I've been in the wedding and social business for a long time, I met Jennifer a few years back and have referred business to her and collaborated with her at bridal events and have always been impressed with her floral designs and her positive and welcoming attitude. When it came time to select a florist for my own daughter's wedding, I didn't hesitate in calling her. My daughter's ceremony was a private family event in VT and the week following was a large reception brunch in MA. Though we were not initially doing flowers for the VT event, Jennifer offered and literally the day before my daughter decided yes in fact she wanted a bridal bouquet and boutonniere for her groom and I picked it up the morning we were driving to VT. Jennifer worked from a photo and designed a stunning bouquet and my daughter was thrilled, and with her instruction, I kept it looking lovely for the ceremony the next day. The following week, she amazed us again with exactly matching what my daughter envisioned in her mind, soft greens, succulents and whites nestled around large cylinders with white stairway pillars. The place was gorgeous! She was relaxed, composed and a pleasure to work with!

John was a delight to work with! I hosted a Bridal Shower Brunch for my daughter with 45 guests, and the food received rave reviews. There was more than enough for everyone and just enough leftovers for me and a few friends to enjoy later. John's attention to detail and his service is excellent. I received five quotes from Thumbtack for caterers and J & L had the best selection, best pricing and best professional and friendly approach.

Tasha was one of the bridal makeup artists that my sister had a trial with. My sister loved the hair and the way Tasha plumped up her lips. Tasha drove to my sister, brought in all the equipment and even stayed late to ensure that we had an opportunity to see the finished product. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. We ended up going with someone who had more experience with Indian skin and hair for the wedding. However, Tasha's work quality in the trial was really good and I just had to leave this review!

Yvonne Caole (Executive Planner at Unique Melody Events & Design) was the wedding consultant/planner for our daughter’s wedding. I can’t say enough about Yvonne’s expertise in the wedding planning field. She went above and beyond in every way possible to make our wedding day just what we dreamed of. She is absolutely AMAZING: professional, helpful, knowledgeable, flexible and very accessible. The entire planning process was as smooth as possible from the day we met Yvonne to the wedding day. She quickly and efficiently handled every detail throughout the year of planning our wedding. She was very knowledgeable in all aspects of the planning process. She returned our phone calls and emails very promptly. She made the day of our wedding run smoothly, and as a result, we were able to enjoy every single moment of our daughter’s beautiful wedding day. Yvonne Caole was priceless!

I own two high end consignment shops. Our challenges, as most retail shops, is constantly getting in new merchandise & getting it out while at the same time making it look beautiful and 'Boutique' like. We are also small in square footage - so another challenge - is putting merchandise out again making it work, removing the clutter, turning over product. That's where Cathy walks in and transforms the store. As far as being creative; she amazes me with her ideas/visions & how well she actually brings them to life. As well as, how quickly she can do a 'touch up' and make the store look so new and refreshed! In my shops it is vital to make our merchandise look as beautiful and as high end as it is. & she comes through time and time again. After, a visit to the shop - it looks better 100% but sales both on-line and in-store are increased. Customers love it and look forward to our changes & comment positively each time. She has made an impact on my store both aesthetically pleasing as well as financially (sales). A huge win for us & our customers/consignors. I highly, highly recommend her, but hate to share her! You will be more than happy with the entire experience. ♥️ Pictures don't do her work justice.

Working with Pearl and team was amazing. From the first meeting with her I knew she was the perfect partner. And that she was. She was a great partner throughout the planning process helping to make sure every part of the day was thought through and would allow for seamless execution on the day of. I was able to trust her and knew that my vision for the day would be brought to life, allowing me to not have to worry or stress leading up to the wedding. The event was perfect and I cannot thank the team for making it the best day ever! I hope to work with Pearl again.

