Requested gutter cleaning and at the last minute asked about cleaning the roof. He did both without hesitation. Great job!

I am very pleased with the work done by Gutter Masters of New England at my home. From the moment of the initial estimate being prepared and explained to me, Jay answered any and all of my questions and when I explained certain issues I had with the way water came down the valley of my roof during heavy rain, he was able to address how he would redirect the water flow. Prior to starting the job, he contacted me periodically to let me know where he was in his work schedule so that I was constantly aware of a possible start date for my house. Weather obviously impacts this kind of a work schedule; but, Jay was able to predict quite accurately when he would be able to start the job. He arrived on time to start the job; very focused and intent on making it look right. At its completion, Jay made certain that everything was picked up and no debris was left in the yard at all. The new gutters, down spouts and guards look wonderful and give my home a complete look. I would highly recommend this small business to any of my friends and colleagues.

We had a fantastic experience and were very happpy that we decided to go with Weathertite Roofing. They powerwashed our roof, cleared the gutters and secured them for winter. The price was competitive and they even came a day early because of the weather. Would definitely recommend!

We are very happy that we have hired H&R Roofing to install a roof and gutters for our home. We have a very good experience working with Ray from H&R Roofing. In our opinion, he is the best and brightest in his field. He explained to us about roofing in detail when he met us for the first time. Also, He answered all our follow-up queries even when he was on vacation. His crew was very knowledgeable and professional as well. In a day they replaced and installed the new roof with skylight. Another day they installed gutters. For sure we will recommend Ray and H&R Roofing for roof and gutters. Thank you, Ray and Team.

Justin installed a new roof on my house. He and his crew stripped two existing layers of shingles, installed a new asphalt shingle roof, installed a new ridge vent and soffit vents. The roof looks great and no more leaks! Justin was very professional and knowledgeable. He answered any questions I had. I would recommend Justin to anybody looking for roofing or exterior renovations!

We worked with Steve and Joe for an asphalt roof, soffit ventilation, and a roof repair on a sun room from a fallen tree. Steve was great to work with and he was the most communicative of the 10 or so roofing estimates we inquired about. I asked many technical questions as I am an engineer and very detail oriented by nature. They did everything they said they would do and did a quality job. Steve stuck out from the beginning as he called our town building department to find our local codes to find out what was legal as other conractrors were saying that you could put a metal roof over 2 layers of asphalt roof. The roof and sunroom repair was done over 2 days and they cleaned up the yard pretty well. Steve was always easy to get a hold of and really had awesome customer service. They are not the cheapest gig in town but you can trust them and they do quality work. I would hire again. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about my experience

As a frequent Thumbtack user, I've had a lot of contractors work on my house including other painters. Cleynira Construction and the owner Cody are by far the best we've ever used. They painted the outside of our 1950 colonial and it looks fantastic!! Cody also used his construction skills to remedy some tricky wood rot in some decorative detailing areas near that I thought would be very difficult to fix. If you want superior quality work at a very competitive price, I highly recommend these guys. I'm extremely happy with their work and I will rehire them at every opportunity.

I sent in my request at midnight and the next day in the morning they were here and said they could actually do three out of three projects where I thought they only could do two out of three projects. They were so nice and did great work very polite and very reasonable Replace basement windows fixed lag bolts under the deck and did some roofing work. I'm selling the house and the new buyer wanted all of this done and for years I've been trying to find someone just to do the basement windows Good people. Good job. Good price. And right on time. What more could you ask for?

Bobby did an excellent job today repairing an area on my roof that had water damage. He was punctual, professional and provided reasonable estimates. He was very thorough in his explanation of the project. In turn he educated me in roofing! Would hire again and recommend him.

I had Steven inspect my roof and attic after a windstorm event. Steve very honestly told us the roof was in good shape and did not need any repair. He actually didn’t even charge for his visit and even wrote a report and shared pictures of his visit. I insisted myself to pay $200 for his labor and time. Great example of the type of contractor you all hope to hire. I will definitely call him for my next roofing/water damage job. Very nice guy.

Jeff's team did our house's roof in one day. The materials and dumpster were dropped off on Friday evening and they began Saturday. They use tarps and drop clothes to cover everything and completed the job by 3pm that day. The installation looks incredible - he matched all the vinyl parts to our trim and his group cleaned up very well before they left. We had originally used Thumbtack to get competitive bids, and Jeff was not only the best value, he continued to communicate with us while we waited for temperatures to rise and the weather to clear. We ended up having a team of 8 work on the roof for our house, and they were finished in plenty of time to complete the work before it rained the next day. Jeff was onsite the entire time. A great crew and a great result. They did exactly what they said, and for exactly the price they quoted.

My experience with Henderson Construction could not have been better. It's nice to find a contractor that communicates and does what he says he's going to do, when he says he'll do it! His quote was very competitive and the quality of the work was top notch. I would highly recommend Henderson construction to anybody who needs a new roof or any other major construction needs.

Contracted with D3 Builders for a new roof after seeing the renovation work including roofing at a relatives home. The overall expectation of work start and completion was on target. The D3 crew were thorough from work prep including protecting the property with large tarps surrounding the base of the house and landscape to thorough clean-up. Shortly after the new roof was completed, we had a Solar company put up solar panels. When asked for their perspective as to the condition/workmanship of the new roof when installing the panel, the response was the roofers did a great job... Certainly would recommend D3 for roofing!

I hired Mr Fonseca to roof my elderly mothers roof and if i could add an extra star to the rating i would. I am also a licensed contractor but to old to get on roofs and i have seen too meany fly by night contractors only interested in how fast and how much they can make, and care to little about honesty and quality. He did what he said he was going to do, for the price he said he would do it for and in the time he said he would do it. That's the quality part of his business. The honesty part is when my mom asked him to do some extra projects around the house and he did it after hours with one of his men for a price that was as if it was his own mother. When you consider the helpers wage, and the extra dumpster weight that is all he charged. I believe my mom gave him more than he asked for and he deserved it. Yes i would hire him again and recommend him also.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
