Metro Create captured my attention immediatley with their speed and professionalism once they reached out for a chance at the job, also the outline of pricing and how they intended to complete the job. The job was a simple logo, but the catch was I wanted it done within my preconceived thoughts and with my direction, the project was not ever cost prohibitive and MetroCreate Studios knew that but never once altered their original pricing, even though I had multiple holdups and changes due to corporate branding struggles with a product line I carry. I had the pleasure of working with Eric. Eric then took my ideas and my comparison photos and designed a logo on the first try without any other input from me other than the original discussion. There was no second edits or tweaks the first shot was what I was going for, that impressed me, greatly. Since the original interaction I have since met Eric in person and am going ahead with web designs, Facebook, business cards, and line cards. I have also contracted him to design a logo for a close friend of mine who is just starting a new business himself. His attention to detail, note taking and after conversation follow ups are some of the best I have ever had, within any field. Eric is a rarity, in a world of poor designers who take little interest in a project that may take longer than others, or who churn out sub par designs at a premium just to move on to the next project. If you are contemplating using MetroCreate and Eric and have read this entire review know this you will be contacted by numerous "designers" most with shut down websites, broken portfolio links, some with plagerized artwork who will tell you that the up front cost will vary due to numerous conditions. Eric gave an extremely fair price, worked hard to understand what I was looking for and turned out a logo I am proud to associate my company with. He will be doing everything for me for the foreseeable future due to the professional relationship we have going. You will not be disappointed in his work, attitude or sense of urgency. And if you ever wish to contact me to discuss Eric by all means, ask him for my number and I will gladly go over my experience.

I had the pleasure of being the Sr exec that approved Nellie's hire at Cybex. We had several graphic designers before that time but none that made the positive impact that Nellie did when she started. She is an extremely talented graphic designer who has an excellent grasp of the adobe suite of products and their application in the creation of a wide variety of marketing materials. Once Nellie started with Cybex, we were able to take much of the graphic design work done by outside agencies and bring it in-house. This improved not only the throughput but also the quality of the work at the time. Since then her capability has grown significantly and she has been involved in everything from creative development, photo shoots, and layout design all the way through final material production coordination. In addition, Nellie's pleasant disposition and can do attitude and ability to work as a team player impressed me from the beginning. Ray Giannelli SVP R&D

I knew very little about web design when I hired Compete Now and was a little apprehensive about taking on such a project. Once I started working with Donato I realized we were in good hands. I found it amazing how easy Donato and his team made it for us to create a new website. Not only was the process smooth and seamless, the design, usability and creativity by far exceeded our expectations. Donato and his team had great ideas on how to improve the look and functionality of the site. The website is visibly appealing, the pages load quickly and the site is easy to navigate. Their team was very professional and responsive; they delivered a great product on time and within budget. We would highly recommend the Compete Now design team for anyone looking to modify an existing site or create a new site. Thank you all for a job well done!!

We hired hink creations to design our website & all marketing materials for our newly started business. Not only was everything they created OUT OF THIS WORLD but the level of professionalism and sincere happiness to have myself and my partner as clients well exceeded our expectations. They took what we "thought" we wanted everything to look like, offered great suggestions and combined the two again delivering breathtaking results! I would highly recommend this business (as I already have) to EVERYONE in the market for their services!

I have had bad experience after bad experience when dealing with our website designers and hosts and online marketing companies since before Brookstone Park even existed. That has finally changed! I wanted to thank you and everyone who has worked with you on our Brookstone Park website. Your response has been and continues to be phenomenal and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that. It’s a first for me. Sincerely, Eric L. Brooks

After searching for a graphic designer that would provide services as if they were "in-house" we found Jennifer! Upon meeting Jen for the first thing, we knew she understood our branding and design needs. All projects she has delivered to-date are stunning and inline with our vision. After the first major assignment, I can literally send her text and say I need this formatted for a _____. and presto! I receive a product that exceeds my expectations. She has delivered our new logo, all materials for our 20 Anniversary to include our swag bag items and brochures, posters, and emails. She has performed our business plan, formal reports, and mailing with great ease and all items are cohesive. Basically, we are in love with Jen - she is responsive, organized and produce professional quality items.

I give Rhode Island Website Developers and their team a 5 star rating and thumbs up for a terrific job they did on my web project. Other companies I went to didn't grasp my concept and were unable to do what I thought was a fairly straight forward script code writing part of the development. I realize that developers have different programming languages that they write code in, and I was willing to allow the developers to make that choice on their own. Even at that level, other firms were unable to grasp the concept and make the online software do what is was conceived to do. However, when I went with Kevin Shick at Rhode Island Website Developers, he understood my company goals along with the concept. I knew he understood because he produced a project summary document that nailed it. Him and his team that were assigned to my project asked the right questions, and posted messages that were all in sync with the concept that I have been trying to explain to other development firms for over a year. Now I am using this product as a main part of my business model. It has increased productivity with the efficient tasks that it performs. I was also able to easily train my staff on the use of this new software platform, and it has become a daily part of our business operations. I cant say enough about how pleased I am with the results that Rhode Island Website Developers has produced for me.

I worked with LHoliner Designs to provide compelling graphics for the 15 wall screens at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute. Using this space for our signature, gala, fundraising event, we were challenged to make the most of this space and deliver our message with dramatic, multidimensional impact. Linda Holiner owned complete responsibility for the overall design, crafted each image, and worked closely with the Institute’s tech team to execute the display for each screen and wall space. All done on time for the event. The result -- a compelling telling of the many facets of the organization’s story and record for funds raised. Many gala participants expressed gaining a new understanding of the depth and breadth of the organization that surprised them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

  • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
  • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
  • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What do you look for in a web design company?

The web design company you choose must be able to interpret your company’s mission and identity and turn it into an appealing website that connects with potential customers. They must help you reach your target audience and meet your business goals. A web design agency should have on staff both talented web designers, with fresh ideas and extensive technical and creative skills, and a marketing team that knows how to drive traffic to your site, encourage visitor engagement, and convert visitors into customers. Web designers should be able to build in search optimization and integrate your site with a content management system and e-commerce tools. Look, too, for a website design company that understands responsive design and can optimize your website for mobile devices and desktop browsers. The right web design company understand current design and website trends, has experience building sites in a variety of industries (not just yours), and has an expansive portfolio of live websites. Finally, don’t simply hire the cheapest bidder — in web design, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

How do you hire a web designer?

You’ve determined that the best way to create a professional, modern, mobile-friendly new website is to hire a professional web designer to build it. To hire the best person for the job — and to get the web design that best fits your company’s identity — it’s important to ask a few key questions:

  • What’s the scope of the work? Will the website be basic with just a few pages about your company, its services, and contact information? Or will it also have an e-commerce section for online shopping, a blog, or content for visitors to download? Before you hire a web designer, make sure you have a thorough, specific list of the components you must have the designer include in the web design.
  • What do you want your website to look like? Consider websites that are similar to the one you’d like to build, ideally in the same industry or serving similar types of customers. Build a set of examples of types of pages, design aspects, and website features that you can hand off to the web designer — the person you hire should have experience creating websites with the features you want. If they don’t have the right skill set, they’re not the right pro for you.
  • What’s the web designer’s start-to-finish process? What will the final deliverable be? Before you hire someone, make sure their availability works with your timeline and that their process meets your expectations. Most important is finding a web designer who will work collaboratively with you to create a successful online presence.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
