I did the online GMAT tutoring with Steve. I mostly needed help with Quant but a little Verbal as well. I went from 520 to 730 with a lot of hard work. Fantastic tutoring.
My son is a 15 year old in Honors Algebra II at Worcester Academy. He never had much trouble with math in the past, but this class was challenging him and his grades were slipping. Oliver really helped him to fill in the missing parts of his understanding and to feel more confident. My son really liked Oliver's approach and enjoyed his tutoring sessions, and his grades improved significantly. Oliver is very easy to work with as a parent-- he is responsive to calls and messages, understanding about schedule changes, and is very generous with his time-- we scheduled for an hour, but Oliver often stayed longer when he was really engaged in his teaching. I would definitely hire Oliver again for my kids.
Thumbtack provides a sophisticated, efficient, and effective framework for tutoring. For us, this was a much better option than the large impersonal prep companies that are not flexible about crafting approaches for different kinds of students. I would recommend Bootstrap very highly and will continue to use them throughout the coming months. A great discovery!
I recently ran across a review about Quantum Prep and felt like I just had to share my tutoring story as well. I graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington Massachusetts. Lexington High School is a huge school. When I say huge, I mean I graduated with five hundred and eleven classmates. I was always proud to go to Lexington High, we were rated number 19 in 2014 by Newsweek in their Americas Top Public Schools. Luckily my class sizes were always small and it was not too hard to get help from the teacher. The first semester of my junior year I was taking five classes. I was looking into pre-med, so I took a lot of hard science classes that gave me at least two hours of homework a night. I also worked on the weekends, swam competitively, played in the jazz band and was active in my religious youth group. That year I was taking AP Chemistry as a challenge and knew I was going to have a tough time with it. My teacher, Mrs. Compton, was great! She explained everything really well and broke it down for the class. I just really couldnt get everything in my notebook and in my head with enough time to move on to the next topic, so Id lose information here and there, making it really hard to answer test questions. I got the first F in my entire academic career on the first quiz. Im one of those people who expect a lot from themselves, and I expected As. I felt really bad about myself for the first two quizzes because I wasnt coming even close to what I knew I could do. In addition, because I was spending so much time working on AP Chemistry, my other classes were suffering. And as a prospective pre-med student, I was afraid that because I challenged myself I wasnt going to get into the colleges I wanted. That's when I called Quantum Prep for help. As soon as I had the first tutoring session I felt a little more reassured. We went over my quizzes and homework assignments and my tutor quickly picked up what I was missing and how to keep me focused. I felt much more confident walking into class every day. My tutor figured out how I best learn and we started laughing and making jokes as we did stereochemistry. Yes, he figured out within one session that I learn better with music playing in the background and even knew why! The real difference was that he didnt just teach me material, he taught me how to learn for myself. It was a game-changer in how I approached school and learning in general. So while he was teaching me one class, I was using the learning techniques he taught me to improve my grades in all of my classes. He even patiently sat through temper tantrums and low points. So what happened after I called Quantum Prep? The next quiz I took, I got thirty points higher than the last. The first exam; I got a B+. I went on to graduate in a science heavy degree, and got into my first choice for college and graduated with a degree in Neuropsychology. I highly suggest using Quantum Prep for any kind of tutoring. I had such a wonderful experience and have used the lessons I learned from him in so many different aspects of my life, from studying at the university to job experiences. Thank you Quantum Prep!
My daughter was failing math. After just a few sessions shes not only getting A's but shes learning math at a higher grade level. He is really good at evaluating what it is the student is not understanding and presenting it to the student in a way that they do understand. Great tutor.
The online tutoring works really well. At first I was hesitent, but my daughter took to it immediately. We had a traditional math tutor for her in middle school who would visit twice a week. Online is much more convenient. Professor Holton is a fabulous instructor. We couldn't be more pleased
Kathie was wonderful with my daughter. We only had a short time to work together before my daughter had to take her ACT and because of Kathie my daughter felt prepared. Will absolutely use her again for my other daughter!
Marcie is a professional and dedicated teacher. She brings many years of experience and value to her craft. Marcie holds a high standard of her self as a teacher, she's great with kids one on one and in a classroom setting. You cannot go wrong with hiring marcie as your tutor.
Elisha is a very qualified tutor. She not only knew the subject material well, she was very patient and made sure I understood everything well. She helped me prepare for my SAT. Before I sought tutoring, my math score was 440 and after studying with Elisha, my math score went up to 690. I can’t recommend her enough.
I have known Angela for six years and she is kind to her students and very patient. She is very knowledgeable about the piano and her students really enjoy her lessons. She works very hard to make sure that her students continue growing and learn to love the piano. i have enjoyed each lesson with her.
Great math tutor. Prepared our daughter for private school entrance exam. Was lovely, skilled, patient, and had many different tactics for getting concepts across. Highly recomnend!
We had a positive experience working with Lowden Tutoring. The only thing that would have made it better for me was location, but that is on me. Erika is very kind and patient.
So far so good! Ryan is focused and seems like a great fit for my daughter. Very professional.
My daughter was taking advanced calculus and suffered an injury during a sporting event. During her recovery she missed a lot of school but with help from A Great Place to Learn was able to stay current with her assignments. Flexible scheduling, priced right, very professional. Thank you for helping our family. Anne M.
An undergraduate student at MIT, I have over 4 years of tutoring experience, with middle school students and high school students alike. I've personally tutored 6 students to an ACT score of 34s, 35s and 36s, and I'm eager to continue helping more students achieve their dreams.
I am a Massachusetts State Certified High School Physics (8-12) and Math (8-12) teacher.
I have no idea what other tutors do --- I know, from feedback from students and parents, that I do an excellent job --- first, I know my subject matter (math, physics) --- second, I like helping people --- third, I am very patient --- fourth, I ask leading questions of the student, so as to guide that student into discovering for himself/herself, as much as possible, what is involved in understanding, and then solving, the problem at hand
There are a number of things I do that stand out. First, I'm not out to make a big profit from this. You get the amount of service you need, and meet the goals that are realistic, at a reasonable price. There is nobody, and I do mean NOBODY! who can teach some learning disabled kids better, faster, and to the best of their abilities than I can. I have recommendations from professional peers, a recent supervisor, and parents that will tell you that, time and time again. I can - when conditions are right - teach people how to tell which hand is which, In ONE TO FOUR MINUTES. These are severely dyslexic people, who have NEVER been able to tell their right hand from their left, through ages 11 to 21. Sound impossible? It's real. I travel to you, unless you'd rather meet somewhere central, like a local library. So much of what you pay goes to car expense. To balance costs, I use longer tutoring sessions of 1 to 2 hours per session, and fewer sessions, when possible. When you can't sit that long, we take short breaks and / or have shorter sessions anyway.
I hold two master's degrees in education. I specialize in reading, comprehension and writing. I have taught elementary and middle school and have successfully worked with hundreds of students in public school and privately.
I have a bachelor's degree in exercise science and a master's degree in mathematics. I am currently an adjunct math professor. I have one client currently. She is in the fifth grade and received an A- in math this past semester. This summer, we are going over problems geared toward the ISEE test.
All of our tutors have at least a M.A. degree and experience teaching and tutoring. We work on a pay-as-you go basis which means that you only pay for the sessions your child uses.
