Yes, I hired Gary thru Thumbtack. He quoted me a price, and came by first to look over the old water heater and the new one he would be installing. Was thorough in his review of the 30 year old water heater before concluding he would be able to do the work. Showed up the next day on time and completed the project in a timely fashion and left the laundry room clean and tidy where the water heater was located. I'm referring him to a friend on account of his wide knowledge of all kinds of repair work, as well as the excellent job he did at the house here. See you again, Gary, for other projects! And thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Anthony and his crew replaced our water heater with a tankless system. Anthony was very transparent about the cost of the work, he was easy to talk to and very timely in his communications with me. The work done by Anthony and his crew was great from the beginning to the end and I would be happy to contact him from our next plumbing projects. I would highly recommend him.

I requested a quote Friday night, received a response back within 5 minutes and Joel arrived the next morning on time. Very personable. Laid out the options in an organized manner. Installed the water heater the same day. Assuming no issues with the installation (time will tell), good experience overall. Now time to take a hot shower!

I replaced my original furnace, AC and water heater at my condo with Edward at A&M Services. From start to finish, it went exactly as you would want any transaction to go. Edward was responsive, prompt, and friendly. He kept me in the loop of the status of everything going on. He handled the job with great care and made sure I was pleased with everything. Overall, it was a job well done all around. I highly recommend A&M Services!

We had a new heating system put in as well as a tankless hot water heater. They also upgraded our electrical panel and put in an electric baseboard in our foyer. The guys were punctual, extremely professional and knowledgeable. I recently had an extremely experienced contactor come through for an unrelated project and he said the work that Three Brothers did was some of the best that he had seen in years. I am more than pleased with the outcome! Highly recommend!

They were great! When we discovered our water heater was leaking, we shut the water off and posted to Thumbtack immediately as we didn't have a go-to plumber. Colonial Mechanical were the first to respond that night and came out to take a look the next morning. They quickly confirmed the water heater couldn't be repaired and were able to replace it with a new one within a few hours. We're very satisfied with the quality and speed of their work!

I take reviews very seriously as it is very difficult to navigate among many so called 'specialists' and wasted time and/or money is not fun. (Been there, done that). Personal references and honest reviews are the only way to get a real professional, save money and we, consumers, need to help each other. So here is my input. Before Avea Group, I hired 4 (four!) plumbers, 2 from here, and they all were beyond bad. Never on time, poor quality, unskilled, left broken fixtures, leaking pipes, I had problems with plumbing inspector and wasted thousands of dollars... Now about AVEA Group. Through friend's referral, I found and used this plumber several times and now can attest fully to his skills and work quality. 1. Skills: crazy good. Unbelievable. Guy knows it all inside and out. Knows residential and commercial plumbing, heating, gas, carpentry, general contracting, masonry and most of the trades. His skills and advice saved me a lot of money. 2. Work ethics: don't get me started. I never saw anything like that. He drove 1.5 hour one way to my house for 3 weeks and showed up every day at 6am sharp. Left every day at 10pm, only because I insisted, he would stay longer. Somebody here said about him "Azat is a machine'. Totally correct, he is a machine, ethical, professional, determined, flawless machine. If he gives you a time frame, he will deliver no matter what. 3. Professionalism: A++++++. Squeaky clean, reliable, polite, well mannered, well educated, neat, you would never think he is a plumber. (No offence to others but those I had.....) 4. Quality of work: Unparalleled. I never thought that pipes and boilers can be esthetically beautiful. I have photos 'before and after' but cant upload them here for some reason. 5. Chances of passing inspection by town hall: I have properties in 3 towns and it was clear that those plumbing inspectors know Azat's quality well. Guy has an excellent reputation at town halls' building departments-very important! 6. Personal qualities and ease to deal with: he is a great guy! Honest, very decent, has great personality and a sense of humor. Such a pleasure to deal with! Summary: I personally will never use another plumber and I highly recommend Azat to anyone.

Mr. Rooter has done several jobs for us including replacing our hot water heater. They came quickly, worked efficiently and cleaned up any debris that resulted from the job they had completed. We had a 22 yr old water heater that we wanted to replace. Artie was 1 of 4 plumbers to respond, with a desire to see the project before giving us a quote. He assessed the project and gave us a detailed list of items that he would do to execute the work. He communicated the problems and solutions clearly and thoughtfully. And so, within 48 hours, we had a new water heater! We were happy to hire Artie and would recommend him to others. His pricing is reasonable for the expertise he offers.

I hired Ron to convert an old oil-based heating system to a tankless gas-based hot water/heating system. I just can say the job was done to perfection !!! He did the job in 2-1/2 days, including the removal of the old boiler, water tank and oil tanks. The piping routes were very well laid-out to minimize changes in the old system. He obtained all necessary permits from City Hall, got clearance from the city inspector, gave me a rebate form for the heater had a very reasonable price for the job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

  • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
  • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
  • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

How much do new water heaters cost?

The cost of a new water heater depends largely on the type and size of the heater. The average national cost for a new water heater installation including a 40- to 50-gallon tank is $350-$780. Most homes don’t need larger tanks, but they are available — for a price. The average difference between a 50-gallon tank and a 75-gallon tank (the next most common size) ranges from $400 to $600. Hundred-gallon tanks are also available, and they can cost double or triple the price of a 50-gallon tank from the same manufacturer. New water heaters tend to be far more energy-efficient, so they can cut energy costs; homeowners may also be eligible for a new water heater rebate from their local utility company.

Typically, tankless water heaters, which heat water only when you need it, cost more but can save about 25 percent of annual water heating costs, on average. They also lose only 5 percent of their energy compared with a tank unit’s 30 percent energy loss. Note, too, that a water heater with a tank has a life expectancy of 10 years, while tankless units generally last about twice as long.

The final expense to consider is a possible disposal fee to get rid of the old water heater; some companies include it in the price, while others charge an average of $35-$150.
