Introduction: I take the time to fully assess my client's needs and craft treatment plans and training schedules that involve all family members. Dog training requires consistency. Consistency comes when everyone in the house is on the same page of communication and participates. Which is why I include all family members in the training process, regardless of age. With children at home I have a knack for teaching the whole family how to not just train a dog but to communicate with them. The dog already knows how to sit as is evident when they are outside playing and wander over to the shade to sit down. It is just a matter of teaching them our language. I am a dog lover first, and a dog trainer second. I know from first-hand experience the difference dog training makes in the relationship between a dog and their guardian. Without professional training it can sometimes be a frustrating relationship that results in re-homing of the dog or worse, euthanasia. Having worked in the Animal Rescue field, I find it extremely rewarding to help transform the canine-human relationship into one that does not result in the re-homing or euthanasia of the canine.

Brenda helped my boyfriend and I work with Zoe , our Pomeranian mix) on how to sit ,taught us an emergency recall , worked on "down" , "leave it", and also for Zoe to be more comfortable walking on her leash which was an issue we were having. Brenda did an amazing job with Zoe , she really knew what she was doing and knew the best way for our puppy to learn ! Zoe picked up on everything really quickly! Brenda also worked with my boyfriend and I so that WE knew how to help and teach Zoe. Brenda also helped Zoe with her potty training as she was only 3 months when we started training. She's doing really well with it and one of the great things about working with Brenda is she travels to YOU! It's a great convenience to be able to train your dog in THEIR home versus bringing them somewhere to be trained. Your dog learns in their environment and aren't distracted by other dogs. She shows you the best way to set up for potty training so your dog learns quickly to go outside instead of the house. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone , she's a true animal lover and works with your dog until they get it , she went above and beyond , was always on time, and was a pleasure to work with!

We have a nine month old puppy who has an incredible amount of energy and strength. We took her to Dakin for classes and they helped a bit. However, she was almost impossible to walk and her manners were poor. Brenda helped us to change her behavior. Brenda is incredibly patient and calm with both our dog and us. She has helped us to understand how to communicate effectively with our dog. We highly recommend her.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, I regularly attend seminars, conferences and participate in education programs offered by various organizations and keep up to date with the latest research and emergence of the latest techniques and tools in the industry.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
For as long as I can remember my life has been surrounded by dogs. My father and grandfather had hounds and I would always sneak up to bring them extra treats and teach them to sit or shake. Even at such a young age I felt there was no need to use force and cringed at many of the techniques the adults used back then. As I got older I was determined to prove I could have a well behaved dog without being mean or forceful. I was successful in my efforts of raising and training Sarge.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Anyone can say theyre a dog trainer; its an unregulated industry. Make sure the trainer you choose is certified through a training school, such as Karen Pryor Academy or Animal Behavior College. Ask if the person has experience outside of training schools, such as with animal shelters or rescues, which represents a different and useful skill set.
