Chris Hamel is an amazing DJ, Musician and Lighting Technician. Two years ago I founded Affordable Affairs, a network group of wedding and event vendors, and aggressively pursued Chris to join us as our DJ. I have never known anyone more professional in his field. He is just a class act through and through and I speak for all my partners in Affordable Affairs when I say he is as good as it gets! We hire him, and will continue to hire him, as a DJ, Musician and Lighting Technician as often as he can work with us!

Mary is warm, smart and professional. She was very quick to respond to questions I had about booking her band for my wedding. At the event, they sounded great and were so much fun to watch! I can't say enough about The O-Tones. My friend Dana booked them after seeing them at my wedding and I think it's safe to say she had the same experience.

Jonathan and his and band played at my birthday party.Omg, it was beautiful. My guests were wondering where I had heard them play and could not believe I just discovered them online. We had the dinner hour under such ambience, it felt like we were in an expensive lounge! If I need a band, I will definitely be calling Jonathan again!!! *Ps. I had a last minute request for an additional song and they made it happen!!

Jazzin' About Town played at our Engagement party in a quaint setting. The volume was perfect allowing guests to enjoy the music and still engage in conversation. Our guests were impressed with the professionalism and class of both Jean and her musicians. I would certainly recommend them for any intimate gathering. Additionally knowing that we were able to customize our experience with a few musicians or many to accommodate the space available. We have already booked Jazzin' About Town for our upcoming summer party.

Everyone enjoys Dave Mack solo or with his band. Has a good play list and plays request too. He is consistent on keeping people entertained while having dinner and drinks or out with others having a few pops and a good time.

Our wedding was two months ago in Sturbridge, Mass. and everyone is still talking about how wonderful the band was and how much fun they had dancing. Cindy worked very hard with us days before the event to be certain it would all go perfectly and she even called the venue ahead of time to coordinate times and policy procedures. Fast Lane Band even sent us a song list to choose our own songs to personalize the event! The band facilitated the wedding party and the wedding ceremony according to our program flawlessly. Fast Lane Band is not only completely professional and talented, but they also very kind and loving. After the last set, they played one extra song without complaint, for a very special friend of ours who was very ill and we were blessed to have her attend our wedding. That last song meant everything to her. Fast Lane Band is part of our family now. We are happy to answer any questions or give you personal reference by phone anytime... 401-474-1753. Best to you, Bruce and Toni-Ann

Lyghtin Up and their catalog of classic rock songs are unmatched by any tribute band out there. The singer had me believing I was listening to the actual band! Would hire again and definitely recommend for your musical gatherings.

I hired the potentials for my sisters 60th birthday party after hearing the band play out a few times at other venues... I love the wide variety of music that was played and the singer was especially fun and engaged with the crowd ... Everyone was up and dancing and having a great time... I would definitely recommend the Potentials and can't wait to see them out in the future.

Avenue Groove was my automatic go-to band for my twin daughter's wedding at the Farmington Club in Farmington, CT last September. They are simply the BEST wedding band I have ever heard (and I am also a professional musician who knows MANY bands!) Their professionalism, tact and warm approach made the announcing in of the wedding party seem like saying hello to your best friends! The wedding party danced their way into the reception hall all the way from the outside gathering spot! Once they started playing, EVERYONE got up to dance and never sat down! This band goes from one song into the next and keeps everyone rocking from beginning to end, making for a PERFECT party for any age crowd! We were SO impressed with them that they are also playing our other twin daughter's wedding this month on August 31st at the Great Hill Country Club in Waterford. There wasn't even a MOMENT'S hesitation when we sat down with my daughter, my future son-in-law and the groom's parents about who to have play their wedding since my future son-in-law's family had also attended another relative of theirs wedding with Avenue Groove playing for that one also (on our recommendation!) The bottom line is that I've been a professional musician for 50 years, played ALL types of music and I can honestly say that there is not a more perfect band for playing a wedding than Avenue Groove if you want the wedding to stay exciting, moving right along and FUN! Oh......and their level of musicianship and sound is second to none also! My wife and I go to hear them all the time also. That's how much we LOVE their music!

Fun band. Even better than we were thinking. All professionals which is a nice change from the usual. It was an outdoor show on an overcast day but they definitely got our people up and moving! ~ J. Stone, Newton Festival of the Arts

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
