Our experience with Charlie Rinaldi for our home inspection was wonderful! Being an Engineer, his expertise put us at ease while buying a 93 year old REO house. We've bought 7 houses over the years and have never had such a thorough knowledgeable inspectior! He spent over 3 hours going over and explaining every inch of the house and addressed our concerns with the foundation, roof, plumbing and partially updated electrical. Charlie's electrical background was extremely helpful. Charlie is not a nit-picker. He doesn't exaggerate minor issues to validate inspection report as many other home inspectors do. Charlie explained the necessary immediate repairs , and the minor repairs that would be needed in the future. *Weeks after our inspection, we had an issue with mortgage underwriter who'd seen an appraisal picture and was adding last minute contingencies to our loan . We reached out to Charlie Rinaldi requesting his help. He was a true professional and went the extra mile, writing a letter to clarify the non-existent issue. We highly recommend Charlie and Rinaldi Engineering for thorough and accurate home inspections, he is truly qualified with his Engineering background ! Thank you Thumbtack!

This was my first experience working with Thumbtack and For U Builders. I have a small house, and in the past, many contractors have simply not returned my calls because the job was considered "too small to bother." For U Builders installed 2 new custom exterior doors on my home. From the very beginning, Brandon (scheduling) and John (owner) were very communicative -- we had to schedule around the door delivery, and they were able to fit in my project as soon as the last door arrived. Stephen (Carpenter) is amazing! He made it look so easy and was attentive to every detail -- my house was built in the 1930s, so adjustments were necessary to make everything fit. When the job was finished, there wasn't a trace of dust or debris anywhere! I am very, very happy with the results, and will definitely work with For U Builders in the future. The entire team are professional, friendly, efficient and a joy to work with! Thank you!

Allan is a fantastic mason. We are very picky and many contractors don't do a great job. However, Allan is great. We hired him to just do a stucco facing on our foundation but ended up hiring him to finish a job our landscapers did poorly. He did the following work for us: Removed and replaced the stucco on our foundation, built up a cement foundation under a column, replaced our blue stone on our porch, removed and replaced a cement slab for stairs to our mudroom, and replaced all our belgian block around our entire driveway, parking pad and walkways (approximately 600 block), and cemented them into the ground (which the previous landscaper forgot to do). He came to work early and stayed late to get the job done. His price was also better than any other people who quoted the job. We can't say enough great things about Allan and would prefer to hire him for all our masonry needs in the future.

We knew from the first time we met Jeff he was the contractor we wanted to get the job done. From the first time we met Jeff to get a quote about our roof he was nothing but honest, and very detailed about exactly what he would be doing to get our roof back to brand new. Him And his crew showed up at exactly 7:00 sharp yesterday to start on our roof. They were extremely organized, professional, and honest. Anytime we had questions along the way they didn’t stop to hesitate and answer them for us and always kept our best interest at heart when it came to getting our roof done right. We have had some horror story experiences in the past when it came to hiring other contractors for home improvement work. But JPV Roofing turned that right around for us in so many ways. If you are in need of a new roof, please take the tome to give Jeff a call. I promise you he will not disappoint and you will definitely be choosing him for all your roofing needs!

I rarely leave reviews but Greg’s work is exceptional from the moment I placed the need for the job Greg responded immediately. He was the only roofing company that actually went on my roof and inspected it to base his quote. He started on time and finished the job ahead of schedule and left my property very clean. He was a pleasure to deal with and I highly recommend him for your roofing needs

Joe, first of all thank you! My family and I are very thankful we found you. I am sure we will talk again in the near future. Martelle Builders are nothing short of professional, responsible, but most of all AMAZING at what they do. I have built a few houses and I have had my share of terrible contractors but Martelle Builders by far exceeded all expectations. There are contractors that will just go into a job and just do it, and then there is Martelle Builders, who treats his job as these houses were of his own. It is more than just the money for these guys. Oh, and did I mention they framed my new construction mid-winter?? Do NOT hesitate to hire MB... I am very glad I didn't.

After several estimates I selected Sullivan Contracting to replace my roof, they were by far the nicest ( i know very little about roofing and construction ), they took time to explain all aspects from estimate to final cleanup to me. The crew arrived on time and the job was completed amazingly fast. They even gave me extra benefits with the service others were trying to charge me for. They did such a fantastic job I hired them to paint my home, and again the process was perfect. Next will be my kitchen remodel and I can't wait to have George, Jake and "the boys" back to work at my home.

I gotta say I was extremely happy with Nescor.. Yes its not 5 star, but let me explain. 15 years being a home owner means you probably have dealt with so many different contractors. I don't like Generalizing, but they can be a difficult lot. I needed gutters replaced, some minor things fixed, and my bathroom needed a new tiny window. I called around ,signed up on some online services.. and my phone was ready to explode from the calls. Note to all, get a alt number (burner phone) The reason I am posting it at 4 star is the aggressiveness of the sales putch. Sales guy kept just going on and on, I kept saying "YES!!!". he seemed to think I was saying no.. He just didn't get it. I found thumbtack the other day while looking for a new roofer. still want to see what's out there sorry guys ... Liked the app, I left this for them .

Great roofing & skylight installation work, had better manufacturer warranties than other contractors at reasonable pricing. Would recommend and will call them again for any future renovations needed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
