Dog walking service has been a great experience! Meeting with the owner was professional and thorough. He explained everything and answered all my questions. My dog walker sends a text and a photo to me everyday giving a report about her time with my puppy. That is such a wonderful part of the experience. I look forward to it everyday! I regret that I need to leave my puppy alone while I am at work and the report everyday puts my mind at ease. Also, a written note is left everyday as well. These little touches make this a very special and personal service. I highly recommend Blackstone Valley Dog Walking and Pet Sitting. They go above and beyond caring for pets as if they were there own.

We needed obedience training for our 1 and 1/2 year old lab. She is very energetic and we had little to no control over her before Kristin started working with her. Kristin's love for animals was obvious from the start. She works not only with the animals, but with the owners as well. It can be very frustrating when you love your pet, but don't know how to communicate with them. Kristin changed all that, everything from walking her without her trying to rip my arm off, to keeping her off the counters, to unnecessary barking. Roxy's (our lab ) behavior has gotten so much better thanks to Kristin. I learned way more about dogs than I thought I would. It was so amazing to see the progress Roxy made each week.Kristin is very passionate about animals and is a pleasure to work with.

Joan was very responsive and professional. She provided excellent references. She had no problem medicating one of my cats. The 2 cats looked great upon our return, as did our house. Not the cheapest cat sitting service, but very professional and I had peace of mind.

MacKenzie did a wonderful job. Not only did she care for our cats, but she left everything neat and clean and brought in our mail and packages. She also gave me text updates on how the cats were doing. I’ll definitely be using MacKenzie for all our pet sitting needs.

I always ask Krystal to watch my dogs and cats when my husband and I are out of town. She's the best ever! My dogs are so attached to her that when they hear her car coming they start going ballistic! She's always great with them, really kind and affectionate while being firm and authoritative. Ideal balance, I'd recommend her to anyone needing pet care services!!

Kim took care of our elderly dog, until just days before Pebbles passed away. We never worried about anything when Kim was around. She texted updates each day, and would call us if she felt something needed to be discussed further. Kim was a godsend. Anyone would be luck to have her take care of their pet!

I hired Wildflower Pet Care to walk my dog a couple times a week when I am at work. My dog has anxiety issues and can be difficult around new people. But it didn’t take long before she warmed up to both Jade and Lisa and is happily going on walks and adventures with them. They update me after each walk with photos and it looks like my dog is smiling in all of them! They are responsive to any of my questions and always let me know the details of the time the spend with my dog. I would definitely recommend this business and I know when my dog is in their care she is both in good hands and having fun!

Karen is wonderful with my dog! Usually after the initial meet & greet I prefer to be at the first few visits until I know my dog and the pet sitter are comfortable with each other. But my dog took yo Karen immediately and I was able to skip that step very comfortably. My dog fell in love with her instantly, and he is usually a very cautious dog. And as dog lovers know, we can trust their instincts. Karen has been so flexible and goes above & beyond. I'm so grateful I found her!

The founder of Take the Lead, Nancy Pickwick, had a first-hand experience on how hard it can be to find good pet care especially dog care which she could consistently trust and depend on during her years in the business world. Inflexible overnight booking and rigid hours left her frustrated. Nancy determined that there was a call for passionate, honest and reliable pet care. Available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and all holidays. Take the Lead was born, a South Shore pet care that would meet the needs of clients who didn’t keep the regular nine-to-five routine. Today, a high percentage of her team’s clients are referrals and repeat customers, proof to the quality of care given to every pet. Experience and Affiliations Nancy’s own animal training includes obedience training in levels 1-3. She is a volunteer at the Scituate Animal Shelter as a foster coordinator, provides caring for foster animals in her home and as a dog walker. Nancy is also the proud owner of an Australian Shepherd and four cats. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

        • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
        • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
          • 45-minute visit: $28.
          • 60-minute visit: $32.
        • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
        • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
          • 12 hours: $100.
          • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
