Gianni Palermo and his Quality 4 Less LLC: Extremely high quality work, very fairly priced, with honesty being Gianni's greatest asset, all of which were on display in his work at my residence in July 2014 in laying concrete with a slate tile border on an inclined walkway up to my front door and on sidewalk by driveway, pressure washing outside of house, sidewalk and driveway, installing tiles in my bath/shower from shower head level extending to ceiling, and installing a new toilet seat. I will be recommending him to numerous people for remodeling projects in the residence. Therefore, 5 stars with a plus, for not only "outstanding" but also "superlative". Richard L. Mr Duncan took my problems with my home on his off day. He quoted the job the same day and came back the next day and completed my home repairs. He fixed a roof leak, changed ceiling tiles and installed recess lights, replaced kitchen faucet and repaired a drain line. He showed up to the house early with necessary tools to do the repairs...Highly recommend Mr Duncan!!!!!!!!!!

We hired Br Pro Painting to complete multiple projects around our house that we'd been meaning to handle for a couple months now (painting, drywall repair, fence repair, broken tiles in the bathroom, a door that wouldn't close, etc.). When Gustavo and Ruben began working, we discovered that our drywall repair actually included mold, termites, and rotten wood and became a much more extensive repair than anticipated. They communicated every step along the way to us and did the work right (no easy/quick fixes) at a price we felt was fair. Overall, we would recommend Br Pro Painting to anyone looking to tackle projects around the house (even beyond painting). They worked efficiently, were very friendly and trustworthy, and overall did a great job.

MPS Flooring installed tile floors in my Louisiana State Welcome Center. They were very professional, friendly, prompt, and cleaned up after the job. We greet out-of-state visitors on a daily basis and are quite proud to show our floors (and the whole center) to our guests who have also been impressed. I would highly recommend this company.

Working with Legacy was a great experience. Noel and his team were very responsive and professional. They spent time during every step of the process to explain, and see if we had questions or concerns. They did an absolutely beautiful job on our wood floors and our stairs. I would highly recommend them.

I recently hired Todd to install wood floors in my dining room. The house is older and thankfully he was able to fix some of the problems that arose during the installation. He was very professional and did an amazing job. Because of the quality of his work, I then hired him to paint my living room and kitchen. I would definitely recommend him!

We had a problem with the installation of our wood floors that were put in by a large commercial flooring company. Rick Meador, a contractor and friend, recommended JS Flooring to install the new flooring. Jeff was meticulous with preparation of the slab, installed the moisture barrier, and installed our new beautiful wood floors! He even put in the shoe mounding, which saved me from having to bring in a trim carpenter. Each day, Jeff cleaned the work area, and at the completion of the installation he cleaned the floors, saving us more work. He was very prompt, but thorough too!

We hired SEC HomeRemodeling to repair and remodel our bathroom floor and shower surround. The subfloor had rotted away under our existing 50 year old tile floor in our sole bathroom. Paul and Todd fixed the structural problems under our floor (repairing/adding floor joists, installing new subfloor) and now we have a beautiful, solid porcelain tile floor. They also remodelled our tile shower surround and installed a new tub and bronze shower hardware. We love our new bathroom. You can see the handmade quality work and the attention to detail that Paul and Todd put into our project. Our remodel came in on budget and was completed a few days earlier than the estimated time. We put our trust in this company, and they respected that trust. Overall, we had a great experience with SEC Home Remodelling, and we will use them for future projects.

This was by far the best experience of our lives when hiring an unknown person. Anthony Lott is a professional in all aspects of his craft. His work is perfect, as he is a perfectionist. He is punctional and pleasant. We found out that he is not only a painter but does floors, ceramic tile, Sheetrock and carpenter work and much more. He will be returning here to do ceramic tile work and carpenter work in the future. We have not only found the perfect person for all of our needs but feel like we have made a new friend for life. Today as I put my furniture back in place, and looking at this beautiful job I feel blessed to have met Anthony Lott. Audrey and Joe Ballon, Franklinton la

I have had the two brothers remodel two rental homes for me recently. In four months they never left my jobs for another job. They stay at your job until they finish. They painted interior and exterior, layed tiled floors throughout the house and layed tile up the walls and around showers in bathrooms, tore down walls, moved plumbing from one wall to another, repaired leaks in my bathroom walls, scraped popcorn ceilings to make smooth ceilings, installed all new appliances in one house, cut and installed my formica countertops. What makes them so incredulously unique and that when they see another small problem that they encounter, they fix it without asking. For example, they spotted a beam in the attic that was not supported structurally and they just fixed it. I thought I would have to hire a roofer for that area. I haven't come across a task that they have not tackled yet. And because they are so efficient, I was able to lure renters into my newly renovated homes quickly.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
