Sean was on time and did a great job! Respectful of my property and caused no damage to my lawn. His equipment was amazingly powerful and not that noisy. Able to chew up 3 stumps in no time at all. Not only do I plan on recommending him to my friends, family and neighbors but plan on using him again for various tree services. Plus, he's a proud veteran which I will always give my business to.

Adelso is very professional and knowledgeable. He is committed to the outcome of his projects. I asked to have my lawn replaced with new seed and have branches cut from a large tree in my yard. I am thrilled with his work!

Great group of guys!! Very impressed with how quickly they responded and completed the job. They removed two very large branches off of a 40' tree that were hanging over our house. We would hire them again in the future.

They responded immediately even though the area was recovering from a bad storm. Did the job well for a good price. They were late for the appointment to do the work which was understandable with all the emergencies going on at the time.

Unbeatable price! Dan and his guys where friendly courteous and professional. We initially had Dan over for a leaf clean up estimate. While taking a closer look we noticed some dead trees carpenter ants or termites had devoured, and decided they should be removed. My hubby got carried away and decided we had too many thin but tall trees that weren't appealing. 30 to be exact. The price to remove them was unbeatable and Dan and his crew where available the very next day. They came and spent about 7 hours removing the trees. The job was completed and no more pointless trees in our yard. My only complaint is it was very messy and the yard now looks a mess, but thats not their fault I guess, it was just a messy job. Now I need a leaf/yard cleanup that fits the budget after the tree removal. Overall great job! Thanks Dan and crew!!

Mark, the owner from, MSF Landscapes was great. He gave us a reasonable estimate and we hired him. He exceeded our expectations. They installed a beautiful outdoor patio and kitchen as well as an irrigation system. It was a great example of under promising and over delivering. In fact, we will be using his company to install outdoor lighting and large trees in the fall. I would highly recommend this company.

PJ and his team were super responsive, fairly priced, efficient, and professional. They removed some large bunches of tree brush from our yard. They arrived when they said they would (with text updates!), were super kind, and did excellent work. We’d absolutely work with the Weymouth team again!

We just had a large pile of yard waste that needed to be removed, but Daniel was able to give us a quote, drop by our house to check his estimate, and get the work done within a few days. He worked quickly and was clean, and we couldn't be more happy with that pile finally gone! I will absolutely contact him in the future when I need additional landscaping services.

Jim was great! He came out right on time and even though the job was bigger than expected (I didn't do a great job describing it), he took it on no problem. It was splitting large logs fro a tree we had taken down and hauling away. Will most certainly be hiring Jim going forward. Thank you, Jim!

Brent Morrissey is determined to satisfy his customers. Despite being busy he went out of his way to quickly meet with me to discuss the work and write up a quote. My new front walk is lovely and a joy to walk on. He started and finished the work when he said he would. The ground preparation was done properly, and attention was paid to get the grading right for a somewhat tricky transition from the front steps, over a large tree root to the driveway while ensuring water drainage was away from the house. The pavers were carefully installed as described by the manufacturer. Details matter; when using the polymeric sand, I noticed Brent first used a blower to ensure the pavers were dry and clean before wetting the sand. The world is not perfect and it's when the unexpectd happens that you find out what kind of person you're dealing with. Brent and crew are the best. The job was finished and Brent was onto his next job when a subcontractor retreiving his dumpster damaged an edge of my driveway. Brent and crew were right on it and returned promptly to set things right. His crew is very experienced and a pleasure to work with. Yes, I highly recommend Magnolia Site Works.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
