I am an unschooled drummer who has been playing for over 50 years. I recently decided I wanted to expand my playing by taking some drum lessons and began working with James. I doubt there are many drum teachers who I could successfully work with but James brings some very special qualities to his teaching that make him perfect for me. In addition to being an extremely skilled drummer, he really seems to understand that each student is unique and that his teaching needs to be suited to that student. He is patient, he is very supportive, and he seems to have an intuitive sense of how to approach people as he works with them. In addition to all that he's a really nice guy.

I began my journey at the age of 40! Honestly, I was nervous about finding a teacher, after all I'm not a kid, and you don't see many women playing drums. Fortunately, when I met James he put me at ease right away. At this point I'm still a student, but james has given me the confidence to where I sit in at open jams, and even have a paying gig! Playing drums is my passion and my therapy. I highly recommend James Thomas, he is inspiring!

James Thomas is an amazing drummer and teacher. You can see that he loves what he does and he makes learning fun. The past three years as his student have been fantastic and I've learned so much. He is able to help me with high school percussion and ensemble pieces along with drumming. If it weren't for James, I would have stopped playing a long time ago. I owe James so much and he has turned me into a great drummer. Thank you James for all that you do. It is an honor and a pleasure to learn from one of the best!
