She Inspires Me to Be My Best
I have been taking voice lessons from Julie Kinscheck for over three years now and am very pleased with her as a teacher. I have a very busy schedule as a manager and she has been very flexible in making the lessons happen. These lessons have built my confidence and inspired me to perform more often because of my growth as a singer. I enjoy singing in the regular student recitals. I appreciate her patience helping me to learn to read music, improve my breath support, tone and more. She also has a good listening ear when I need to talk. She motivates me to want to practice to be my best. I also see she is an excellent role model for her younger students, always willing to expand her own horizons by learning and then teaching them songs which they want to perform. She genuinely cares about her students and takes a personal interest in their lives. You can tell she has a passion for teaching. I highly recommend her!

Julie is an awesome teacher. She values vocal health a lot and went through all those vocal cord protection tips that I wish I could have known earlier. She also emphasizes expressiveness. I used to sing classical pieces so her jazz background gave me a lot of fun experience. Overall my experience is fantastic. She's a very qualified teacher and I feel comfortable singing with her.

Thank you so much, Kaiwen! You are a joy and a talent!

Unfortunately I was unable to actually do a lesson with Julie, we are in the midst of a family member's illness. However, she was quick to follow up with me, and always a professional. I hope to work with her after things settle down over here.

I make my living as a singer, but I've picked up several bad vocal habits over the years I wanted to correct. Julie has helped me identify several of these in the couple of months I've been working with her and things have been going great!

My 9 year old daughter has been taking guitar lessons with Julie for a year. She has progressed nicely and really enjoys the lessons. The end of the year recital was wonderfully entertaining and a great goal for my daughter to work towards. Julie has been easy to communicate with and I have already recommended her to other mothers.

Thank you for this review! Maggie was a joy to teach!

  • William C. Jul 24, 2014
I was a voice student of Julie's for several years. In that time I grew in my skill and confidence as a singer. I learned how control my instrument, and event after the lessons ended, the impact carries on! She also helped me feel comfortable in many genres including country, blues and rock. Julie was always patient with me, even when I was being thick-headed. I always felt encouraged through by her teaching and mentoring. I can say with full confidence that I would not be the singer I am today without Julie!
    Julie K. Apr 9, 2015

Thank you for this review! William came to me as a man desiring to sing but with limited knowledge and confidence. After some time in my studio he progressed to singing lead parts and solos in his large 500 plus member church!

Q&A

How did you get started doing this type of work?
Ok- Time to be humble! Like many of us performers- I thought I'd be a big star some day! God has blessed me to do many really awesome shows, play on tv, radio, get written up in the paper, put out CDs- but your average person doesn't know me... And along the way people kept asking me to teach them. I also was already volunteering to direct children's choirs at church, too. At first I just had a few a students a long side my own gigging. Then, when I really needed a second job and wanted to do something else in music, the opportunity arose for me to be an artist in the Boston public schools. From there I got certified to teach music for elementary and middle schools. I did that for several years and then I got pregnant with twins. Once they were born, I knew I couldn't go back either to teaching school full time or gigging full time- so I stepped out on faith and built a teaching studio in our home. In the last 10 years that studio has grown from a handful of students to now over 30 regular students. And given the nature of the job (students come and go with the waves of life and work) that means I have now taught 100's! In the last two years I have expanded from teaching only at my studio in person to also teaching over Skype- even internationally.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look for someone who has at least a few years both performing professionally and teaching. From performing I have learned the long way many lessons I wish a teacher had shared with me- I now share these with you. Also- with every student I become a better teacher! From one student I have learned many different ways to teach breath support (because if they didn't get it one way- I had to try something else!), from another student I learn effective ways to overcome nerves and stage freight! etc...
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Learning to sing and play is good for you in every way! Yes, reading music helps math and reading skills- and give kids something fun and productive to do with some of their time- but it also is the most wonderful way to express your feelings... whether in front of a large crowd or in your bedroom alone, you can pour out your heart- and get a super lot of joy out of it along the way- and it is a wonderful way to encourage others!
