Introduction: I provide pet sitting for both cats and dogs. I have been fortunate to have had cats and dogs for most of my life. I presently share a home with a rescued three year old Great Pyrenese, a two year old Rhodesian Ridgeback, a somewhat neurotic but very lovable rescued eight year old Chinese Crested Powderpuff, and a beautiful eight year old Abbysinnian cat named Abby. I have always had a way with animals and believe that they instinctively recognize people with kind souls.
I have also enjoyed owning and training a wonderful German Shepherd named Caesar, a playful Rotweiler that my son named Spot, and a regal Norwegian Elkhound, named Flicka. As far as cats go, I've been have had a Russian Blue, two Tonkinese, two Tortoise Shell and two mixed breeds. I enjoy giving our furry friends the attention and TLC they need and deserve.
I routinely walk and feed dogs, feed cats and clean their litter boxes, and I can also feed birds, fish, hamsters and most anything else at no extra cost--other than snakes. I am happy to bring in your mail, turn lights on or off and perform any other related tasks you might require.
I believe that there are many good pet care providers. However, the only time I ever needed to leave my pet behind, I couldn't find one who had had a criminal background check, like I have. While I think I'm a pretty good judge of character, I couldn't bear to take the chance of having my cat harmed or let outside by someone. My furniture and other possessions can be replaced; my wonderful cat and best friend cannot.
While I'm relatively new to Thumbtack and the Asheville area (I've lived with my best friend of over 40 years on Shope Creek Road since August of last year. She's lived here for 10 years). Cats and dogs are precious in that their love is unconditional. I enjoy working with them for that reason and because I find it so rewarding. In 2001, I was badly injured when struck by a drunk driver and left for dead. I sustained crush injuries and multiple organ failure before being rescued. It took six years and several small miracles before any feeling returned to my paralyzed right arm.
My doctors recommended a "therapy" pet and that is when I chose Abby, my beloved Abbysinnian cat. She's been with me since 2007, and I credit her with helping me to recover working use of my arm and hand against incredible odds. I've seen animals literally save people's lives and will never consider their care as true "work." Practicing law was work; pet sitting is much more fun. I'm thankful to be able to do something I really love during this period of semi-retirement.
