FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Yes, it is important for mediators to keep up to date with their profession and there are many professional organizations who support their members in doing this and hold annual conferences with training opportunities for members. I am a Board member at the New England Association of Conflict Resolution and have been actively involved in my own continuing development and in training others throughout my practice including a Master level program in workplace conflict in 2010.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure that the provider is properly qualified - currently anyone can call themselves a mediator in MA. Check their training, memberships and experience in handling your kind of problem and that their approach will match your needs.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

It's an old joke amongst mediators that people often misread and think what we do is meditation. More often these days people think they know what mediation involves but may not have an accurate picture - for example, most mediators will not tell you what to do, unlike arbitartors who will hear your case and issue a decision.
