Star Trek, Star Wars, Game of Thrones (if you want, I suppose), Mad Max, and, of course, Steampunk. I love weddings. I'm a big ol' softy romantic, and I love the whole thing. Dresses and romance and relationships and laughter and tears, I love it all. My favorite thing, though, I think, is watching the couple - standing right next to them as they pledge their love and lives. It's a beautiful moment, and I have a front-row seat. It's a minor part to play, but I try to infuse it with as much meaning and joy as I can find.

Matthew wears a lot of hats on these days. Not only is he an excellent officiant, he's a center of calm, an organizer, and a general Go-To-To-Make-Things-Happen sort of gentleman. First, a disclaimer: though he offered the role of Steampunk Vicar, Matthew was just Matthew at our wedding. Hat #1: First and foremost, Matthew's big job on the wedding day is to keep everyone sane. My partner and I were running around, unexpectedly nervous and jittery, and Matthew was a wonderful center of calm throughout it all. For example, we swore up and down that we would write our own vows (up to the evening before, we swore we'd do it). The morning of, when they still weren't written, Matthew suggested some simple, wonderful vows that worked perfectly for us. Problem solved, elegantly and simply. Hat #2: Officiating. Matthew delivered a fantastic introduction that was all of incredibly funny, touching, and respectful. You *know* it's a good one when your agnostic guests are engaged, your religious guests are pleased, everyone's laughing at the jokes, and every last word just got us perfectly. Lastly, Hat #3: Shepherd/Sheepdog. We had a very small wedding, and so we did not require much herding of guests between events and photographs. However, having attended another wedding (with 130+ people) at which Matthew officiated, I can say with great confidence that Matthew did an extraordinary job of helping the entire flow of the wedding. Photographs were all taken on time, everyone moved from ceremony to cocktails to dinner to dancing, with admirable execution. I'm so glad that Matthew officiated our wedding. I would highly, highly recommend him to others, for every sort of wedding you could create.

The Steampunk Vicar was enthusiastic, professional, and easy to work with! He worked with both me and my then-fiance to create a ceremony that was unique to us, incorporating elements that were important to each of individually and as a couple. He clearly has a ton of experience in speaking/managing crowds, as not only did he do a great job performing the ceremony itself, but also was able to give guidance to our guests as to what to do/where to go after my husband and I just kept walking down the aisle! I would highly recommend him for any bride who doesn't want to stress about the ceremony - the Steampunk Vicar will handle it.

The Vicar is an outstanding officiant. He is a brilliant public speaker, with a warmth and humor that really shines through. It's very clear that he has a lot of experience with weddings. He also really took the time to understand what we wanted from the ceremony, and had a lot of helpful suggestions for how to make it special. We couldn't have asked for better!

Matt did an incredible job on our special day. Not only did he take the time to get to know my wife and I, he really made an effor to understand us and our relationship before hand. This level of attention to detail and care really showed during the ceremony. I can honestly say that almost every guest made a comment after the wedding saying how incredibly genuine and thoughtful our officiant Matt was. Second best decision I've ever made (after deciding to marry my wife of course).

Pastor Matt did an awesome job with our service. The best man was really late for the rehearsal, so the pastor stepped in and kept all of our guests entertained. The service went great too!

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
In general, I'll ask couples I'm marrying to cover my travel costs, in addition to a small honorarium for time spent doing preparation. That honorarium varies depending on the size and intricacy of the wedding, time to prepare, and various other factors.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I prefer to meet in person, time permitting, first to get to know you as a couple, and later to hammer down details (vows, Scriptures, prayers, etc.). Generally this is a shared meal, and is a great, low-key opportunity for all concerned to get to know one another.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attended Princeton Theological Seminary for three years to receive my M.Div., and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 2011. I also spent a year and a half as a theatre major, and have continued to hone my stage presence ever since.
