I recently adopted a dog after being afraid to get one for a long time because of my work schedule. Had I known about Uptown Girls Pet Sitting, I would have adopted ages ago. My dog adores them, they take wonderful care of him on his daily walks, and I feel like they care for him like one of their own pets! They are true animal lovers and so helpful. They are flexible and adapt to my often crazy work schedule (even last minute rescues when I have to stay late). They have taken the guilt away from being a working dog owner, and I am forever grateful....they are THE BEST!!

My deepest thanks and gratitude to Bluetails pet care and animal rescue! They took such great care of Mookie while we were away! Our boy is a nervous pervis and needed a home style environment rather than what I think of when I think of traditional boarding, and that's exactly what he got, a loving home and lots of affection! Courtney who runs it is very professional, but in such a warm and caring way, and she has a very high dog IQ. Courtney went above and beyond to keep in touch during Mook's stay and update us with pics and videos, and you could see as days went on Mook was totally relaxed and being his usual lovebug self, so we know he was getting constant attention. We will DEFINITELY be turning to her again when we need to go away. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND Bluetails to everyone who may need to board their four legged baby!

We've known Cambre since she was a vet tech at Audubon Veterinary Hospital and she provided immaculate service & care to not only our felines, but every animal that crossed her path. She became our pet sitter immediately upon opening this business. How awesome that our bebe`s do not have to go through what used to be a traumatic boarding experience, but get personal visits, playtime & provision from such a loving and lovely person! She cared for Billie Holiday & Francis Poulenc until their passing (at 11 & 12 years of age). She cared for Bootsie until her recent passing at age 18+. We have continued joy and peace of mind that she cares for our newest additions to the family, Josephine & Theodora Louise! We are smitten with them and we're all smitten with Cambre! With much appreciation & gratitude - Love you!

Laura was extremely responsive to our messages and we chose her to care for our cat. My boyfriend was very nervous leaving the cat and Laura made the whole experience run smoothly. She visited daily and our cat (Kennedy) absolutely loved her. She sent photos and messages after every visit and our cat seemed very happy with her. She was so nice that she left a catnip toy that he is OBSESSED with for him to play with. We would 100% recommend Laura to anyone looking for a pet sitter in the New Orleans area, and will not hesitate to hire her again if needed. Thank you so much Laura!!

Stacey impressed me from the start! She has a high level of integrity and a natural way with animals. She is honest, intelligent, caring and professional, which immediately allowed me to trust her. She comes prepared with a packet which included a number of pertinent questions regarding the needs of my kitties and myself. She is beyond organized which I love. An organized pet sitter truly a beautiful thing. Stacey is insured and bonded as well as Red Cross certified which speaks volumes. Not only does she have her own pets to whom she is devoted, she also volunteers at the LA-SPCA, opening her heart and home to foster animals. We have three male cats; Allie, Tim-Tim and Sammy with totally different personalities. Prior to meeting with Stacey, while chatting on the phone, I mentioned that our cat Allie has Pica and is highly anxious. Pica, is a disorder that causes my cat to chew and swallow non edible materials such as garbage bag ties, dental floss, string, ribbons, etc. It is a very scary disorder and Stacey was familiar with it. Stacey, asked apt questions regarding Allie’s behavior and what he inappropriately chews and/or eats. On one of our trips, I suddenly thought I had left dental floss on the kitchen table. Stacey immediately checked and verified that I had not left anything out, alleviating my worry. Allie is such an anxious kitty that he only allows myself and my husband near. It was truly amazing to see that after 4 days, Allie allowed Stacey near. She sent the pictures as the proof! She watered my out door plants, collected our mail and newspaper daily. We received a "final notice" informing us of a parcel that needed to be picked up at the post office. Stacey was so sweet she offered to pick it up. She also helped me with selecting the right food for Sammy who needed to lose a little weight. She suggested switching Sammy to grain free cat food and voila, he is losing weight! In addition, I consulted with my Veterinarian regarding Sammy’s diet and he supported the diet change. Last but not least is Tim-Tim, my totally lovable and trusting cat who Stacey confirmed was the most approachable of my kitties. However, Stacey spent time loving, playing and caring for ALL of our babies. Every day she sent me amazing, frame-ready photographs and informative texts which I totally loved! She was a real God send! Stacey really understands animals on a level that I've never seen in anyone. You could seriously compare her to a dog/cat whisper. She gave me certain advice and information with regards to understanding our pets and how they think. Stacey is really born to care for animals! She came into our home and surpassed all of our expectations. She took care of everything! There is NOTHING like knowing your babies are being taken care of by someone who loves animals and has such a good heart, as Stacey does. Anyone who hires her will love her to pieces and know that they are leaving their babies in the BEST hands! Sincerely, Erin C.

        About

I am an animal enthusiast and appreciator from Massachusetts, now living in New Orleans, LA. My love for animals began from a young age with family pets and only blossomed from there with my connection to all animals I've met. I am a dedicated member of the ASPCA and have developed the knowledge and awareness necessary to provide care and comfort to dogs, cats and other animals. Having volunteered at a variety of dog and cat shelters, I know the fun (walking, socializing, and feeding) and understand the not so fun but necessary aspects of caring for animals (cleaning). Let me help exercise, feed, clean after and be present with the animals you know and love when your busy schedule is at its peak.

        About

I always had animals growing up, mostly dogs. I love all animals, especially dogs. I currently own a pit bull terrier.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

        • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
        • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
        • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
        • What are your different walk routes?
        • When will you pick up and drop off?
        • How will we communicate?
        • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
        • What’s your cancellation policy?
        • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
        • How and how often do I pay you?
        • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

        What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

        What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

        • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
        • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
        • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
        • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
        • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
        • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
