Out of 4 quotes AA gave me the best price. I had a very large tree sandwiched between two houses. A crew of 4 came in and tackled the tree that towered over both houses. It was obvious the person cutting the tree was very experienced at what he was doing. They also trimmed two other trees. They did a good job cleaning up. I would not hesitate in calling them again for any future tree work that I may need.

I initially hired another person to complete some tree trimming who got injured on another job and couldn't complete my work in a timely manner so I contacted Daniel. He was immediately responsive and scheduled me in right away. He and Duma (the guy climbing the tree) worked very hard and listened to what I wanted. They showed up on time and clean up was great!! The price was very competitive and I have hired Daniel to do some landscape work as well.

Outstanding experience!! I am attaching two pictures of what we woke up to after the recent N’oreaster! We had two huge trees impacted by the storm. Both trees were over 50’ tall. One was completely down and one was leaning. APlus Tree Service responded immediately to my project in Thumbtack. I got three face-to-face estimates through Thumbtack and their cost for removing both trees was by far the best value. Once they started they were very thorough with cutting up the fallen tree and cutting down the leaning tree. You can imagine the debris left behind after the cutting and chipping.....they raked and swept and left my yard thoroughly clean. This job was BIG and it was amazing to watch them at work. We woke up to a huge problem and by mid day our problem was resolved. I use Thumbtack all the time and I know how important feedback is to not only the company but more importantly to the consumer. I can’t say enough about the outstanding experience I had with this company. APlus Tree Service lived up to their name!

Anibal did a very good job cleaning up our yard, pruning ( a lot!) our overgrown trees and shrubs, helping me to choose a suitable small tree for our back yard and then going right out to purchase it! He planted the tree, mowed the lawn, edged the borders, fertilized some of my trees and hauled away one truck full of debris before returning to do more work, all in less than six hours! He arrived a bit earlier than the 7:00 a.m. start time and was still working when I had to leave for an appointment. He and his assistant took one short break as far as I know but otherwise worked thoroughly and steadily the whole time. He was polite, confident, worked independently and offered helpful suggestions and advice when I asked him questions. I am very happy with his work and highly recommend him.

Working directly with Eric over the past few weeks was simple and professional. He always provided me with updates when he was planning to arrive at my home for tree removals. He also provided some great insight and feedback to improve the other trees in my yard and additional landscaping ideas that we can do in the future. Great guy, great attitude, and would highly recommend for future projects!

We hired Bello Jardín to do some pruning on our big maple tree and they did an outstanding job. They were very knowledgeable about how the tree should be trimmed back and even pointed out the current issues the tree has. After scheduling the work, they arrived on time and did everything we agreed on. They even cleaned up the whole area after they were done. Very pleased to have hired them. Definitely recommending and definitely hiring again!

Expensive but well done. Professional polite men. Our yard, shrubs and trees needed much attention due to neglect. The quote to maintain the property was very reasonable.

John did exactly what I asked to be completed in trimming bushes and removing some small trees in my yard. He is very polite and professional and he introduced his worker to me as soon as he arrived. Next we went over the details to make sure everything was what I originally wanted to be done. Now my walk-way and stairs looks so much better, and the trees he removed really opened up space in my yard to plant some hydrangeas. I could not have been more pleased at the work they did in a very efficient way and the clean up process was great! They do not waste time and they worked very hard the whole time they were here! *Very refreshing to see a young businessman excited about his relatively new company, and I am so glad that I selected him to do the job. I will certainly have him back!

There's a big pine tree (over 50ft high) in our yard damaged in last snow storm, we wanted to have it removed ASAP. It's not an easy task not only because of the height of the tree, but also because it's right near the power line and a main road. We had several quotes on thumbtack, Mr. Christopher Workman explained to us that they will climb up the tree and cut it down piece by piece from the top, which is the best way of removing this tree with minimum impact on nearby trees and power line. Their price is reasonable too. Mr. Christopher Workman and his colleague arrived in early morning on last Sunday, it took them less than an hour to cut the whole tree down. They then cut the trunk into pieces, which will be picked up and chipped by Mr. Christopher Workman in next week. I highly recommend Mr. Christopher Workman, he does it right.

Mike came to trim the over grown focal tree in our front yard. He showed up when he said he would, did the job for the price quoted, and did, what I would say, was an exemplary job. Far and above what I was expecting. I'd recommended him without any reservation! Oh, and he was a super nice guy!

I am exceptionally satisfied with Timberwolf Tree Services work. I hired Jason and team to remove a tree hanging over my house as well as to trim trees along the power wires running along my driveway. Jason and team are professionals and completed the work agreed upon in a timely fashion. I recommend Timberwolf to all and I will hire Timberwolf for future tree removal/trimming.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.