Kelly was incredible to work with!!! When we first found her on thumbtack, we were just looking for a day of coordinator. Kelly was definitely that, and so much more. As our day came closer and we realized more and more how much we needed help, Kelly stepped up to the plate and provided styling and decorating services as well. She provided the decorations and lighting for a 1500 sq. ft. room, along with day of coordination, for an extremely reasonable price. Moreover, as my new wife and I were trying to figure out what we wanted, we changed our minds over and over. We talked through pricing extensively, and at each step of the process Kelly met us with kindness and professionalism. We trusted her style completely! Our event looked beautiful, we were able to have a ceremony that ran extremely smoothly, and had absolutely nothing to worry about. Not only that, but even when bridal party members had some big ideas, Kelly was our biggest advocate and never batted an eye lash. She was confident and calm at the same time, which is exactly what we needed. Overall, I would hire Kelly again in a heartbeat. She was literally the best. Haven't gotten pics from our photographer yet, but will post them here once I do so you all can see how amazing she is!! Thank you, Kelly!!!!! xoxoxoxoxox D + L

To whom this may concern, I recently had the pleasure of having the assistance of "Julia's Having A Party" plan a special event for an member of my family. As we all know there are many different parts that come along with planning an event. "Julia's Having A party" made every aspect of planning simple and very easy. The staff was wonderfully accommodating, the recommendations of decorations could not have been more appropriate. Apart from that, The food was delicious. We had a variety of choices to pick from. All of which had the presentation of a fine dining Resturant. Lastly, As this event was in my home, I was skeptical of the idea of a "party planner" but pleasantly surprised. I got to spend time enjoying my guest worry free. Over all "Julia's Having A party" created not just a wonderful evening but a memorable experience.

Meghan was absolutely fantastic and went beyond my expectations. As a busy professional traveling most weeks, I did not have the time to organize my sisters bridal shower, and pull it off in the way I wanted. Meghan listened to my ideas and created an outline of what was needed. She also provide options for us to create things on our own which saved some money. I think the expectation is normally that planners will do what they can to make the most $$, but she was certainly sensitive to the budget and did an incredible job. I will absolutely be using Meghan for future events. She made it so easy!

I am in the beginning stages of my event planning career and can offer advice to those who don't wish to spend a lot on a planner but could benefit from learning the basics of planning, budgeting and coordinating a fabulous event!

    About

I am the on-call manager who can help you plan an event, create and manage a project or develop a plan for you. My schedule is flexible. My experience includes work in the non-profit sector, academia, and private business. I enjoy helping others to reach their goals. Some examples of my experiences are the following: - Researched venues for an educational workshop and made all event-related arrangements including site selection, catering, A/V, room set-up, and coordination with program contact. - Managed an events office in Ivy League University and was responsible for reserving events space and supporting on-campus events. - Coordinated hundreds of events at a graduate university, working with the event planners (clients), and supporting multiple educational conferences, student events, and alumni events. I have managed events from 15 to over 5,000 people. - Documented a process for a graduate-level course project to be followed annually, streamlined, and gathered input from multiple stakeholders. Reached out to another department to leverage resources for my client. - I helped develop a strategic plan that resulted in a $1 million donor pledge. - Condensed and catalogued information for a graduate-level class, eliminating redundancies, inconsistencies, and time wasted by the client looking for or reproducing materials. - Created a database in Excel (per client's preference), collecting data from approximately 15 sources together for easy reference and continued maintenance.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a wedding event coordinator do?

Pulling off a large, complex wedding or an elegant, small affair requires juggling myriad details, including the officiant, food, drink, wedding cake, entertainment, transportation, rehearsal dinner, photography, equipment rentals, venue reservations and more. A wedding event coordinator can help you keep track of these details, overseeing the planning process and managing everything on the day of your wedding. Each wedding coordinator (and wedding) is different, but in general you can expect an event coordinator to:

    • Help you devise a realistic wedding budget and hold your vendors to it.
    • Map out a master plan that includes all of the details including ceremony music, favors, the guest book and more.
    • Suggest ceremony and reception locations that fit your wedding size, budget and vision.
    • Suggest florists, photographers, bands, caterers and other vendors that fit your budget.
    • Negotiate vendor contracts for the best deals.
    • Create a timeline for the day of the wedding that includes each vendor and member of your wedding party.
    • Mail invitations and track RSVPs.
    • Answer questions about wedding etiquette and current wedding trends.
    • Manage the wedding day from supervising vendors and setup to handling last-minute emergencies.

