Nick and his crew did an amazing job replacing all of my window sills and the trim on my front door. The brass kick plates look beautiful. They also fixed the shed door and cut down some of the limbs from my trees so they wouldn't be a hazard. All of this in 2 days!!! We will definitely be calling on Nick again.

KZM rebuilt our deck and garage stairs and did an excellent job for a very fair price. Ralph St. George was very easy to work with and did his best to satisfy his customer. He arrived on time and was very neat. We are very pleased with the job and plan to use him on future projects. I would highly recommend him to others.

I hired Dennis for one repair. He noticed other things on my property that I needed repaired and took care of everything promptly. I had previously had a hard time finding another contractor who would take care of what they considered to be a small job. Dennis was professional and completed all the work timely and at the agreed price. I have already asked him to come back and take care of more projects I need completed.

Having used Tom for many household repairs on a sixty year old house with profound water damage, I can't begin to say how dependable, skilled, insightful he has been with every project. He has installed windows, bathroom and dryer vents. Demolished and rebuilt my porch added a door and has done drywall for me. There is NOTHING he can't do.

Gus helped out when my basement flooded after a furnace malfunction. He arrived promptly to view the necessary work, gave a reasonable estimate and came the next day to do the job. This included removing items to the garage, disposing of damaged items, mopping up the remaining water and removing, drying and replacing carpet. The process took approximately 4-5 hours. I would definitely hire him for future projects and highly recommend him.

My garage door was making a horrible noise for quite some time before I decided to do something about it. Went through some reviews and decided to call Overhead Garage Door Repair Expert. Ben was super prompt in returning my call. He came out to check out the door and see what was needed. He did not have the parts on his truck, but would order them and get back to me as soon as he got them. Few days later he called, came out, fixed it, and voila! Very reasonable price, great guy, would highly recommend!

Andy and Wanda have done several jobs for me over the last several years including new roof, ceiling repairs, new bathroom floor, repair of foundation cracks that were causing basement flooding, and a new waterproof basement floor. I love my pretty new roof and floors. My basement has not leaked since the repairs. Andy and Wanda were very professional and timely. They never left unfinished work to go to another job. They stayed until it was finished. And they cleaned everything up when they were finished. You can't go wrong with these guys. They know what they are doing and the price is right.

One word to say how we feel about T.K. Biggs Construction Company. Amazing. Phil helped us in our home from painting our entire house, he installed a brand new double door, Phil got to our electrical and plumbing issues within minutes. His company installed hard woods, repaired our dryer vent and tiled our entrance way beautifully. The man is simply wonderful. We will hire him back come spring to paint our kitchen. When you find a good man such as Phil who knows his stuff, you never let him go.

I hired Gerry to replace both springs on our garage door. He found that a wire was frayed and replaced that as well, along with some new bolts. He was friendly, and easy to work with. I would use him again for any garage door needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.
