Shujaur was wonderful and very responsive. We are property managers and have had him do a few projects for us (including snow removal) and each time he sent a picture once the job was completed to let us know it was done and done right.

Unbeatable price! Dan and his guys where friendly courteous and professional. We initially had Dan over for a leaf clean up estimate. While taking a closer look we noticed some dead trees carpenter ants or termites had devoured, and decided they should be removed. My hubby got carried away and decided we had too many thin but tall trees that weren't appealing. 30 to be exact. The price to remove them was unbeatable and Dan and his crew where available the very next day. They came and spent about 7 hours removing the trees. The job was completed and no more pointless trees in our yard. My only complaint is it was very messy and the yard now looks a mess, but thats not their fault I guess, it was just a messy job. Now I need a leaf/yard cleanup that fits the budget after the tree removal. Overall great job! Thanks Dan and crew!!

Dave, Was on time, took down a 40 foot birch tree limb by, he is a perfectionist, the tree was between many other trees we did not want disturbed, cut up the tree into 20 inch logs for us to use this winter and left them in a nice pile out of the way, and took all of the brush away. I highly recommend Dave. We will be using him again.

I had a large pile of branches, brush, debris, etc. in my backyard left behind by a previous owner. Gilson responded quickly to my request for a quote, and was ready to do the job when he showed up to estimate it. They met my expectations and removed the debris and brush and performed a satisfactory job at a reasonable price.

They did a capital job! I was late calling them for leaf removal so there was an issue with snow but they came back over several days and got the job done. And even though the job was bigger than either of us expected they stuck to their original estimate. I recommend them most highly.

Mark and MSF installed an irrigation system for me. I was very happy with the customer service Mark and his techs provided, they were always willing to answer any questions and ensured the system worked perfectly. Smooth process from initial quote, installation, and now annual maintenance. Dave W.

Bela Vista is fantastic! The communication and reliability are both well beyond our expectations, and were exactly as described they would be prior to the hire. Thus far they have provided snow removal services for us for both large and small storms. They always arrive as scheduled, continue to provide all quoted services, and on budget, and leave our property in perfect shape -- no plow scrapes on the lawn from these guys! We look forward to continuing to partner with Bela Vista, and have recommended them to neighbors and local friends.

It was a big spring clean up project that included the removal of a couple of small "junk" items from the yard and a large shrub in front of the house. A rose bush and a rhododendron were planted n place of the shrub and everything looks great. The owner was polite and professional. I would recommend him to anyone and would not hesitate to hire him for future work.

I am very happy with the service Kevin provided to me. He was professional and friendly . I hired him to remove 2 evergreen bushes for me. He gave me a price of 40.00, which in my opinion was too low ,as it took more than 2 hours of his time, he removed both bushes completely including the roots. Kevin also removed the roots left behind by Augie Gamelli, a person who was previously hired to remove some bushes, and clean the fence line of overgrowth at an outrageous price of 70.00 per hour and which he performed in a poor manner. Kevin removed those roots at no cost to me. I was impressed with his work quality and doubled his pay, i probably should have tripled it. All i know is that when i need yard work done, it will be Kevin that i call.

I was extremely pleased with the quality of their work. They were prompt and very accommodating of my schedule. By comparison to the other landscapers I interviewed, their prices for a fall cleanup of my yard was very reasonable. I would recommend them to a friend and I look forward to hiring them for snow removal this winter.

Charles was quick to respond and is very budget conscious. He was able to come next day for junk removal and did not try to up the charge for having to go upstairs. I am thrilled with how kind he was as well and will surely call him back for more work!

Chris was extremely responsive from the moment I posted on Thumbtack that I was looking for landscaping work to the moment the work was complete. He and his crew did an excellent job replacing our retaining wall and completely revamping our front steps, in addition to removing old gardening beds, doing some really clean shrubs and mulching in front of our house, and laying sod in our front yard. Very pleased with the outcome, and I know Chris will keep checking in to make sure the lawn looks great and that we're completely satisfied.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to have your lawn mowed?

Regular lawn maintenance can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal. Professional lawn care prices will vary based on the regional cost to do business and regional cost of labor, the size of your lawn, and any additional services you may desire such as edging or mulching. The national average for lawn mowing costs is $30-$50. Pros may charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or by the square foot (an acre contains 43,560 square feet). Square footage rates factor in the professional’s time, the use of their equipment, and the gas to operate the mower. Distance may also affect cost: If you live outside the company’s standard service range, you may pay an additional travel fee. Here are some examples of average prices for mowing and lawn maintenance:

  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
    • Bimonthly: $40 per service/$80 per month.
    • One time only: $45 per service.
      • Prices include mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.
  • Hourly rate: $25 per hour (including travel, equipment costs and labor).
  • Lot size:
    • Smaller lots in subdivisions: $35.
    • Half-acre lot: $50.
    • One-acre lot: $100.
