Introduction: Through my exercise and nutrition coaching programs, I help people eat, move, and recover well. Please note, Nutrition and remote Personal Training services are administered remotely (via phone and computer). I do one on one private personal training in Northampton Ma. I do this by: -listening and observing more than talking and lecturing -delivering services with honesty and objectivity. -basing my programs and prescriptions on credible scientific literature and, -customizing to each person’s goals, health history, fitness level, age, and training experience. I empower my clients to make the changes they wish and achieve success in a healthy and satisfying manner. Over the past twenty years, as a Personal Trainer, an Exercise Physiologist, Clinical Researcher, and Health Coach I have helped hundreds of adults reach their health and fitness goals. I primarily work with adults looking to improve their health, and/or physical performance. I have broad experience helping those with chronic metabolic, cardiovascular, and/or orthopedic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, and CVD improve health, performance, and confidence. My Personal Training Specialties include: • helping folks lose fat, • helping folks with low bone mass improve, • preparing adults who wish to return to competitive sports or activities reach peak performance

Matt is a kind and attentive trainer who is willing to be flexible to meet your needs. He will help you meet your goals in a sustainable way! I am new to a regular exercise practice and having someone who listens and wants to help is crucial when venturing to try new things! I had been struggling with weight and was having difficulty balancing my eating and exercise habits with the many other things in my life. This time I knew I needed to do something different, but I wasnt sure what or how. I approached Matt Kostek for guidance and encouragement. I signed onto his weight management program which included nutrition coaching, as well as personal training. Matt Kostek helped me, first by making me aware of what I was actually doing, that was preventing me from improving my weight (and health), as opposed to what I thought I was doing. We came up with small doable changes in my eating habits, as well as my exercise that I implemented into my lifestyle. I never felt overwhelmed or pushed over the limit. He worked within my unique circumstances and in ways I was comfortable. I learned much and achieved making my health a priority in life. MATT KNOWS HIS STUFF! I've been working out with Matt for a while and knew that my eating/drinking habits may be impacting my results. I added on the Nutrition Coaching package and couldn't be more excited about dieting. We went over ALL the details of my normal routine and eating/drinking habits and he put together this FANTASTIC plan that included the amounts of each food group I should be eating a day as well as alternate ideas for snacks and such. IT HAS BEEN SO HELPFUL. He doesn't ask me to do anything crazy with my diet either... just making small changes here and there until I feel comfortable to take the next step. No calorie counting/smoothie diets/eating a cracker for breakfast or any other diet that sets you up to fail. If you're on the fence at all, GIVE HIM A CALL. You won't be disappointed!

I started workingwith Matt as I was preparing for a Boston Qualifying marathon. While a BQ was already a stretchgoal for me, I was also strugglingwith some persistentinjuries and muscle imbalance. Matt not only spent time listening and observing, he explainedthe rationalebehind his analysisand recommendations. That's when I knew I wasn't getting a generic strengthprogram, but one that was knowledge-based and designedspecifically for me. Matt is engaged and observant in sessions, and ensures that exercises are executed correctly with patient and clear instruction. With Matt's help, I ran that Boston qualifier almost 5 minutes faster than goal time!

Matt became my Personal Trainer after I experienced a head on auto collision and had been encouraged by my primary physician to enter into recovery training with a Personal Trainer. Matt was very thorough in listening and designing a multi-level training program for me that both encouraged progress but also changed exercises and levels as progress was made. Matt was thoughtful and careful to make adjustments as needed. Six months of training paid off with a full recovery. Matt is a superior Personal Trainer! Well done, Matt!

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

    The prices you see on Thumbtack are monthly charges. Nutrition Coaching packages have a six month minimum commitment. To train with me in person, we do have to work out a membership fee with the Northampton Athletic club, my clients are entitled to a discount on this, otherwise there are no additional fees or charges for any of my services.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

    With nutrition coaching, I'll send you a quick application form that asks a few basic questions about you and what you are looking for. The purpose is just to make sure that my services are a good fit. We'll set up an initial call just to chat, and give you a chance to ask any questions. The idea here is to see if we are a good match. At this point if you enroll and pay for the service. I will send you a welcome email with some info to get started, one thing being scheduling our first session. The first few sessions I am getting your "story", and we are collaborating on a plan for success. Eventually we'll be meeting remotely 2-3 times per month to set and adjust goals, discuss strategies for overcoming barriers, determine action items for the ensuing two weeks, celebrating success, and tweaking, adjusting the plan as needed. You can expect regular follow up and check in emails from me between our calls. For traditional personal training we'll meet, typically at the club (Northampton Athletic Club). We'll talk in more detail about your specific goals and expectations, as well as some background info that I'll need to know, such as health history, diet/exercise training history, age, and other lifestyle components. We may do some basic assessments to give me a better idea of where the customer is starting from (mobility wise, strength wise, etc) From there I'll make a recommendation that will best help you attain your goals. I offer a remote option for Personal Training as well, it is similar to the above. The main difference is I'll be corresponding virtually, putting together a customized workout routine for you that will specifically address your goals. I'll tailor it to your lifestyle, so you can perform it at home, at the gym, at the park, wherever your preference. We'll speak via phone monthly as well as through email/text. I'll update the program as you progress through it.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

    I am certified as an exercise physiologist, as we as a strength and conditioning coach. I recently completed the Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification. I also have a Ph.D. in Kinesiology which included advanced study in nutrition.
