Introduction: People come to music for a wide variety of reasons. What they want to get out of their musical journey and what they are able to put into the effort varies even more so. The challenge for the teacher is to find the right balance for each student. Ideally I want my students to understand the foundations of music which include an understanding of acoustics, harmony, melody, and rhythm. But not everyone has the time or inclination to approach these elements with the same rigor. I will work with the student to find the right balance in order to make the process of learning rewarding in and of itself. My approach will favor that which allows each student to leverage their resources and to give them the tools to become self motivated and able to enjoy an ongoing journey of discovery and learning. Giving people the tools and knowledge to find a voice on their instrument! Knowing how to continue on a musical journey in a way that provide enjoyment and satisfaction that can continue to grow is a source of joy it would hard to overestimate.

I took a handful of mandolin lessons from Frank, all of which were stimulating and motivating. Frank knows how to connect theory to a novice musician's practical needs, and he has a lifetime of knowledge and advice to offer.

Frank provided an excellent experience that I've never had before. I went to him for intermediate lessons on guitar improvisation. First he took my guitar and explained how to properly set up the little things I'd never think to adjust. Then he explained to me some music theory concepts that completely changed the way I thought about the fundamentals of music. The lesson ended with him giving me some very practical, feasible practice to do in my own time. He'd be worth the money just to hear him give a quick lecture on what music is all about. Also, check out his website - this guys clearly lives a life of creativity and pursues his curiosities. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who is looking to step further into a life of music and self-expression.
