teacher, Chris was also very personable, and had a great way of encouraging the students (I also took a group jazz class under his instruction). Chris was highly qualified, having both a bachelors and a masters in music, and as such, he was more than able to garner even my obsessive interest with the instrument. By the time I ended my time studying with Chris, he had helped prepare me for college auditions in classical guitar performance. I can only presume that Chris has continued to hone his excellence as an educator and player in the decade since I studied under him.
I offer live music for all occasions. I do recording by the hour. Lessons in guitar for all ages and levels are available. Bass ad drum lessons for all ages and levels are also available. I do vinyl records and have been doing the music thing for over 30 years. My physical location at 522 Washington, Shelbyville, Kentucky is open for business 5 days a week.
Some teachers teach exclusively from a book (usually a boring one, at that) but I also show students how to not just learn music, but create their own. Besides learning a variety of ways music is written, My students become good listeners as well, and can eventually teach themselves. It may put me out of a job, but that's part of the job!
I offer adventures, tour guide, guitar lessons, drum lessons, mountain biking and hiking. I am a world explorer and inventor.
I do music recording and production. I record solo artists and bands, and produce high-quality masters for release. I have a home studio, and I think you will be most happy with the results. I also give drum lessons, and can do it on a half hour or one hour basis. Info about me: Dino English earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, with an emphasis in Business and Music from Central Methodist University. Born in 1968 as the youngest sibling, Dino came up in a musically-oriented family. His mother studied vocals in college, and all his brothers play various stringed instruments. Dino was introduced into the world of recording by his oldest brother who owned and ran The Sound Factory recording studio in Tucson, Arizona throughout the 80s and early 90s. Dino studied drum set and percussion throughout college, playing in jazz and concert bands. During college and after graduating, Dino pursued a career in music writing and performing with bands. While playing in The Icons and Vitamin A, Dino wrote and performed original material along with covering other artists. He then went on to moonlight for many years in a Grateful Dead cover band, The Schwag, and jam band The Kind. Dino then joined Dark Star Orchestra in 1999, and has been touring with the band ever since. Dino has played with and/or recorded some of the world's finest musicians, and has appeared in such magazines as Rolling Stone, Relix, and Drum Magazine.
