Introduction: Specializing in jazz, improvisation, theory, harmony, rhythms, phrasing, ear training and more. All levels and ages are welcome! Lessons in New York and on Skype! (worldwide) Offering a free consultation meeting in person or on Skype! -- Assaf Kehati is a professional musician and educator (Master of Music, Jazz performance). He has been performing worldwide and teaching for more than 20 years. For example played at the Blue Note, NYC, Atlanta Jazz Festival, and worked with Billy Hart (drummer for Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, Stan Getz, Herbie Hancock) -- Every student receives an individualized program of learning, tailored to his or her level and specific musical interests. I teach beginners to advanced students mostly in Jazz, but also teaches Blues, Rock, Folk, and more. Lessons include: * Playing your favorite songs * Playing songs and solos by ear * Playing chords * Music theory * Learning to improvise * Fingerpicking * Writing your own songs/ composing * Strumming patterns * Analyzing chord progressions * Reading music * Understanding rhythms and polyrhythms * Enhancing your technique * How to play with a band * Playing lead guitar solos * Build your own chord voicing * How to play chromatically * Creating exotic scales * Develop a unique sound * How to practice counterpoint *And MUCH more! Some testimonials: * I've seen a HUGE difference. The sky's the limit with Assaf. I'd recommend him to anyone. - Matt S. *Very personable, fun, knowledgeable, and challenging. - Daniel A. *He is patient and open-minded and extremely skilled. - Christian H. -- Read a full testimonial: "Assaf is the real deal. He's everything you'd want in a guitar teacher. He's passionate, knowledgeable, flexible and highly skilled. Most importantly, he makes learning fun and exciting. I've had a couple of teachers over the years and most of them either don't know what direction to take you or simply take you in their own direction and stifle your creativity in the process. Assaf gives you room to breathe, allowing you to discover how to play the guitar on your own and develop your own style while giving you all the proper guidance in the process. He won't just teach you how to play the guitar. He'll make you think, learn and discover everything about the guitar. Best part about my progress, thus far? I've only been taking classes for a month. Already, I've seen a HUGE difference. The sky's the limit with Assaf. I'd recommend him to anyone." - Matt S.

Assaf rocks! I've been taking lessons with him for just about two and a half years now. We've been primarily focusing on jazz, a demanding and unique genre of music that can be approached in many ways, and is, in some ways, stigmatized due to the sport-like approach some people take with it. Assaf's take on it manages to instill discipline in the student while keeping the experience strictly musical. Assaf also has insight to offer as a musician in living in the heart of the jazz scene, New York City. He has helped me become proficient in the genre, and continues to give me guidance, reminding me that I still have much to learn. Assaf is also very flexible when it comes to scheduling (and especially rescheduling). On top of being a good and flexible teacher, he's also a really nice and cool guy, super easy to get along with.

I have studied guitar for many years with many different teachers. Assaf is one of the best. He is gifted teacher and musician who is truly committed to helping you become the player you want to be. His lessons are well organized and he has a gift for delivering a well thought out plan for growth. His homework assignments are very clear and if you are willing to do the work your playing will improve almost immediately. A great teacher is essential and in any endeavor. I feel very lucky to have found someone who can help me to achieve my dream of becoming a professional guitarist. I highly recommend him to both beginners and advanced students. You won't be disappointed!

I've been taking lessons with Assaf for a few years now. I had played when I was younger. Now he is turning me into a real jazz musician. He is open minded and let's you develop your own style. Has great ideas about how to practice and get the most out of practice time.

I've been taking lessons from Assaf for almost a year now, and my guitar playing and knowledge of music theory have both developed much faster than I had envisioned they would. Assaf brings much more to the table than just being a well-knowledged jazz guitar virtuoso, in that he is very patient, is able to explain complex ideas well, and, most importantly, is able to make lessons and practice both highly productive and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

You get exactly what you pay for. Actually let me rephrase, you get much more than what you pay for my lessons. You get a nice teacher, vert patience, open to work differently with every student. A teacher that inspires and motivate his students. A teacher with tons of experience with teaching and performing that will lead you the right and fastest steps to become amazing at playing guitar. A teacher that will save your time and show you exactly what to practice, when, and for how long. Other than that, please read about the level of my expertise in my Skype promotional video here, my website, and even Wikipedia! You get a teacher with Masters in Music, that performed worldwide, recorded three albums, been on TV and radio and more. An outstanding teacher is needed for all levels - not only advanced students. As a beginner, with the right teacher you can get to places that you've never dreamed of and save a ton of time on the way. Would you rather pay $40 per week for a whole year and make a mediocre progress with potentiality some mistakes and wrong things you've learned along the way, or pay $90 or even $120 per lesson and get where you want in half of the time? and be more knowledgeable, motivated and confident than anybody else? Only you can answer this question.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have Masters in Music and I am also an active musician in New York and worldwide, leading my own band in venues such as the Blue Note New York, Atlanta Jazz Festival, DC Jazz Festival, and venues in other countries: Canada, South America, Europe and more. I have many students on Skype worldwide and I specialize in jazz Skype lessons for beginners to advanced and worked with many countries and states such as: LA, Boston, Texas, Seattle, New York, Toronto, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, and more and more :) as well as students coming to my studio in Brooklyn.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Years ago I started working with a new student on all the stuff he needs in order to get into Berklee College of Music . We worked on that very hard and covered many different aspects of what's needed both on the music side and on how to act in the audition itself. A few months ago he had his audition and he got accepted! It's not the first time I'm successfully preparing a student for an audition at a music college, but every time I do it's such a great satisfaction!
