I initially wanted a full-service move, but I was moving from a small town in Arkansas and none of the big name moving companies like Mayflower or Allied Van Lines could guarantee a crew for my area. I ultimately selected Cenla for a full pack and loading of our two bedroom apartment for $1,000 - we rented and drove a UHaul ourselves.
Cenla brought three movers - Wayne, Paul and Alfred, but Wayne supervised - he didn't pack or load. Paul was great - very polite, efficient and hard-working. They showed up at 10 a.m. and finished around 3 p.m.
I think Cenla runs a pretty lean operation. Previous movers estimated I would need 25-30 boxes, which I had relayed to them. They showed up with 20, which did the job but I wouldn't have minded the extra wiggle room of having a few more boxes. There were a handful of oddly shaped items that got tossed in the truck that ideally I would have preferred been boxed - but I didn't make a fuss about it. They also arrived with just a few small rolls of bubble wrap - but that wasn't a huge deal because I already had a large roll and Wayne did end up making a run to Home Depot for more when they started packing the kitchen.
The reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because of the communication. When we initially spoke on the phone about two months before my move, Wayne said the only packing supplies I would need to be responsible for were the moving blankets (which I did arrange for). He did email a picture of a contract, but all it said was for packing and loading. I would have preferred something a little more detailed and buttoned up, especially since I had to send a $200 deposit over Moneygram to lock in our moving date. A few days before our move I proactively reached back out to Cenla, just to confirm everything was still set. Luckily, I thought to specifically ask about boxes. Apparently Wayne thought I was supplying them, which was not what we initially agreed to over the phone - but he did bring them in the end.
I also felt uncomfortable when Wayne asked me more than once to leave a positive review of Cenla on Thumbtack before they even left our apartment. I like to leave thoughtful customer reviews, and I didn't want someone hovering over me while I did it. I also just wanted to clean my apartment and get on the road ASAP - the review wasn't really a top priority on my to-do list at that moment.
Communication preferences aside, I think Cenla, overall, offered good value for the money. I was definitely grateful I didn't have to do all of that packing and loading with our move.
