I had my entire 4 bedroom house and downstairs basement's carpet cleaned and Katt Carpet did a great job. My downstairs carpets were given extra treatment due to my cat's "accidents". He even came back an extra time to completely get out the urine smell. He cleaned the grout in my kitchen tiles and went beyond expectations by moving out my refrigerator and stove to clean underneath! Highly recommend him for quick responsiveness and staying with the job until it was done!

Frank from Dressler's carpet cleaning gave excellent service and very professional In letting me know what was what and what to expect. He did not know this carpet has not been cleaned for the 20 some years we have lived here. With that being said he went about business cleaing like he would any other carpet. And I appreciated Frank's professionalism. Thanks Dressler's cleaning service. I will definitely use your service again.

AJ was a breath of fresh air after everything I have been through in being able to find a knowledgeable, dependable, trustworthy contractor to refinish my wood floor and other remodeling projects. He and his assistant dedicated their time to MY job for a week, arriving on time, being sure to keep me updated on progress and glitches, and checking in daily to make sure I was pleased with each day's results. I am so pleased with the finished project and have already had another estimate drawn up for additional floor refinishing. I have a whole list of projects that need to be completed as a young home owner of an old home. It is nice to know I have a contractor I can contact who will give me a reasonable quote and get the job done with care and precision!

Be advised I have followed multiple jobs in my neighborhood that was performed by Mr. Jaffe. (Freehold Enterprises Inc.) I was highly impressed after viewing the completion of said jobs and receiving the great satisfactory feedback from each customer. Said jobs included full baths, full kitchen, Flooring, cement work, plumbing etc. At this point I decided to request the hiring of Mr. Jaffe for a small detailed job. After contacting Mr. Jaffe and describing the work needed, he immediately scheduled a date for an estimate. Upon arrival I questioned Mr. Jaffe of some ideas I had for some additional work around the house. After making a complete assessment. Mr. Jaffe recommended multiple options and suggestions that were beyond my imagination. We mutually agreed on his suggested options and his affordable estimate. As meticulous as I am I was surprisingly pleased with the outcome of all the major work Mr. Jaffe has done for me. He has proven to be very experienced, professional, responsible, punctual, along with a great sense of humor. In conclusion Mr Jaffe performed a very professional high quality job that resulted in a significant increase in value of my home. I highly recommend Mr. Jaffe to anyone who is searching for an experienced quality handyman/construction worker who will provide you with affordable options as if you were a member of his family. I will be definitely contacting Mr. Jaffe for my next project. PS. Believe me there is no job to big for Mr. Jaffe

BTR Tile & Stone was hired to tile our kitchen backsplash. This was the last item in our complete kitchen renovation. After contacting BTR by email, I promptly received an email back from the owner Jeff. Jeff's response provided a base price, time frame and a breakdown of what the costs covered. This was very helpful for planning and budgeting. Based on the quote and BTR's photos of recent jobs found on the Internet, Jeff was hired to tile the kitchen backsplash. Jeff completed the job on time and within budget and it came out beautiful. Jeff is not only a tradesman, he is an artist. We have an old 1920's home with not so perfect walls and Jeff took the time to fix the weak spots and fill in any waves in the walls before apply the tile. The tile looks great and compliments our renovated kitchen! Jeff also did a great job with the grout and caulk. We plan on hiring Jeff again when other tile needs arise. I plan on sending Jeff photos of the completed job so prospective customers may view Jeff’s quality of work. Thank You! -The Smith’s

Tile & Grout Re-New cleaned and color sealed my kitchen floor in 2013 and it still looks amazing! They did such a good job we had them do our two bathrooms in 2014...well worth every penny! Tile & Grout Re-New was on time for the quote and gave us an immediate and reasonable estimate. When we hired them they remained professional continuing to show up on time and were respectful of our home and family. They made us feel comfortable having perfect strangers in our house. It was nice to see the same team of experts when they came back to do the bathrooms. We referred them to my neighbors who hired them and had just as good an experience as we did; you can't go wrong trusting this company with your tile and grout! JessiD from Clifton Park, NY

Phil helped me with various projects in my home to get it ready for sale. He is a versatile worker, adept at electric work, plumbing, painting, tile repair and woodwork. His reconditioning of my staircase including a new banister was beautifully done and exactly what I wanted! Phil worked on my house for three days. He was punctual, polite and cleaned up after himself each day. He is an extremely fast and hard worker, so I never worried that he was "milking" the hours. Phil's rates were extremely reasonable with excellent quality provided. I won't hesitate to hire Phil again for future projects, and I can highly recommend him to others!

George installed a tile back splash in my kitchen. He did a beautiful job and I'm very happy with the end product. He was always on time. Since I work during the day, he did the job in 3 evenings which was great so I didn't have to take time off from work. He was meticulous in laying the tile. He and his assistants were extremely polite and respectful. The only thing that could be improved on is the clean up. He did OK, but I'm a little fussy about that so I would recommend putting down a drop cloth to make the clean up easier. I would hire George again if I decide to add more tile to my home. It was a good experience.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

    • Old standard or electric toothbrush
    • Stiff bristle brush
    • Spray bottle
    • White vinegar
    • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
