Lenae W. Badger, musician/teacher/performer
About this pro
I have over 50 yrs. experience as a performer, 35+ yrs. experience as a church organist/choir director, and 35+ years of teaching privately. I have a cheerful, relaxed teaching style. With piano students I focus on fostering a love of music and music-reading as a life skill, and I tailor my teaching to the unique abilities of individual students, including special needs students. With voice students I focus on helping singers develop good habits of posture, breathing, tone production and diction. I then tailor the instruction based on the age and goals of the particular singer, including ear training, stage presence, audition and performance preparation, repertoire, etc. I am a multi-skilled musician in multiple disciplines, including accompanist for advanced soloists and choral groups. I also play by ear, do a little composing, am able to transpose and improvise, and have some experience with handbells. I also play the 10-bell chime in Scituate's beautiful Lawson Tower. I love everything I do. I am a church organist and choir director and thoroughly enjoy every aspect of that job. I love watching my private students become musicians, and especially enjoy their individual personalities. I also find great satisfaction working with adults and helping them to discover talents they didn't know they had. I particularly enjoy the variety of music and challenging pieces I am exposed to through the choral groups and soloists I accompany.
Customers rated this pro highly for punctuality, work quality, and value.

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I charge $30/half hour for one lesson per week. I give a discount for families with more than one student/week of $28/half hour. I charge $60 for weekly one-hour lessons. I charge $300 for weddings, $200 for funerals, and $250-$300 for about 2-3 hours of entertainment for parties/events.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I try to be upbeat, welcoming and put people at ease. I use humor in the lessons to keep things fun and lessen anxiety. With piano students I begin with a basic introduction to the piano as an instrument, start with 5-finger exercises they can do before they know anything about music, and use a method book best suited for the age of the student. Once the student is reading notes on the staff, I introduce other books based on their ability and interests. With voice students I start with the basics of posture, breathing, tone production and diction. With some students I have to work on just helping them match pitches before we can move into any literature.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Bachelor's of Music degree from Stetson University in DeLand FL and a Master's in Music from Yale University School of Music/Institute of Sacred Music. I have been playing piano and singing in choral groups since age 5. I have been an accompanist since about age 11. I have over 35 yrs. of teaching experience and as many years of experience as an organist/choir director as well.
