The two movers were exceedingly professional and polite. I ended up having a considerable delay with my moving truck, and the on-site movers and the the Boostco owner were all helpful and patient. They were careful with my belongings, which they moved into a storage unit, and had no issues with following specific directions. They were also very responsive to communication before and during the move. Very reasonably priced considering the level of service. I would absolutely hire them again. Overall a pleasure to work with, and knew how to move and keep things packed correctly in the truck and unharmed in the move.

Move It by Bike – Review Tim and his crew arrived punctually at the scheduled time, which was early in the day since I wanted to avoid the afternoon summer heat. Of all the bids I received, this was the earliest start time I was offered and a big point in Tim’s favor. Everyone was friendly and ready to work. They were great at loading their own stackable plastic bins, which were brought to me well in advance without an extra charge. Tim made two trips before the move to bring me a total of 20 bins. Packing them was easier and faster than filling cardboard boxes since they’re sturdier and lock in place when stacked. No messing with all that tape either. However, they were quite dirty and tiny roaches were crawling on some of them. They could use a good power-wash. Tim did not give me a deadline for returning the plastic containers, which was really helpful after many days of packing and a stressful and tiring day of moving. I unpacked and returned the bins within 4 days anyway, which is faster than I would’ve unpacked my own cardboard boxes. The main reason was to help Tim in case he had another customer, but the roaches also motivated me. I was impressed by Tim’s concern for his crew – belts and straps to help carry the heavy stuff, plus verbal pointers on how to lift. Concern for furniture was not as good. Two fabric chairs were loaded without being wrapped so one of them received a stain I suspect is permanent, probably oil based. Also, wood shelves were loaded without any attempt to prevent scratches. Before the job, Tim walked through my apartment and came up with an estimate and commented that it was probably too high. In fact, he estimated 4 hours and it took 5. This is probably due to inexperience. I expect he’ll get better at calculating the various factors – how much stuff is there, how far away is the move, how much fits in each wagon, how fast or slow his crew works. He even forgot that there were stairs at my new place, and that’s a major time factor in any move. Nevertheless, the final cost was less than any of the truck movers that bid on my move since their hourly rates are much higher. They will no doubt move you faster, but the total price will still be more than Tim’s. The biggest disappointment was Tim’s handling of damage to my TV cabinet. The piece is about 5 ½ feet tall and stands on legs that are 18 inches. He watched his crew trying to carry the cabinet up a flight of stairs UPRIGHT. On the second step, the crew said they were having problems lifting the legs over each step. Clearly, the cabinet should have been on its BACK. The end result was a broken leg. In addition, I have since discovered deep scratches on each side of the cabinet from the lifting straps, which aren’t padded to prevent that sort of thing and which would have been on the back side of the cabinet if carried up properly. Tim’s reaction to the broken cabinet leg was to imply that the piece was already broken and/or that I should have warned him that it was in poor condition to begin with. These are issues that only experience will improve. The best position to carry the cabinet should have been discussed beforehand. And despite my attempts to be tactful by saying the piece was cheap, Tim should have taken responsibility for the broken leg which was not broken at the beginning of the trip since it was standing perfectly fine when they took it out of the old apartment. Taking ownership for the breakage and offering a small discount would have gone a long way, although four days later he did offer to locate a replacement part. In the end, I’m glad I used Move it by Bike for my most recent move and I’d hire Tim again. It’s a new business and he still has many things to learn and improvements to make. But the concept is good in so many ways! Eco-friendly. A small, local enterprise. Innovative. Creative. As fun as working your butt off can be. And funky in a N’Awlins sort of way. I’m pleased that I had the chance to help this new business in its early stages. Best of luck to Tim and Move It by Bike!

Without a doubt this was the smoothest move I've ever experienced. Nikita is the consummate professional. His experience, expertise and pride in his profession are so refreshing and absolutely without equal. With his pleasant and obliging personality, he immediately exudes confidence and trust that assuage your anxious soul. After all, does anyone enjoy moving? I absolutely cannot say enough about this exemplary Christian man and his partner, Jason. Further, because he was not comfortable moving my piano, he helped me research piano movers and even a handyman for hanging prints, mirrors, etc. If you are considering a move, Nikita and Turnaround Household Services will truly make it rhythmic and untroubled. Further, when he still hadn't stopped, but I HAD, he recommended two fabulous ladies who polished my former home from top to bottom. What an amazing team he leads! Thank you with all my heart, Nikita, and, of course, Thumbtack. Pamela

Chris showed up on time, was efficient and stayed on task, and was friendly and easy to work with. Chris's price was reasonable and he was careful with his work. He handled the furniture we put together carefully so it was not damaged or scratched in any way and took time and effort to put it together right. Will hire him again.

The movers were a little late, but called in advanced to let me know. They kept me updated every step of the way. When they moved me I understood why they were late (bc they took there time with my precious furniture and made sure not damage anything ) . Very professional. If I need movers in the future, I will use them.

I contacted Nice Guy movers to move a law office within a short time frame. It took 3 guys about 5 hours because of large office furniture. They were courteous, professional, and worked hard the entire time. I highly recommend Nice Guy Movers and would definitely use them again.

Steve and Dave were great! They helped me move out of my storage unit and pu together the furniture once it was in my house and then put a lot of boxes the attic. They were very polite and accommodating and at a fair price. I would definitely hire them again.

Moving day is always so stressful for me! When Kevin and his crew got there, I was immediately at ease. They offer packing and cleaning services, as well, which makes it even easier! No time constraints, or hourly rates. Just one flat fee for as many movers as needed to get it done, and quickly! AND they understand that moving is already expensive, before the movers! They are willing to work with you and your budget, and even offer a payment plan! I will recommend them to everyone I know, and if I move again, they will be the ones I call!

I have been using Out of the Box Moving Service, LLC for the last five years, anytime I need anything moved, I call Matt. He's done everything from moving me from place to place, to picking up and delivering appliances. My mother has even hired him to rearrange furniture in her house. I have never been disappointed with his prices or service. He's the only person, the only company I trust to touch my belongings.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