    What is a wedding planner?

A wedding planner is a professional service provider whose job it is to organize and execute all the details of a couple’s wedding. A wedding planner can be contracted at any stage in the wedding planning process to help to any degree the couple is willing to pay for. Wedding planning is similar to event planning in that a planning team handles the coordination of multiple wedding elements including catering, venue, guests, entertainment, decor, transportation and more. Anyone who has ever been involved in a wedding can confirm that wedding planning is hard work. Experience brings wisdom when it comes to avoiding or resolving day-of challenges. There is no legal regulatory body that oversees or certifies wedding planning as an industry. Anyone who chooses can call themselves a wedding planner. When looking for a wedding planner, be sure to read reviews, and make smart hiring decisions by asking about licenses and insurance.

Do I need a wedding day coordinator?

Even if you’ve handled every detail of planning your wedding, you might appreciate having a day-of wedding coordinator in your corner. Usually, the coordinator meets with you a few weeks before your wedding to put together a detailed timeline of everything that needs to happen on your wedding day. Then, on the big day, the coordinator makes sure everything goes according to plan — and handles any emergencies that pop up, such as party crashers, missing tuxedos, late vendors, disappearing bridal party members and more. Most wedding coordinators also handle:

    • Distributing the wedding day timeline to all of your vendors.
    • Coordinating all of your vendors, including the photographer, florist and baker.
    • Conducting the wedding rehearsal.
    • Helping the bride and her wedding party get dressed and take photos.
    • Checking floor plans, lighting levels, cake placement, menus, favors and more.
    • Collecting the wedding gifts and keeping personal items safe and accounted for.

Even if you don’t think you need a wedding coordinator, check with your venue. Some require that couples hire a day-of wedding coordinator for the day of the event.

How much does it cost for a wedding planner?

Wedding planning is a full-time job — unless you hire a professional to handle the hard work for you. The cost for a wedding planner will depend on the level of service you desire. The least expensive wedding planner option is day-of coordination, then partial service, then full-service.

The national average cost for wedding planning is between $990 and $1,300. Costs are greatly affected by region, with rural or smaller-town wedding planners often far more affordable than planners in higher-cost cities. Here are some examples of the various levels of wedding planning and their potential average costs:

    • Day-of-wedding coordination: $800-$1,700. Day-of services can include the planner finalizing all details, creating a timeline, confirming vendors and overseeing all setup, day-of activities, and cleanup. The couple does all the front-end planning and contracts all the vendors. Time commitment could be about 15-25 hours, depending on pricing.
    • Partial service: $1,500-$3,800. Here the planner works with the couple from the beginning, helping contract vendors, creating a timeline, and overseeing all details of day-of execution. Time commitment could be about 30-60 hours, depending on package and pricing.
    • Full service: $3,500-$8,000 or more. Here the professional handles all wedding and planning details including working on design, securing rentals, getting the venue and vendors, and handling complete execution of the event. Time commitment could be 50-150 hours or more, depending on package and pricing.
    • Consulting: $50-$150 per hour for design, vendor, reception and other wedding planning consultation.

How much do day-of wedding coordinators cost?

A day-of wedding coordinator makes sure that every detail of your wedding day goes off without a hitch, and deals quickly and quietly with any last-minute emergencies. For many brides, the day-of wedding coordinator is their best investment! The average national cost for a wedding coordinator is $800 to $1,000. Although full-service wedding coordinators often charge a percentage of the total wedding budget, most day-of coordinators charge a flat fee plus an additional hourly fee if the day runs long. For example, a 15-hour day-of coordination costs an average of $600, plus an additional $45 per hour if the coordinator works more than the planned 15 hours. Another option is to hire a coordinator to manage the last-minute details leading up to the event; for example, 25 hours of month-of coordination costs an average of $1,200. Several factors affect the cost of day-of coordination, including the region, the planner’s experience, and the specifics of the wedding. If the ceremony and reception are in two different locations, expect to pay more than if they’re in the same place. Also, extra details, such as managing food trucks or setting up snacks in addition to the meal, will increase the cost.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
