Toni was great to work with! Him and his team completed some office painting that included a ceiling. They were very clean and organized. They covered all the carpets and desks so paint would not drip everywhere and we didn't have to break down any seating. I would highly recommend Toni and his team.

Happy Friday! Nilso and crew finished a great paint job that turned into a restoration job of a neglected house. The walls are smooth, the new woodwork around the windows looks awesome. The sheetrock was fixed and sanded. Nilso even fixed the missing woodwork. I can't say enough about how great the painting looks. The project was a surprise for my spouse while he is out of town on business. So the three day time frame was crucial. They came on time every day. The price was more than reasonable. The crew was personable and thoughtful and great workers. I will never have to shop around for a painter ever again. Thanks Nilso and crew!!

This was our first time hiring a painter, and we feel so lucky that we found Rob and Erin through Thumbtack. As clueless as we were, we had so many questions but Erin was super quick in all of her responses. And Rob was everything and more that you can ever asked of in a painter. Super professional, transparent, responsive, responsible, punctual, personable and kind. More importantly though, he was not only an amazing painter but also was an amazing human being. He encapsulated the lead paint from our home and while he was at it, he gave us a termite treatment as well. He gives a life-time warranty on both paint work and termite control work as well, so we know we will be in good hands if we ever need more help in those areas. Look forward to working with Spotless Painting in the future on other painting projects too!

Darcio is the kind of home improvement professional that makes Thumbtack such an invaluable service. I just purchased a condo and needed a complete repainting throughout. His quote for my painting job was extremely reasonable, his standard of work and timeliness were outstanding, and he could not have been an easier or more pleasant person to work with. I will continue to retain his services for more projects as they come, and recommend him unreservedly to anyone looking to have quality work done on their home.

Sal was a total professional. He was very responsive to questions about the upcoming paint job. He personally came to our house a few days before to check out the space he'd be painting and made some helpful suggestions. The day of, he was punctual (actually 2 minutes early), and did a fantastic job. Would highly recommend him. 5 stars!

Steve helped me assemble furniture for a client. I'm an interior designer and he helped me to assemble a cabinet, 4x barstools and a bar cart. He was efficient, punctual and tidy and most importantly easy to work with. I would highly reccomended him and am planning to use him again to assemble more furniture and hang art and mirrors. You won't be dissapointed!

Lou's Paiting did an excelent job painting the exterior of my house a year ago. Lou helped to pick the colors and work above and beyond with me. Recently, I hired him again to paint my kitchen cabinets and home inside. His paiters are very detail oriented and perfectionist. I totally recommend this company.

I hired Great Flooring to install new flooring as I hated the carpet that was there threwout the condo I just purchased. Wilson who is the owner of this company personally installed the laminated floors and did an awesome job! I also ended up hiring him to remove all the wallpaper in the living room, dining room and two bedrooms and paint the walls. Both projects were done very professionally and was completed by the date it was promised to be finished. I was very pleased with their work and I highly recommend hiring Wilson and his painter Dimas as they both take pride in their work.

Hired to paint a bedroom - ceiling, walls and closet. Ended up needing some plaster repair from a bad patch job from another contractor. Heber and Michael came mid afternoon and stayed till late in the evening to get the job done. They did an excellent job cleaning up, which we appreciated. The fix from the bad plaster work didn't quite take the first time, so Heber and Michael came back first thing the next day to fix again, and it seems to have worked better the second time. The quality of the work is excellent, and they were both easy to work with. Highly recommend.

Needed to hire someone to wipe out a bunch of overgorwn weeds and bushes in my yard and then put new grass in. Jose from Boston Cleaning, Landscaping and Painting contacted me and was extremely professional, timely and reasonably priced. He is a hard worker and made sure the job was done exactly how we wanted, answered any questions along the way. He went above and beyond our expectations. Will definitely hire him again.

