Introduction: We make training fun and doable for people and dogs. At Your Service offers private, in-home training and group classes in the Pioneer Valley for pets and service dogs. Right now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are offering a variety of group classes online, as well as online behavior consultations, service dog consultations, and private lessons. Sharon is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) as well as a graduate with distinction of Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training & Behavior (KPA-CTP). Sharon has also been part of the service dog community and written about service dog training since the 1990s. We take pride in our positive approach to dogs and people. People can enjoy training at the same time as achieving excellent results with their dogs. We use science-based, positive reinforcement approaches that are efficient, effective, and fun. We also pride ourselves on being creative problem-solvers, willing to go that extra mile to help you get the results you need.

Sharon was outstanding at teaching my dog how to come when I called , not get so excited every time I picked up the leash , how to leave food until she looked at me and I said ok , and how to go to mat or crate when people came over so she wouldn't jump on them . Sharon is very compassionate toward the dog and trainer ! I would highly recommend her !

I have had nothing but positive interactions with Sharon and helpful suggestions and guidance. She has been very willing to meet me where I'm at and work with me/around my disabilities that can vary at times in terms of my activity level but have also had some unexpected turns lately. She is extremely professional, honest, and kind and great with my dog! He absolutely loves her. I can't say enough positive things about her. Sharon has worked with our dog Sadie for over a year now and has done a terrific job with her.She is always positive, but on the other hand honest in her opinion of your dog's potential.Sharon helped us establish realistic goals for Sadie after her initial assesment of the dog and we put a plan to train her to become a service dog for our daughter. She has trained Sadie to be a dog that is good in public and we'll behaved wherever we go.Sadie has been tested and received a Service dog certificate.Sharon is dependable and trustworthy.

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Our rates are listed on our website next to the relevant service, so there are no surprises. Rates for group classes and private lessons are different, as are rates for the head trainer (Sharon) versus the assistant trainer. In some cases, there may be a mileage charge. We will always provide this information in the email we send out. If you give us your street address, we'll be able to let you know if there is mileage, and if so, how much. If you have questions about rates, please ask! We are happy to send you a rate sheet.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Often we speak on the phone so I can get a sense of the situation, the dog, the training needs, etc. Then I usually recommend whether a group class, day school, owner lessons, or consultation will be the most likely to achieve their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In 2015, I graduated with distinction (98 percent on my three final exams) from the intensive Dog Trainer Professional course of the prestigious Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior. In 2016, I passed the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers exam with above 90% as well and earned the certification of Certified Professional Dog Trainer -- Knowledge Assessed. I apprenticed with two local dog trainers for over a year each. One is a certified behavior consultant with both cats and dogs, and the other is a group class trainer for the local humane society. I also have a BA. I graduated cum laude from Tufts University in 1992.
