Introduction: Arts and Rhythm Ballroom Dance Studio is the premier ballroom dance studio in the New Orleans area. It is owned by Irene Martin Torres, who has been involved in ballroom dancing, instruction and competitions for over 30 years. We offer many different classes during the week by appointment. Our styles include cha-cha, waltz, rumba, bolero, polka, merengue, samba, salsa, Viennese waltz, hustle, foxtrot, tango, east and west coast swing and mambo. Our new studio features beautiful wood floors in a mirrored, well-lit ballroom, with a professional sound system to give you the best ambiance while learning. We pride ourselves in our ability to make everyone comfortable in our welcoming and friendly dance atmosphere. Arts and Rhythm proudly endorses the Dance Vision International Dance Association's (DVIDA) curriculum. Occupying volumes and covering the full range of American, international, Latin American, country and western, competitive, theatrical and exhibition dancing, the DVIDA system has the most fully documented and up-to-date dance knowledge available in the world. This curriculum is the subject of daily study by our dance directors and teachers. Ultimately, the student sets the pace. You choose how good you want to be. Most students who come to us wish to be good social dancers. The DVIDA medalist program can help you achieve that goal. If exhibition or competition (dance sport) is something that interests you, we can train you in the latest techniques, steps and styles. We are also to create custom choreograph routines for your special events like weddings and Quinceañeras.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

You do not need a partner. Very few people are coupled at our classes. We rotate couples so that you can learn from experienced dancers as well as assist the newcomers. All of the sessions are intense so you definitely get a workout, so dress comfortably. There is no dress code. There are many in jeans, although some prefer to dress up. But anything is fine. Also, wear comfortable shoes that don't have rubber soles (rubber soles make it difficult to move and turn). Dancing is the first step of social activity. Good dancing is a lifetime investment in fun, poise, confidence, improved personality and new friends. Beyond these, dancing is a superb physical conditioner - providing fun, without working at it! It opens up a wonderful new world of togetherness and a thriving year-round social calendar.
