Bob did an awesome job laying the tiles for our 2 bathrooms. He responded quickly to my messages and answered all questions. Bob loves installing floors! He even complimented on the style of tile and grout combination my wife and I chose. And when it comes to down to dollars, Bob is competitive and fair. I would definitely recommend R. Marchand Foors to everyone and would use him again on future projects.

James did a great job on our kitchen floor. He cleaned the dirty grout and sealed it, revealing the beautiful tile floor we once had. James was punctual, responsive, and communicated all correspondence in a timely manner. We are very happy with the work he did!

Adelson helped me paint my apartment. He took care in attending to details. Not only did he have clean edges on the walls, he also went the extra mile to help fill in cracks in my bathroom grout, and to replace power plug panels. Overall, a good job at a reasonable price!

I hired Klean Steam to clean the grout and tiles in my kitchen. No matter what we did at home, we couldn't get the grout fully cleaned. By the time Luke left our house, the kitchen floor looked as good as when it was first installed. I never imagined it would come out so good! He was very affordable too. I plan on using him in the future and would recommend him to anyone!

Service was so so, The owner is a nice guy but the workmanship is terrible to say it point blank. I do tile myself so I explained how to start it in order for it to look good but the gentleman that worked for mark just doesn't care about his workmanship. He has no pride in his work!!. The lines didnt match up, the grout work was atrocious!!! Amateur!! I had to fix it! The mess they left all over my new deck was ridiculous!!! If you are looking for a terrible tile job then this is the company to go with!!! Pictures always look good but the workmanship tells the true story!!!

Michael Jennings cleaned a love seat and two chairs with matching ottomans covered in white cotton fabric. They look almost like new after his efforts. Michael took pains to treat the dirtier areas with an extra step to achieve an excellent result. Also, he worked neatly with little disruption to my home. I am very satisfied with the work he did. In the near future, I plan to have him clean grout in two bathrooms and steam clean all my hardwood floors.

I hired Carpet Revolution on short notice to clean several rooms of wall to wall carpeting between tenancies in a rental unit. Mr. Santos was prompt and did an excellent job! He managed to clean and remove stains on a stairway carpet that I was sure I would have to replace! Once at the property he also offered to clean the kitchen and bath tile grouted floors for a nominal extra fee that was something I had not even thought about and the results were amazing. I would highly recommend Mr Santos and his excellent work! I will be sure to use his services on my next project.

We had a pipe that ended up leaking in a pipe in our shower. So needless to say the wall collapsed due to the damage. Not only did he assist us in getting someone here ASAP to fix the pipe, but he and his coworker then came in and put up the new tile in my shower and did it in only 2 days right away so we wouldn't have to go without a shower. We were able with his help to put up some plastic so we could use the shower while the grout dried. His prices are great and the job was done extremely fast to make things very easy for my entire family. I couldn't have asked for a better contractor. I was very comfortable leaving the both of them alone in my home while they did the work that needed to be done. I have dealt with many contractors, and they not only did an amazing job, but made sure we knew what was happening every step of the way. Very highly recommended.

Gary was on time and on budget. He was thorough in his examination of the full set of pipes under our sink even though we only had to replace the strainer assembly. He found a corroded pipe (yikes!) and went to shop for the parts and came back and fixed the whole thing. Would use him again. He guaranteed his work and offered to come back and fix if anything went wrong with his install.

Re-grouted the master bathroom floor, replaced a 24sq' section of hardwood floor with tile, and replaced about 100sq' of carpet with tile. The master bath needed to be completely re-grouted, without damaging the tiles. Of the 4 pros, Aleks was the only one to actually investigate why the grout was cracking in a house that was only 1.5y old (the floor flexed too much and there were gaps under the tile). He gave the option of just re-grouting or using a more expensive epoxy-based "grout", so that it would not crack, that would also get into the gaps beneath the tile to prevent them from cracking. We went with the epoxy and it looks great. The larger tile job required the removal of carpet and extending a smaller tiled to fill what had been the carpeted area, which required matching existing tile and grout lines. Aleks did a great job of managing the layout to avoid having unattractive lines and odd sized tile runs. The smallest job was the most complicated - had to remove hardwood flooring, lay in new tile to match the height of the existing wood floor, and trim out the tile with new hardwood - he matched it perfectly. Again, a great job of making it all look like it had always been that way, rather than the afterthought it actually was. Aleks was always punctual, professional, and neat. The house was never messy when he wrapped up for the day and he did a great job of managing the dust. He was on-budget, on-time, and very easy to work with. I completely satisfied with the final product, the price, and the process.

The job was to build a modular Pergola of Ipe wood with benches, 2 planters and removable bamboo roof panels on a 6th floor private roofdeck. . The pergola is a reproduction of an existing one on a 60th floor roofdeck in Chicago. Approval was required by the HOA and the city of Brookline. The vendor had to work through the approval and permitting process. Claudio was amazing. He immediately attacked the job with a professionalism and passion I have never seen in construction. The pergola is in Ipe wood.. The hardest wood there is. Claudio loves to work with wood and although Ipe can be difficult to work with he is able to handle it with no problems. Claudio's drive to perfection is unprecedented. He wants to do it right the first time and after consulting with me with the options he implements the solution without fail. During the process Claudio had many ideas how to make it better than the original and in the end it certainly was. Claudio says he builds his work like art and that his name lives on after he is gone. In this case I believe it will.. I could not have found a better person to do this job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
