I spent a summer exercising with Amanda. We met a couple of times a week. Every time we met she had a plan for the day. I would say that I am pretty fit. I am not the strongest person, but I have pretty good endurance. That being said, Amanda's workouts pushed me to my absolute limits (in the best way possible!). She introduced me to burpee ladders (where you add a repetition of a burpee to every set you complete) and many other forms of exercise. She incorporated into her plans so many different forms of exercise (light weight-lifting, running, static exercises, yoga, etc.). She took my likes into consideration and often included them in her plans. She also introduced me to many other forms of exercise, which made exercising with her very exciting and fresh. What was great about Amanda was that she was very knowledgeable. If I came in one day and she had a plan for the day, but I told her that I didn't want to strain or work on a certain part of my body because I was injured (or I told her I wanted to work on a different part of my body), she was very quick to come up with a different plan for the day. And the workouts never felt sloppily thrown together! There was a very impactful progression to her workouts. I also never felt discouraged at the end of her workouts. I always looked forward to exercising with Amanda because she was perfectly balanced in creating an uplifting environment AND pushing me to my absolute limits. I cannot recommend Amanda highly enough! She has a very healthy lifestyle, she is incredibly knowledgeable, and she is MORE than willing to meet you wherever you are in your "walk with exercise" and help you to reach your goals!See more

Do deep tissue massages work?

What is a traditional Thai massage?

What are the different Swedish massage techniques?

There are five main techniques in Swedish massage: effleurage, friction, petrissage, tapotement and vibration. Within each category there are various movements, all intended to ease muscle tension and pain. Each movement has a specific purpose for loosening, warming, soothing or stimulating your muscles during your massage. Here is a breakdown of each of the five Swedish massage techniques:

  • Effleurage: Sweeping, gliding, smooth long strokes done with the hands or forearms. These strokes can loosen and warm the body and are said to help stimulate blood flow.
  • Friction: These circular or transverse rubbing strokes are also warming and can get deeper into the muscle tissue. They should be avoided on injured or inflamed areas or areas.
  • Petrissage: Lifting, kneading, skin rolling, muscle rolling and wringing. These movements help with circulation, which stimulates cell regeneration, and aid in loosening tense muscles.
  • Tapotement: Tapping, plucking, cupping and pounding. Tapotement movements can help improve blood circulation and cell rejuvenation, and also relax and release tight muscles.  
  • Vibration: Rocking, shaking and trembling movements. These motions can help muscles release.
