"Hernan is a wonderful practitioner. He devotes a great deal of time to learning about my medical needs. In addition, he explains how acupuncture works should a client be interested in knowing. His hours are very flexible and the prices are reasonable. I have been a client for several years."

"It’s hard to find a massage therapist that not only knows how to give a great message but one who has an excellent knowledge of the human anatomy both muscle and bones ... which when you explain what is bothering you or what you want to achieve out of a session he can optimize the experience. He is the best I have had the pleasure to find and now meet with him on a regular basis. You will not find anyone better!"

"I highly recommend Marlen Caduff as a therapeutic massage therapist. She has studied a variety of massage techniques in Switzerland, the U.S., and Thailand. She owned her own business, Swiss Spirit Massage, in Tampa, FL, where I had regular massage with her over the course of 7 years. Marlen mainly gave me deep tissue massage, thai massage, and lymphatic massage. Specifically, Marlen has treated me for lymphedema which I got from breast cancer treatment almost ten years ago. She enabled me to minimize and control the swelling problem in my arm while allowing me to do various endurance and cardio sports that I loved. I participated in endurance walking for 4 years and dragon boat paddling/racing for another 4 years. Marlen kept my body in excellent shape and feeling good even while I was out walking up to 20 miles in a day or paddling 9 miles or so in a race. I'm in my late 50's now, and my body feels great. I've been able to fix issues immediately through massage with Marlen that would probably have become very problematic if left untended. Marlen definitely made me a believer as far as the healing effect of massage. Marlen is also a real professional and very organized and punctual. On top of that, she is a very kind, warm-hearted, open-minded person who really cares about her clients and their well-being. In addition to massage, Marlen also is very interested in cooking and nutrition, and I lost about 20 pounds by following a nutritional program she offered. I'm very grateful to have crossed paths with Marlen during her time in Tampa, and I have benefitted a lot from her knowledge and skill. Connie B. Retired Verizon Marketing Manager"

"I had a 90 minuet massage with Patrick today. I explained to him what was going on and he new exactly what to do. He was professional the whole time and when I asked questions was able to answer the question in a way that I new what he was saying. The staff that were at the front desk were friendly and professional. As soon as I have extra money again I will go back and would recommend them to anyone especially anyone who is a gym rat like myself. "

"I had suffered from severe back spasms for over a month from a work injury. The pain was so bad I had to visit the emergency room. I had been to multiple doctors and chiropractors and none of them seemed to help the issue. After ONE massage with Nick my symptoms almost completely went away! He is very easy to talk to and we were able to accurately zone in on the specific muscles which have been bothering me and within the next 3 days my muscles began to become more and more relaxed to where my pain is almost completely gone! I Highly recommend Nick as a massage therapist to anybody with muscle issues or anybody just trying to get a nice relaxing massage."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
