Piano Lessons

Billy brings a wide range of knowledge and experience and can work with students at any level. As an adult student playing mostly popular styles of music, my lessons have included music theory, performance technique, piano and keyboard technology, and working with many styles of music. I've recently learned ways to embellish a song to give it a personal touch and make it more interesting to listen to. The best thing about the lessons is that he makes them fun!

Piano Lessons (for children or teenagers)

Bill has provided piano lessons for my daughter, who is a beginner. He was very accommodating and is a skilled pianist with loads of years of teaching. I was interested in having my daughter learn to read music, traditionally and also learn how to improvise, which are two different ways to approach music. I was trained classically but her personality is a better fit for improvisation and wanted to give her more avenues to express herself using music. I've been very pleased with the results.

Billy Hynes is a great teacher. I am a 72 yr old student and at times hard to get through to. Billy always manages to find a way to help me understand a particular music situation. He breaks musical phrases down so that I can understand them. Billy has the patience of a saint. Billy also is a very gifted jazz musician. He has an incredible ear for music and uses it well in his teachings.

My daughter started her piano lessons with Bill Hynes two years ago. She was only five years old and English is not her first language (she had been learning English for a few months). I was very concerned if she would be able to follow his instructions. However, Bill has been very patient and professional. I was my daughter’s interpreter during the first two classes!  With his simple explanations and instructions, she was able to pick up without my help. Bill has been allowing me to observe the lessons so that I can help my daughter when she practices at home. This has been very helpful as I had no background about music and piano. Sometimes we had questions about her homework so I called him and I got his quick and clear responses over the phone. I am happy with the progress that my daughter has made. She enjoys learning and looks forward to her weekly lessons.

Thank you Van. I had forgotten Jennifer was just learning English back then. She's so fluent now. Very strong work ethic with her piano studies too, with help from Mom of course! Bill

Finding Bill Hynes was a stroke of luck. I've been taking lessons for two years. I want to continue and actually look forward to my lesson. Bill's personality and professionalism are key to his successful teaching approach. His ability transcends all ages and levels. I was apprehensive about starting piano at 62 years old, but Bill has made my experience anxiety free while remaining challenging. He is patient, supportive and always gives positive feedback. The best part of my lesson is listening to Bill play. I just love it. He is an accomplished artist is his own right. SheilaC.

Thanks Sheila, I've got beginner students two decades older. Never too late! Bill

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

One element of my job is getting beginners of all ages to understand and believe they really can attain a level of playing that is gratifying. My role of patiently walking students step by step, always encouraging, is crucial from me. Passing on methods to maximize practice time is also essential. (Rule #1: NO practicing more than 24 hours a day!)
