Everything you could ask for and more! I usually never write reviews, but when it comes to hiring people and it companies to do work I felt important to share. We all know how difficult it is to find a good contractor. Elsayed came out on a Sunday and worked tirelessly until the job was done. Installed 3 toilets, dishwasher, garbage disposal, 2 faucet fixtures. Also corrected numerous plumbing issues in the process. From start to finish he let me know what was going on every step of the way. His recommendations were spot on as he came across other issues throughout the project. I always felt confident everything would get done right and did it ever! Never strayed from the up front and honest pricing. I’ve already rehired Elsayed to do more work in my home as OSA is a full service general contractor. Hire with absolute confidence!!!

My kitchen is transformed!! We're moving into a home we're just in love with, but I didn't really love the dark cherry cabinets. Nilso has changed them into the white kitchen of my dreams. We've had other contractors in the house as well who saw the cabinets before and they're commenting too about the quality of the work. Nilso and his team are so meticulous about ensuring that things are done precisely right. I am so confident these are going to be just as beautiful in 10 years as they are now!

Dominick patched up a portion of our ceiling that had a wire coming out of it and was a complete mess after removing old kitchen cabinets. He drove an hour and a half just to give us an estimate and did the job on the spot for a very reasonable price. By the end of the job he had done far more than he was hired for (almost the whole kitchen ceiling rather than a 4'x2' are.a we had asked for). The house was spotless when he left and the ceiling looks great! I would definitely recommend Dominick for any plaster or drywall work.

Darcio was incredibly easy to work with, very prompt in his follow through on the estimate and all contact/scheduling thereafter. I'm very pleased with his work and happy to know that we paid someone directly to do the work, not just a contractor. He worked quickly & efficiently & well within our timeframe and budget. We look forward to having him back again for another project soon!

I needed Don to install new sheetrock in our kitchen. He came out to my house on the same day I initiated contact, gave me a quote and a date he could start. He stayed in contact, showed up early and finished the job in one day. Great experience.

I had many questions about some work we were considering and David was prompt and professional in his responses. He answered my questions straight forwardly when other contractors came back with excuses. Unfortunately we decided not to go ahead with the work, however, if we change our mind David is at the top of the list.

I needed somebody to build and install a custom floor-to-ceiling sliding door to split my room when I want it. Not too many contractors will take a job like this requiring out-of-the-box thinking, but Joe did. He came up with a solution that saved me hundreds on the material cost and submitted a quote that I could not refuse. And I’m glad I’ve hired him. That was my best contractor experience ever (and I worked with dozens of contractors on different projects before). Joe and Frank worked as a perfect team complementing each other and coming up with the best course of actions. Joe would reply to any text message almost immediately, answering all the questions I had for him. The project was done as promised, on time and on budged. Thank you, Joe and Frank. I would recommend Speranza & Son to anyone who needs a job done professionally, efficiently, and with minimal headache.

I am very pleased with Marcio's work. I had a difficult issue in my bathroom that required stripping off the paint and priming the plaster. Marcio took tremendous initiative in determining ways to strip off the paint and demonstrated it to me for free. He showed up early next morning and worked diligently until most of the paint was gone, despite feeling unwell. I was very pleased with his tenacity, responsiveness, punctuality and quality of work. He also has a friendly, easy going attitude. Overall, I rate him very highly. I will hire him in a heartbeat when I need him next. A very ethical man with good work ethic. One of the best contractors I ever hired.

Frank was pleasant to work with he did a very good. The job was estimated to take 3-4 days because of a problem with one ceiling it went into 2 weeks of partial arrivals the second week because of other job commitments. This threw off the rest of contractors ( painters ) to do their job on time ! Overall good experience

Adonias was very easy to work with. He is friendly, creative, and flexible. He has a very busy company, so sometimes my projects took longer than expected, but he is good about communicating. Eagle7 remodeled two bathrooms for me (I will upload pictures after I finish cleaning and organizing them). They took out two fiberglass shower/tub units, built a new tub with tile surround and a tiled walk-in shower with glass door. They replaced sinks and countertops, replaced flooring (tile in one, vinyl plank in the other), repaired some plumbing, replaced fan/light combos, and built out walls where needed. In addition, Adonias and his crew helped with a few extra requests as they came up, without complaint. We were updating most of our house this month, so there were many contractors in and out, a dog, kids, and general chaos. The crew took it all in stride, they were patient and worked around our schedule. Prices were very reasonable, and they worked with me to think through what could be salvaged/reused to minimize costs. Adonias also sourced materials as needed, not overbuying or upcharging. Highly recommend Eagle7.

