Hired Alejandro for private tutoring for my husband. He’s a beginner and is very happy with his lessons.
I did the online GMAT tutoring with Steve. I mostly needed help with Quant but a little Verbal as well. I went from 520 to 730 with a lot of hard work. Fantastic tutoring.
Oliver tutored me for my Statistics exam among other Math related courses. I struggled with math all of my academic life and Oliver was well aware of my fears and weaknesses with math in general. He was able to accommodate his teaching style to my needs. I would not have passed otherwise. Oliver is very kind, hard working, smart and reliable. I owe him a lot of credit for helping me get through my courses in math!
Thumbtack provides a sophisticated, efficient, and effective framework for tutoring. For us, this was a much better option than the large impersonal prep companies that are not flexible about crafting approaches for different kinds of students. I would recommend Bootstrap very highly and will continue to use them throughout the coming months. A great discovery!
Mrs. Grasso has been fantastic to work with. My 8th grade son who Mrs. Grasso is tutoring in geometry says Mrs. Grasso is helpful, easy to talk to, and kind. As a parent I appreciate Mrs. Grasso’s kind nature and her ability to engage and teach. We live in another state so sessions are held via WizIQ which has been easy to use. We feel very lucky to have found Mrs. Grasso on Thumbtack!
Samantha is tutoring my daughter in high school honors French. I like that she tailors her lessons to her ability, learning style and current school lessons. She is also warm and engaging. This has made such a comfortable learning environment. Samantha has been the right choice for us, but I can see her working very well with any age person who wants to to learn or brush up on their French.
The job was tutoring university statistics very late in the game (4 weeks prior to exam, if that). The tutor, Ken, was outstanding, giving as much time as was needed (a lot of time was needed) and beyond that bolstering spirits and showing belief in the student - which was invaluable. The student passed the course, which at no time seemed certain. Quantum Prep was upfront about the possibility of not passing, which was appreciated, and actually gave more incentive to go "full steam ahead" with intensive hours to achieve the goal. The Quantum Prep team was responsive to issues which cropped up, such as problems with the online textbook, and scheduling snafus as well. They gave periodic updates which were enormously appreciated. They will be my first call for all tutoring in the future.
John has tremendous knowledge and experience teaching algebra. His passion is remarkable and infectious. He has a structured approach to breaking down all of the concepts and teaching them one-by-one. In 5 meetings he has covered nearly a whole year of course work. His follow-up after meetings is fantastic and he always arrives on time, enthusiastic to get started. My son and I couldn't be happier!
Before UMB, I have never taken a class on a different language due to the fact that I went to a technical trade high school. As a Transfer Student entering UMASS Boston, it is a requirement that the student must take 2 semesters (101 and 201) of a language. I chose Spanish because I thought it was the second most spoken language next to English. After the first few weeks of trying to learn spanish with the course and a couple iphone apps, my professor recommended that I go to the UMB tutoring center to better understand this Spanish language. It was at this scheduling session where I was matched up with Arlete as my tutor. We would meet once a week to go over the weekly material and she would give me pointers on how to study and clarify the words that I was unfamiliar with along the way. After a few weeks into the semester, I knew that if I had any chance of passing the class that it would be with the tutoring assistance from Arlete that I could achieve my goal. I ended up passing SPAN101 in the Fall Semester. As the Spring Semester rolled around, I was put into the SPAN201 where I knew I was going back to the tutoring center to find further assistance to help me pass this course as well. While the process for establishing a tutor took longer due to the snow days, I had one session with a different tutor until I made it clear with Arlete that I would like her to tutor me for another semester of this Spanish. We went over the coursework as we did in the SPAN101 but this time it was a bit more advanced. After all was said and done, I passed the class and I couldn't have done it without 2 semesters of help from Arlete. She made it clear that we would meet one day a week at a time acceptable for both of us and we would go over my assignments. It wasn't until small talk that I begin to notice that she was taking time out of her own classes that she could've used extra help to help me instead. I was very appreciative and thankful because I don't think I could've passed the class without meeting with her. I believe she would be a great asset to anybody who needs help with Spanish. She has quite the knowledge on the subject and knows how to relay the information.
