Your search for a personal trainer is done. I found Doug through Thumbtack last spring which was my first experience using this site. I have worked with personal trainers in the past but none as knowledgeable, thorough, friendly, and versatile as Doug. I injured my knee over a year ago and he was able to work within my abilities to strengthen my knee as well as build up my conditioning overall so making my physical life better than it has been in a while. I am not done yet...I am trying to maintain for a while on my own but will be back to work with Doug again.

Great personal trainer. She trains my mom and I and she does a great job. She’s patient and we always get a great workout. I appreciate that she cares about form during exercises. She’s challenging (but it’s a good challenge)

Lou is fun, friendly, caring, and fair. He loves his job and is not just a personal trainer but a nutritionist which is super helpful. Even with one 1 hour workout a week with him I see results, which is hard to believe but true! He is helping me gain muscle. I love that he is conscious of the type of supplements he recommends and he is an advocate of natural eating, unlike many trainers out there who recommend terrible harsh products. He is encouraging, reasonable, and pushes me to the right extant, and is careful to avoid injury. Lou fosters healthy body image.. He asked what my goals are and is quick to respond to emails, texts and other communication. He has a flexible schedule and will work with the client's busy schedule to schedule sessions. He is a good guy... I certainly recommend him to anyone.

I met Sue over two years ago and sat and discussed my overall goals as far as fitness and where I wanted to be. I have crushed those goals and much more. In the past year I have accomplished so many things I never imaged, running competitively, benching over 100lb, squatting more than my weight, etc. I think Sue's energy is great and believe she picked the right career move because she is a great personal trainer.

Ryan offerred a free trial, which I think is fabulous. Not only did the trial include a 1-hour full-body workout (with his personal attention the entire time), Ryan also spent a full 2 hours discussing his workout program, nutrition, calculated % body fat and how his program would meet my fitness goals. This is way more than I expected for a free trial session! I signed up and am really looking forward to working with Ryan, who is very personable & motivating in a very encouraging way. Besides the workout, clients will email Ryan their food log & get feedback. The price cannot be beat for this type of dedicated personal trainer! I highly recommend Ryan's services.

Nick has been my personal trainer for several years. I'm 57, very busy, don't really like exercise and am apt to disappear on him from time to time. But I keep coming back because even though I don't like the thought of going to work out, actually working out with Nick is great. He knows his stuff, and he knows how to challenge me. Nick keeps switching things up - sometimes free weights, sometimes machines, sometimes TRX, sometimes kettle bells, etc. - so the workouts never become routine. And he's been great about accommodating my wacky schedule.

I came to June House for nutritional counseling because I struggled with making healthy food choices and desired to lose weight. I was eating food with lots of sugar and caffeine and felt sluggish and irritable. After working with June’s nutritional program, I noticed eating healthy could taste wonderful and my food cravings diminished and I had more energy. My favorite part of working with June was she understands how foods can heal and nourish the body. She shared many delicious recipes that made eating a pleasure. I have enjoyed trying many new foods that I would have never tasted before. I have kicked the diet soda habit, eat less processed foods and now eat more vegetables and a wider variety of foods. I have learned to give more thought to what I'm going to eat. I now can see how a balanced lifestyle/diet has a direct effect on my moods and energy level. I have also learned that any thing is possible and within my reach. Better health and quality of life. I have lost 11 pounds. I would recommend June to anyone looking for a healthy life. I have been weight training with Renee for a few months now and I am feeling stronger than ever! Renee is knowledgeable in the gym, coaches me on nutrition, and helps me to lead a healthy lifestyle that I can sustain. On top of being a skilled trainer, Renee is a great person who truly cares about the success of her clients. She will build a plan that suits your individual needs while pushing you to your limits and teaching you to believe in your abilities. She is flexible, friendly, and also gives great tips on healthy snack options! I would highly recommend her to anyone in the Greater Nashua area.

DMA is more than just a place to get into shape, it is a place to change your life. I started taking the DynaMMAX class to increase my fitness level, little did I know it would be a life changing experience with more than just physical results. I have gained a renewed sense of self confidence and empowerment and have made lasting friendships. The physical changes of increased strength and weight loss are just the beginning of the positive results you will gain from this class. I would come home from DynaMAXX class feeling so strong and self assured, raving to my husband about the positive environment and wonderful people. My husband was never really interested with the regular gyms because of the intimidating and lackluster environment. In fact I would have to twist his arm just to get him to go. Well it wasn't long after I began to go to DMA that he joined me and that unenthusiastic attitude was washed away by the welcoming, empowering and positive environment that exists at DMA. For the first time in his life he looks forward to working out and can't wait for the next class. The foundation for DMA's success is the atmosphere and attitude created by Coach Mike. I have been exposed to the fitness world for 20+ years and Coach Mike is by far the most knowledgeable and effective trainer I have ever met. The workouts are constantly changing, every workout is different and can be adapted to ALL fitness levels. Coach Mike helps you reach your full potential and is a positive motivator. The bottom line is he will make you a better person physically and mentally. As a matter of fact, my husband and I often say, "I can't imagine life without DMA!".

Been working with Andy for 15 years. He's a very knowledgeable trainer who takes a truly comprehensive view of your health and fitness needs and goals. It really is "designer" fitness in the sense that he genuinely tailors each workout for you. He's also a great, understanding guy, a good friend and a quality human being. And I mean every word of that. Personal training is not cheap but it is one of the best things you could ever spend money on to improve and maintain your long-term health and well-being. I say go for it.

We met at my place and worked out for about 45 minutes. She brought her own equipment and tools like music, resistance bands and knee pads for us. Before we began exercising we discussed what areas I want to work on and how I preferred to be trained. She would show me and then ask me to try the exercise as well. I asked that she work out along side me and that made me feel more comfortable. After one or two reps, she would critique my form and then we'd continue. She encouraged me to try these exercises on my own as well.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.