Mr. Godek is a friendly, personable gentleman while being extremely professional. I have contacted countless contractors over the past several months and was lucky to get a response, and then very few would respond after giving scope or inspecting project. That is until I found Thumbtack. Mr. Godek is one of three that initially responded and the contractor I hired of the two who ultimately quoted. I am out of State but Mr. Godek has kept my updated on progress and sent me before and after pictures as work progresses. The scope of the work based on his recommendations and documented with pictures has been expanded. I highly recommend Godek Home Improvement to anyone needing anything from vine/tree cleanup to minor construction. Mr. Godek has given light to a dark situation!

Mr . Paolino has from the start been very prompt responding to my emails and answering questions. Once we settled on the first project that needed immediate attention, which was my leaking roof, he was here first thing in the morning and completed the work that day. It was just done recently but from what I can see, he has done a very thorough, neat and sound job and I'm very pleased with the results. I plan to continue using his company for several other repairs my aging home needs. It's a pleasure to have someone who can handle all repairs, upgrades and even remodeling instead of searching for individual contractors for these different areas of concern. I would say that anyone can expect to receive services from a man that takes pride in his work with the results, speaking for themselves in quality Yet he also cares that he has satisfied the expectations of his customer's request and needs.

We found Andi here on Thumbtack. He is super nice and responded to all our questions in a timely manner. Our bathroom looks awesome. His employees were here everyday and worked very hard to get the project done. He is not a contractor that starts a job and then disappears like so many others. We will be using Andi for many more projects to come!

The team that was sent to my home to finish my basement and main floor was wonderful. They were extremely polite, organized and provided quality work. The price was more than reasonable and I couldn't have asked for me out of a general contractor.

XCC did a perfect job installing my hardwood floors in two large rooms. There were lots of complications with rooms being out of square, un-level surface around the fireplace due to mortar, and border patterns with different wood, and insets. All of it came out perfectly and with very little wood waste (way less than other contractors would have done). Xavier and his crew also did a great job replacing my damaged sub-floors throughout the entire house - a task that no other contractors were willing to take on. Xavier and his crew always worked hard and are very pleasant to be around. They have wide knowledge and skill sets and are willing and able to do anything you might need. No lazy-bones or burn-outs in this crew!

I came to thumbtack with little expectation to find what I was looking for and MS Painting quickly came to the rescue! Marcos responded to my inquiry with a quote within 15 mins of submitting my request and came to not only 1 project site, but 2 sites within 24 hours of requesting his time to review the overall job!! Is this real life? He is kind and professional and he provided true value and knowledge of the job at hand and his team is quick and efficient. The quality is stellar and his pricing is very fair and reasonable. He was also incredibly flexible to our changes and requests! Not only do they paint, they can also repair walls/ceilings and he provided a quote to repair our ceiling with new sheetrock too! We have already committed to working with MS Painting for additional projects in our properties and have shared his info with our friends for both personal and investment properties. I HIGHLY recommend him and the team!!

I can't say enough about Roni and his team. They did outstanding work, were extremely professional and hard working. We were under a tight deadline in difficult circumstances with multiple contractors working at the same time. Roni took care of everything to make sure their work was top quality. I would use him again in a minute.

I contacted S&G about my potential large remodel project that included the following :2 full baths+ gutting the first floor (walls, floor, ceilings and included the removal of a chimney and multiple walls), new stair case, support beams for the the house, a new cement staircase to the yard, and the installation of a new top of the line kitchen. From my first interaction, I had told Edwin ( the owner) that I wanted to get started as soon as possible ( and he had a crew of 6 people gutting my house the next morning). He worked diligently to produce quality and timely work. Times where I had not liked the quality or specific detail he promptly corrected the situation. The value, quality, and efficiency was amazing! I would definitely work with this contractor in the future. Actually a couple weeks ago; I had a leak in my roof an he was the first person I called to come and fix it. He did so properly and promptly !!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
