Introduction: My work stands out because I can do a lot with very little, creating high-end editorial looks in otherwise ordinary situations. Coming from a film production background, I like to include movement in my photographs as well as a strong emphasis on storytelling. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. I was once given awesome advice by the world-renown photographer, Douglas Kirkland (he did the most amazing photos of Marilyn Monroe), who said that a portrait is made by the subject and the photographer. So I listen to my subjects and we build a photograph together.

I hired Carlos to take a family portrait. He immediately put the entire family (grandparents, adults and children) at ease. He had very interesting ideas in staging the photos and the outcome was more than I could have hoped for. There were so many excellent photos that it made choosing one so difficult! He is professional and personable and has an amazing eye. I highly recommend him.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes. I regularly attend workshops and read everything I can from photographers I admire.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
An obsession with imagery, whether in a movie or in a picture. I worked for a healthcare company many years ago and the one thing my co-worker/friends affectionately said to me was that I didn't belong in an office environment. Working full-time as a photographer was the best thing I've ever done.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
There was an event I shot recently that wasn't very fun but in an effort to create a dynamic, exciting look, I pretended that I was shooting a project for Magnum Photos (my dream agency to work for). As a result, the photos came out great!
