We feel so very lucky to have Kris's talents available to us. Where else could you find someone who has toured and played with well-known drummers and bands so close to home? Our son has taken his playing to the next level with Kris and learned new skills and gotten familiar with the different styles of drumming. Kris also passes along his extensive technical knowledge so that students learn to maintain their sets themselves. Besides being a true professional, Kris is a wonderful person whose teaching style and over-all personality makes learning from him both fun and enjoyable. He loves what he does and it shows!

Tom was absolutely outstanding to work with from beginning to end! We couldn't have selected a better DJ/ musician to work with. From offering suggestions in the beginning on songs to playing live music at the wedding. Our friends and family haven't stopped talking about him! If you want to get everyone out on the dance floor he is your man! He was so great to work with and very responsive! Some people at the wedding couldn't believe it was him singing when they heard him! Definitely book him for your wedding you will not be disappointed! He helped make our day even more perfect!

We hired Music Matters DJ & Party services for our wedding in 2012. From the beginning Mike helped plan our special day with a great attitude and lots of fresh ideas that one would expect. From organizing all of the music, arranging for our violinist, performing during our cocktail hour, and as our DJ during our reception our day was filled with great entertainment. The service we received was impressive, he knew our venue, and was key in making our special day memorable and low stress.

During the preparations for our wedding in 2012, we received recommendations about the beautiful and talented Jazz vocalist/songwriter, Gabriela Martina, from friends of ours. After a fantastic evening at a jazz club in New York and a short meeting with Gabriela Martina, our choice was made right then and there! We just wanted HER for this special day in our life!!! And it was definitively the right decision! Our song requests for the wedding ceremony such as our favorite love songs from stars like Whitney Houston, Céline Dion, Bette Middler etc. were not a problem at all for Gabriela Martina and she adjusted her repertoire wonderfully and seemed very accommodating to our wishes. People sat with tearful eyes and deeply touched hearts during the whole ceremony. I will never forget this moment in my life. We asked RED VELVET SOUNDS to play some more smooth jazz, light swing music while our guests were having dinner and later for the party they came out with funky, groovy and soulful songs that fit perfect! They seemed very open and flexible in terms of music genre and cleary - we had a blast! Thanks RED VELVET SOUNDS for a very professional performance in any way and your wonderful voice, Gabriela Martina: you guys made our big day unforgettable for everyone!

After taking piano lessons from a traditional piano teacher for 6 years, I needed a change. Steve was the perfect choice. He played at a local piano bar at the time, and I wanted to hone my skills so I could play in bands, too. I assumed he would teach me the ins and outs of chords and then send me off to conquer the music scene, but it turned out he had a real mastery of musical theory, and he held it to a very high importance. He began each of our lessons with music theory - all the basics that make a solid foundation for any musician. Then, he introduced a new concept to something I had been doing all along. He gave me sheet music to learn - tough teaching songs - then after a time, began blocking my view of my hands with paper while playing. Eventually, he'd block my hands and take away the music, teaching me a very important part of playing anything in front of people. You have to know the music inside and out. You can't rely on the sheets in front of you. That's the only way you can truly immerse yourself in the song and let your fingers do the playing. His fees were reasonable and the time was very well-spent. You have to do the work between lessons to get the most out of them. Steve has a true mastery of live performance on every level, and it would behoove any musician, young or old, beginner or skilled, to spend a year in his teaching. We can all benefit from it. I certainly did. I've been in various bands, ever since, and I haven't looked back except to remember who helped me get here.

Lovin Cup were amazing! They were incredibly professional and easy to work with. Colleen was on top of every organizational detail leading up to the wedding. Loving Cup’s musicianship and song selection were superb. Guests were dancing non-stop from beginning to end of the evening at which point everyone chanted for an encore. Loving Cup rules and are so much more than just a great wedding band. I could not recommend them more highly!

We absolutely loved Java Jive. We were so lucky to have them at our wedding! They were so flexible and learned a number of new songs for us. The customer service and care was as if we were their only customer. Throughout the planning process they were incredibly responsive and flexible (as our ideas about the wedding music changed). They walked us through the whole process identifying things we hadn't even thought of. They had played at our venue, the Popponesset Inn a number of times and knew just exactly what we needed for setup and for best sound quality. Java Jive is also so affordable in comparison to other wedding bands. By far the absolute best value and price that we could find, yet the quality of their music was outstanding. We totally love this band and have recommended them to everyone!

These two are absolutely amazing!! Hired them for my wedding to entertain my guests during cocktail hour while the bridal party did photos. I could rest easy knowing my guests weren't sitting restlessly waiting for dinner. I got so much wonderful feedback from friends and family asking where they performed daily! Very classy couple who truly enjoys what they do-and brings that joy to your special day. Definitely don't hesitate to book!!! My only regret is that as the bride I didn't get to see the full performance!

Boston Premier performed at our May 2018 wedding and was FABULOUS! We knew we needed a band with high energy that would keep our guests dancing all night and they surpassed all expectations! Kelly and Doug killed it with their incredible voices. Ceasar was our primary contact. He took care of all of our requests and did everything we asked including setting us up a small sound system for the ceremony and playing our cocktail hour playlist. I didn't worry about a single thing! It was a fantastic time, and people came up to us all night long to rave about the band. I couldn't recommend Boston Premier more highly! They are totally worth the money and one of the most reasonably priced groups in Boston. BOOK THIS BAND!!!

"We absolutely loved the band and have had nothing but extremely positive reviews and comments from our guests. Many of them saying things like “the most fun they’ve had in a long time!” and one couple even told us that was the best reception they’ve been to since their own. Everything about the band, MC, coordinator, etc. was of the utmost professionalism and everything was delivered perfectly. Overall, absolutely fantastic! Thanks again, Rob Forgione”

We hired Rachel and her colleague Jack to play at our wedding (arrival, ceremony, and cocktail hour), and they were a joy to work with! They came highly recommended by a friend and exceeded our expectations. Rachel has a beautiful voice and Jack was excellent on the guitar. They had a great repertoire; we always wanted folk music played at our wedding and they crafted a wonderful playlist, expanding on a short list of our favorites. We'd happily work with Rachel (and Jack!) again.

In their third year, the band is unleashing their unique electro-funk-jazz sonic explorations throughout the northeast, having performed at venues, such as The Middle East Downstairs (Boston), Nectar's (Burlington, VT), Sullivan Hall (NYC), and Cafe Campus (Montreal, QC). Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
