Alfredo was easy to communicate with throughout the whole process. He showed up on time and ready to install my bathroom exhaust fan. He was able to properly vent it through the roof and also solved the issue with hooking up two separate switches for the fan and light. I would recommend and look to Alfredo for future work.

Steve has been helping us with some long-needed home repair work. He has re-screened our porch, replaced our corner boards on the home, cleaned out our gutters (up three stories in the back, and then hopped across the roof!!!), replaced the downspouts, replaced some clapboards, and is currently replacing sills and window trim on all of our windows. His work has been outstanding, and he is the nicest gentleman, always polite, knowledgable, and helpful with providing cost-saving pointers. I have already been recommending him to others, and am looking forward to having him back to do some interior work for us in the Fall.

Jay was awesome in every possible way! He did a small gutter install for a valley roof issue and matched the gutter color exactly to the house color and even installed aluminum mesh guards free of charge. I plan on hiring him in the spring to replace all the gutters on two homes I own. If you need gutters (repair or install), he is the BEST - so definitely hire him or you may live with regrets...Rob A

Fantastic job by OSA Home Improvement. Elsayed began work immediately and stayed late to finish the job the same day. I had a variety of tasks that another plumber did poorly, from reinstalling several shower fixtures to fixing a drain vent to clearing out a slow water faucet. Elsayed also installed some dimmer switches for me at a reasonable price. He is friendly and polite and works very hard to solve your problem for you. I look forward to working with him again!

Crew arrived on time at 7:15 AM and completed job including clean up the same day at 7:00 PM for my 61 ft x 26 ft raised ranch with an attached 12 ft x 12 ft enclosed sun porch and my shed. They covered the front and back of the house with tarps to protect my siding and windows while the old roof was stripped. They installed two overlapped layers of ice and watershied front and back with a layer in valleys. Installed upgraded GAF's Deck Armor on the rest of the roof. Re-leaded the chimney and installed GAF ridge cap, starter shingles and Cobra roof vent. As a GAF Certified installer they will enroll me in the GAF Weather Stopper System Plus Warranty. The contract was well written and clear. In short they were very professional and experienced. I believe they installed the roof properly and it will last a long time. Their Representative Ray Thibault was very patient and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions and was great to deal with. Based on my experience I believed I received a good roofing job at a fair price.

DeCarney roofing did an amazing job. After the crazy nor'easter laste weekend, I had some damaged shingles. They managed to squeeze me in after a previous client, and fixed my damaged roof right away for a very reasonable price. On top of that, Mario was very friendly and pointed out several things about roofing as he was making repairs. In hindsight, he probably should have charged me for the lesson as well as the roof repair. My roof is older, and when I replace it Decarney Roofing will be my first choice for the company to do the work.

We hired Sean to clean our gutters last year and was so happy with his work we hired him again this year. He was quick to respond and to schedule a time to complete the job. We won't hesitate to give Sean a call when this work needs to be repeated next season and for any other repairs to our roof and gutters that we may need in the future.

Ernie was quick to respond and was on time the next day as I had a small leak in my roof but wanted it taken care of promptly. He explained the problem, took pictures , and provided a quote and explanation of what he would do. He also provided a warranty for his work of 6 months and an electronic invoice for me to share with the other owners in my condo. I would use him again.

I was in need of timely roof and gutter work before upcoming rain storms. LC Construction responded to my work project request and were at my house within a couple hours. They did great work in patching up a vent pipe on our roof and adding a gutter to our house. We are happy with the work and would reach out to LC Construction in the future for other work.

These guys are great. I had a skylight that was leaking. Eric reached out to me about the job and came over the same day to take a look at it. That right there impressed me since it was extremely difficult to find anyone that would come over and take a look at it. He explained to me the steps he would do to fix the skylight on the roof (new flashing, shingles, caulking, etc.) He sent me a a reasonable estimate the same day, and came out less than a week later to complete the job on my skylight. When he was done he sent me pictures of the work that was completed along the way. Eric was very responsive to any questions I had and he informed me if anything else came up he would come right back out. He is a true professional. I would highly recommend them

Brett McNamara was a true professional, meeting every need we had in a timely manner. We had a deadline to meet, and he finished several jobs on time and within budget, doing superb work. We are going to hire him to maintain our properties as the needs arise. Not only did he install gutters 3 stories high, he roofed the porch, installed vents, and completed several interior jobs to our satisfaction. He was always punctual and honest, a man you can trust to do the job properly.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