We hired Carlos to paint an office and bathroom, both which had some damage as well as complicated wall shapes. He was a pleasure to work with from beginning to end in that he was responsive, professional and thorough in his work and his clean up after the job. He kept in touch with me to confirm the work date, arrived at the time he said he would arrive and completed the job in the time frame he had estimated. His workmanship was excellent and he restored light back to those two tired rooms. We were so pleased with his work that we have asked him to return to paint the rest of our apartment. It is a rare find to encounter a workman who not only takes pride in his craft but as well respects and takes care of the customer's house as their home. I would recommend Carlos without hesitation.

Carlos and the team at Carbea Patining are great! They were very professional, easy to communicate with, reliable, and did a great job painting our 20ft high living room. We had outdated paint and they made them look like new. Pricing was spot on and I would highly recommend. I hope to use them again soon for other projects.

I am very pleased with Van. They arrived on time, wasted no time and got right to work, and got the job done in less time that I had expected. They removed old cedar clapboards, replaced with new, and gave them two coats of paint. They came in under budget. I plan on using them again next spring, and would unhesitatingly recommend them with no reservations, for light carpentry and interior/exterior painting. Dave W.

Cannot say enough good things about Meyvin Guidel and Superior Painting. The name surely fits. Meyvin has painted 5 pieces of furniture which all came out beautiful. One piece in particular was difficult to match the color but he mixed paint himself until it was perfect and achieved a beautiful antiqued finish. He is a true artist. His work ethic is outstanding as he goes above and beyond what is expected. He is a pleasure to deal with and his pricing is very reasonable. I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing any type of painting. I feel fortunate to have found him.

Our bathroom was long overdue for re-painting. As you can see in the "before" picture, we had a lot of peeling paint that needed to be removed before we got to anything else. Erik was able to complete the job in two days, and our bathroom looks phenomenal! The first day, he scraped the loose paint from the ceiling and walls, primed and sealed everything, and then applied 3 coats of plaster to bring it back to a smooth surface. The next day he primed and painted the ceiling, walls, and door, and cleaned up any plaster residue. I'd highly recommend him for any painting!

Good things: Scheduling of estimate was a simple and straightforward appointment. The written estimate/proposal was e-mailed to me for review. It was pretty clear, especially compared to proposals from competitors. Once I chose Buddy's, a legal contract was presented to me and we both signed a copy; I was met at a convenient location to promptly do so. During work, the hardwood floors were pretty well-protected. The results of the patching and painting looks pretty good for the price and the amount of work that was needed to get those old walls into decent shape. The Buddy's team deserves kudos for the transformation. The scheduling/timing of the job from start to finish was impressively fast and didn't drag on; kudos for that, too. Many of the walls, trim, and ceilings had been shabby or in disrepair and now appear much nicer since the work was done. Perhaps good, or perhaps not good: If one is in need of a faster, more inexpensive, but not necessarily "perfect" job, then what follows is still potentially an acceptable result, as the overall transformation was worth it to me. That said, some things were found such as paint bleed into adjacent areas, a few unclean lines, small spatters of paint on non-wall/trim areas (like onto shower tile), spots missed on trim (which I pointed out and they touched up, but used the wrong white color), dust/debris on some trim and sills that was not wiped down. A bad thing: The contractor tried putting words into my mouth about one of the paint colors used on the project. I was clear about the color from the beginning: It was to be matched with the adjacent wall, and the swatch is on hand. I'm reminded of the philosophy that "the customer is always right." In the interest of moving forward, as I grew both weary and wary of the arguing, I offered to resolve by paying for half of the cost of the wrong color paint which was bought, and that offer was reluctantly accepted. In my humble opinion, the offer should have been respectfully declined to alleviate worry. The contractor went to get the correct paint color and, in the end, it matched nicely. Finally, I've waited for multiple days for the multiple trash bags they left behind to be picked up. They'd committed to do so on three separate occasions. At the time of this writing, I've yet to observe that it's resolved but I've heard that it is.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.
