Attorney Rosenthal was outstanding. I would and will highly recommend them to anyone I know who needs an attorney. One of the great aspects was that I could reach him with questions any time through text messages and emails which was convenient and made the process so much easier - I received answers to my questions immediately. Also, when I first posted my situation when looking for a new lawyer, out of all the attorney's that answered my initial post he is the only one who I felt really read and paid attention to my post. His answer personally addressed my particular situation and none of the others did. Excellent and very knowledgeable - I would actually give them 10 stars if possible!!

Recently, my wife and I required the services of an attorney to represent us before a local government board due to a problem concerning our German Shepherd dog. Having never needed an attorney before in my life , I contacted the local lawyer referral services to find someone with expertise in the area of "animal law". It turns out there are few attorney knowledgeable in this particular area of law and after considerable searching I was given the name of Attorney Mable but was informed that his practice was not in my local area.   I contacted Atty. Mable and he asked me to give a full explanation of the problem.  After listening to my situation he said he would represent us and agreed to appear before the board even though it was outside his normal geographical area.   At our first meeting Atty. Mable immediately put us at ease due to his friendly, courteous manner.  His questions were concise and on point which showed us he completely understood our situation and was able to formulate a strategy which presented our case in the best possible way.   Atty. Mable offered, if I were willing, to have me collect some of the paperwork, reports, etc., that would be needed for the hearing rather than having him spend time obtaining these documents. In this way it would reduce the total cost of his representation.    I found Atty. Mable to be professional and meticulous in his preparation, he phoned or E-mailed questions when he needed clarification, he kept us informed of his progress and immediately responded to our phone calls or E-mails.   The time and effort Atty. Mable expended was apparent to us and was greatly appreciated but most impressive was his sincere interest in helping us solve, what was to my wife and I, a seemingly unsolvable problem.        To sum up our experience with Atty. Mable, I would just say that if I or anyone in my family required the services of an attorney for any reason, I would without hesitation contact Atty. Mable to ask his assistance.

I would highly recommend Kotoni Law Offices attorney Gazion Kotoni to anyone who is looking for a competent, compassionate and highly motivated lawyer. Gazion was highly professional and extremely accommodating in my bankruptcy case. I never felt like I was “just another client”. With my past financials and stress over the matter, Gazion took the burden of getting everything for my case ready along with his requests of information. Gazion then took the necessary requirements to make the bankruptcy experience painless, friendly and very affordable. I would also like to say thanks for continuing to serve me even after my bankruptcy [and] continue sending myself updates and e-mails which is a very personal touch. Kind Regards, Myke-

I'll let you be the judge of Attorney Bombay, here's how my agreement for the Job with him went: I extended my need for a contract out to thumbtack.com for an upcoming business venture with another party. Jeremy was the first to respond to me and quoted me at $175 an hour, please see 'Bombard1' for the snippet of the conversation. Thinking this was a reasonable price, I agree to hire Jeremy for the contract. I then get sent a 'Fee Agreement' which has a clause that the 'Client agrees to pay $500 as an initial retainer', please see attached 'Bombard2' picture. Puzzled by this, I asked Jeremy for clarification and what the $500 fee was for. I was told that the initial consultation was not charged, and after that the $500 retainer would be applied to any outstanding balance. Please see 'Bombard 3' attached screen shot. Still thinking this is ludicrous, I went along thinking the $500 would be the cost of the whole thing. Not a great price at all, but at this point I really just needed the contract done. Jeremy calls me up on Memorial Day to get some information about what's needed in the contract. Says he should have something by the end of the week, I say no rush as my other party joining this is in the middle of a move herself and to just let me know when it's completed. Get another email from Jeremy asking for clarification for a few things, and then finally I'm hit with a $437.50 charge for Jeremy's time on this contract. This is where things get infuriating, as I spoke to several lawyers in the meantime whom informed me something like this should take an hour or two tops to make. Price all in should be around $250-$300 max. As you can see with these pictures, I ended up paying $937.50 after being quoted $175 an hour for the job. If we take Jeremy's original offer, he supposedly took 5 and a half hours to write this contract that he ended up giving me 3 weeks late. The icing on the cake is I was let go from my employer yesterday and am looking into legal matters for unpaid overtime this past winter. Jeremy informs me he does not handle termination suits, but refers me to his buddy who would 'Take good care of me'. After an initial half hour on the phone with his 'buddy' attorney, I'm quoted at $300 an hour for the job, told I probably don't have a case at all but should start writing a 'Demand Letter' and send it to him for his approval. Oh and just so I knew, Jeremy would likely be getting some piece of the supposedly tough to get the upcoming payout for a referral. Instantly declined this lawyer's service and said I do not want to move forward with him, then thought it would be best to share my experience with Bombard Law for anyone whom is considering hiring Jeremy for their legal needs.

