We hired SSCC to install a patio in our back yard. Definitely 5 stars for the quality of work. From working with them, it sounds like there is one owner who has several subcontractors all over Massachusetts who complete the work. We first contacted them back on April 13th and the owner responded quickly, I told him approximately how large we thought we wanted the patio and we scheduled some time to do a quote. The two people I worked with are Cliff and Joe. I never met Cliff in person and it was Joe who came out and did the quote and sent people to complete the work. Joe measured the area and did a drawing for us. At first we wanted a 16x18 but wanted to extend it to the corner of the house which he said we could do. He even removed a 15 foot section of old asphalt walkway for us. Joe seemed eager to do the work and said he had two jobs ahead of us but we could start on May 5th as long as the weather cooperated and that the most out job would be delayed was a couple weeks due to rain (can't pour concrete within 48 hours of rainfall). We decided to go for it and Joe insisted he come explain to my partner what would happen and come by to sign the contract personally so we did that the following weekend. I feel the need to call out that we've had really bad luck in the past hiring people either on thumbtack or recommended by people in town. We had a tile job done where the person took a 5 day vacation in the middle and took 4 weeks to complete A job they said would take a week and ruined all of our brand new appliances so needless to say we were nervous but willing to give them a shot. May 5th came around and of course it rained. Cliff was unbelievably patient with my daily texts to find out if they were coming every day after that. The job was pushed back to may 11th. I check in on May 8 to make sure they're still coming and I am told yes. May 11th rolls around and there's a thunderstorm so I text cliff for a new date. I am then told May 13. I text Cliff Tuesday to find out if they're still on track to come Wednesday, but unfortunately it was pushed to may 14. On May 14 Joe personally showed up with another guy and dug out the patio. I was confused because when they left it didn't seem as big as we talked about so I talked to Cliff about extending it and the price went up by about $575. No big deal, if we're gonna do this we want to do it right. Joe told me he'd be back Saturday to finish up. Friday rolls around and I check in with Cliff, it was pushed again. May 20th rolls around and no one shows up. I text Cliff and it sounds like joe needs more supplies because we extended the size. Ok all good. Supply delays due to covid? Fine. Rain delay fine. Cliff keeps great contact and makes me feel less nervous. May 26 comes and have not heard from Joe who I have also been calling and texting. I did get one voicemail while I was at work telling me he promised he'd be there. On May 27, two guys come and finish digging. Awesome! May 28 two more guys come and form and add gravel to grade the cement and I provide my second payment. Excited to see how big it's going to be and it feels like we're in the home stretch. I text the following Friday to find out when they're coming to finish and pour... Unfortunately my check hasn't cleared and Joe can't schedule until it does. The check finally clears on June 3rd. Wishing I had paid in cash by then lol. From then on I contact a combination of Joe and Cliff - Cliff always responds and Joe doesn't really. At some point my partner gets frustrated and calls Cliff and Joe. After this finally on June 13th, the patio is poured and stamped. Joe came personally and brought a crew of guys and poured, graded the land and stamped. The following day they came back to seal and finally on Wednesday 6/17 Joe came to pick.up some construction material and went the extra mile by making some cement planters for us. He also gave me some paint to paint the cement steps we have out back (they're old and gross). Overall were happy with the patio and the quality is amazing. Cliff is a saint for dealing with my extreme anxiety and when Joe knew how important this was to us he came through and went the extra mile. I think that maybe they had gotten really busy and that combined with supply delays due to covid, and car problems and weather everything kept getting pushed back. If Cliff hadn't of been so responsive I would have been a lot more freaked out but overall we are very happy with the work and excited to spend many years on the patio.Jun 24, 2020VerifiedStamped Stained Custom Concrete's reply
Thanks..sorry on any rain delays
Edit: owner has reached out to me and offered his sincere apology as well as still standing by his offer to complete the job at a great price. We haven't started the job so I can't give an accurate rating based on work completed but the fact he reached out and offered to come out right away sits well with me and for that I have added stars. Based on prior reviews I expect the end result to be 5 stars just as the customers before me and will update it once completed. Thank you I gave 2 stars because I can only speak to my experience trying to hire them and can not rate the quality of their work. I will say pictures look good and the people I spoke to were polite. After notifying them I'd like to accept their proposal they scheduled to come out so we could sign the contract and provide a deposit. Unfortunately they were a no call no show. After reaching out to them they apologized and scheduled for the next day. Again they were a no call no show and days later have yet to try to make contact with me. While I believe the owners intentions are good I think they may be slightly overwhelmed with work at the moment. Based on their otherwise good ratings I would say they are still worth trying to work with as the estimate provided was good but I would advise not to give any money upfront until they are ready to break ground just in case they pull the no call no show after signing.Jun 7, 2020Verified