The online tutoring works really well. At first I was hesitent, but my daughter took to it immediately. We had a traditional math tutor for her in middle school who would visit twice a week. Online is much more convenient. Professor Holton is a fabulous instructor. We couldn't be more pleased
Diane Brown is an extraordinary human being and an outstanding Spanish teacher. Her primary concern is what works best for the individual student and she is prepared to use multiple modalities recognizing the students’ visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning strengths. Spanish is learned as a living spoken and written language influenced by rich cultures. As her colleague and team leader, I was impressed by her enthusiasm, commitment to her students and her work ethic. As the parent three students, I was delighted by the depth and breadth their Spanish knowledge after just two years of Middle School Spanish.

Elisha is a math genius! She is very patient and her interpersonal skills allow her to understand and customize her tutoring to each student. She is willing to take the time and effort to walk you through the problems and ensure you understand the underlying concept enabling you to excel in the long term.
I have worked with Gabriela for many years and have always found her to be top notch! She has taught all levels of noncredit Spanish courses at Northern Essex College and have found her to be professional, patient, punctual, flexible effective and always has each student's best interests at heart. She's a great teacher and her students have not only been happy with Gabriela's teaching, they have asked for more opportunities to learn from her!
I have had Tutors for a few different languages (Japanese & Portugues) so I have experience in working with people of all skill levels trying to teach me a foreign language; that said, Candi is BY FAR the best tutor I've had the pleasure of working with. What makes Candi fit with me is her extreme flexibility. My job sends me on the road at a moments notice and each time I've had to change the schedule Candi has been able to happily accommodate me. A big part of Candi's approach is her positivity, which keeps me smiling and always looking forward to my class. When it comes to her approach to teaching as a tutor, Candi is professional, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. Tutoring an adult comes with specific challenges, dedication being the most destructive, but Candi's style inspires one to keep with the program and her abilities allow you to have successes on a weekly or bi-weekly basis further inspiring you to move forward. As you can probably tell I am very fond of and thankful for Candi, she's an amazing Teacher and the main reason why I'll be touring Spain next year with a great grasp of the local language. Definitely sign up for her program and you'll be speaking Spanish in no time!
Rebecca Oscar: “Trevor is a very capable tutor who extended his expertise to my children in an organized and thoughtful fashion. The materials he uses to teach writing are strong and established classical methods and his patience and kindness creates a valuable learning environment. Trevor is an approachable educator who is supportive and offers feedback to both parent and child. I highly recommend Trevor for anyone looking to strengthen their child's academic performance."
We had a positive experience working with Lowden Tutoring. The only thing that would have made it better for me was location, but that is on me. Erika is very kind and patient.
I currently teach at the middle school and university levels. I also have extensive high school teaching experience. I tutor in reading and writing in all aspects of social studies, language arts and economics.
An undergraduate student at MIT, I have over 4 years of tutoring experience, with middle school students and high school students alike. I've personally tutored 6 students to an ACT score of 34s, 35s and 36s, and I'm eager to continue helping more students achieve their dreams.
I am professionally engaged in an environment which constantly requires my knowledge of the sciences in which I would be tutoring in.
Certified elementary special education teacher grades K-5 I am a special education teacher, certified in Orton-Gillingham by the Massachusetts General Hospital. I ran the Language Based Program in Weymouth for 19 years. I specialize in teaching a phonics based approach to Reading, Writing and Spelling. Individual tutoring is ideally suited to remediate the student's specific weaknesses. Phonics instruction helps the student with reading fluency and comprehension. Tutoring gives the student the confidence they need to be successful in school by boosting their self esteem and helping them to take risks necessary to learn. I try to foster an appreciation for reading by using reading material that matches each student's interests.