I hired Attorney Merritt last November for a criminal defense case. It was the best decision I could have made. Steve was prompt, thorough, and professional. He got me through a very difficult time. He is now working with me on a family situation. This is a much slower process I am being kept up to date as necessary. By the way, Kristin is awesome, too.

Rachel helped me through a contested property division process. The division of property - occurring some 13 years after the divorce itself - was opposed by my ex, who wanted to disregard the Settlement Agreement. Rachel was wonderful in her grasp of the situation, in explaining the options available, and then guiding me through the Court proceeding itself. I cannot help but believe that if Rachel had been my original divorce attorney I would never have been in the situation I found myself in. Smarts, warmth, and a sense of humor and perspective - quite a winning combination!

I was in a very serious car accident and fractured my femur. I needed two surgeries and was in a wheelchair for 2 months. In all, my recovery took about a year and a half. I hired the law offices Joel H. Schwartz and they were terrific. It was an extremely scary time for me, and I am so glad I had these guys to help me through it. They were not only my lawyers, but my therapists as well! They give you so much confidence that you know everything is being taken care of properly. The 2 year process was great, and my compensation for all I went through was more than I expected. I would recommend this firm in a heartbeat to anyone hurt in an accident. They are honest and will work hard for you.

Melanie Soloman became my divorce attorney and instantly a weight came off my shoulders. The stress of raising 2 children with child support in the arrears too much to say, I felt as though the 3 of us where a joke to the other party. I felt lost, how could a divorce be such a big deal that people stress and worry for years. Melanie Soloman answered all my questions willingly, truthfully, and somehow made sense of it all. Absolutely by far Melanie Soloman is exactly the lawyer I needed back in 2010. Prompt, factual, trustworthy and just a suberb Divorce Attorney.

Extremely knowledgeable about criminal defense law. Is helping me get out of a couple minor as well as some semi serious jams. Was able to convince the judge to go against every single stipulation the DA tried to implement. (Remain in state, GPS bracelet, random drug testing, etc..). Very confident in trial ability, overall an excellent lawyer.

Goode Law Office was very responsive and gave us a quick and fair quote for Real Estate sale work. Stephen put in the extra hours and is very professional. We greatly appreciate his knowledge and assistance and strongly recommend Goode Law Office for any Real Estate or Estate challenges. We only wish we had hired Goode Law Office earlier in the process. Don't trust a realtor, who suggests getting a lawyer after the P & S is signed, or one who represents both the seller and the buyer. Our realtor did both and is the seller-of-the-month several times over at Jack Conway Realty in Middleborough. Don't go there!

Bill represented me in a serious criminal matter in Massachusetts with passion and professionalism. He bluntly answered hard questions, was always supportive and understanding, created multiple legal strategies for my situation and clearly explained what was happening at every stage. He was recommended to me by another attorney in Worcester, and I am so glad that he was.

I greatly appreciated a chance to work with this lawyer. I was in an unwanted divorce due to a big misunderstanding with my wife. My wife’s “warrior” attorney pushed me to hire a lawyer. (Be advised my wife’s attorney contradicted himself after by telling my wife I didn’t have to hire a lawyer when she sought his legal counsel further. That was absolutely not good and that made my wife think I wanted to challenge her marital power when hiring a lawyer as her attorney pushed.) When trying to find an attorney, I looked up through the internet and I found this lawyer. I decided to hire her after reading the prior client’s review. Through the private meeting and the provided legal forms that I was asked to fill out, I greatly appreciate the professionalism from this attorney, for ex., non-judgmental. Against the other attorney’s aggressive manner, she moved the divorce procedures cautiously and safely to give us a last chance to discuss our issue and to reconcile our differences if possible in a peaceful and civil manner. While keeping the communication line open with my wife for a possible reconciliation, I learned from my wife that her attorney wanted to expedite the divorce. That was a horrible thing to counter when a spousal was in a fragile moment of marriage if the divorce was not mutually agreed by both spouses. Thanks to this attorney‘s cautious move, I had a chance to call up the needed support to save our marriage. I highly recommend this lawyer for her ethical and professional performance.

Attorney Mohammed took his time to explain every detail of my case with care. I never felt I was in this thing alone, it’s my first time ever giving someone that kind of trust with my issues. And I’m glad that I did, I know now whenever I’m in a situation the Law Offices of Ismail Mohammed will be right there for me.

My experience with Morneau Law was incredibly positive. They were very empathetic, kind, professional, thorough, and effective. They always explained everything to me very clearly, made the process as simple as it could possibly be, and helped ensured my daughter and I were awarded important measures to keep us safe and legally protected. The situations that arise in divorce and custody cases are emotionally exhausting and devastating. Attorney Morneau and her staff did a wonderful job keeping things moving along strategically and were supportive to my feelings during the process. Attorney Morneau went above and beyond to be present at all hearings and respond to all of my questions. Most importantly, they helped achieve the results I had hoped for and which were in the best interest of myself and my daughter. I would recommend the firm without hesitation.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.
