Outstanding service and repair! I put out the thumbtack in the morning and Randy immediately responded. He was able to send a guy out that same day! Fantastic repair job (hole in the drywall in the ceiling) and did a bathroom fan install that I sprung on him! Very reasonable rate! I highly recommend and will definitely use again should the need arise!

Nothing but great things to say about Remberto and his team. They did a fantastic job with the drywall and painting and even corrected some things other contractors had done poorly. I was so pleased with their work that I am going to have them do the tile in my bathroom.

Wow! Don't look any further! We hired general contractors on thumbtack to wallpaper and it was a horrible job with air patches, not lined and coming off. (Actually wasted the super expensive wallpaper because they didn't know how to do it). Then comes Francisco and his colleague Juan Carlos who are practically supermen of wall paper!!! They pitched a great price, removed the bad wallpaper and put the new wall paper on perfectly and in only 3 hours (took the GC 4 to just wallpaper). We are blown away at how good Francisco is! Don't bother looking any further and hire him today! He will save you time and money that would otherwise be spent from people who are not experts!

I could not have been happier with my first interaction with Patrick. Liked him right away. And I could tell that he takes pride in his work. The work that he did for me (bathroom floor tile) was excellent, quickly-done, and fairly priced. I will definitely be using him again in the future. Thanks, Patrick!

We absolutely loved working with José and his team to tile our basement floor with ceramic wood-looking tile, expose a brick wall, and install new toilet and a wall-mounted sink. He works FAST and within budget. Extra things we needed done were added at very reasonable extra expense ($40-60 to repair an unexpected drywall hole behind a mirror). His team does beautiful work, and José made sure every bit of trash or demo material was taken away. They also went above and beyond to make things look nice. For example, I don't think they charged me extra when they plastered around our baseboards and it looks soooo much better! They also patched a little hole left by a past electrician's job. They took extra good care of our space as if it was their own home. We also like that he respected our desire to further finish our space ourselves ( we are ok with doing our own painting). I can't say enough good things. We will definitely hire José and Brandon Contracting for our next job.

My wife purchased a used outdoor wooden play set for our son which needed to be taken apart and hauled to our house and reassembled. We asked our contractor who was building our garage if he could do it. He answered that it was "beyond my league". My wife insisted we could do it ourselves, but I insisted we hire someone. I'm happy to say that Anthony and his coworkers succeeded in the endeavour professionally and within a day at a fair price. Who knows how many broken backs and weekends it would have taken us. I will definitely hire him again on my wife's next crazy do-it-yourself idea. Thanks again.

Our experience with Mr. James and his team was very pleasant. All of the guys were very knowledgeable and professional. They handled all permits and inspections necessary to complete the project. We noticed an infestation of mold growth in one of our properties. We were already contemplating remodeling this area of the basement anyway. We decided to not only remediate the mold but also to hang new drywall throughout the entire basement, install about 13 recessed lights with smart motion switches, slate tile flooring, and rough in and install a full bath in the space. James came in and offered my husband and I a lot of different options to reach our desired goal beyond the mold remediation. He also did the bathroom design, and suggested some beautiful tile combinations and we loved them all. In short we decided to go with James to do the work and the project went flawless. Very professional, clean within reason during a renovation, and very organized and personable. He kept us informed at every stage and there were no surprises. They completed the project in about10 days including county inspections. James followed up with us a month after the job was completed to make sure that everything ok. Great customer service!! We will definitely be using Unlimited Resources in the near future and have recommended James and his team to several people already.

Within a week of Sandy and Jeff coming to my house to see what I wanted to have repaired/replaced, they were back with workers to get the job done. The back inside and storm doors were replaced--they found rotted wood when they removed the old doors and fixed that area; they replaced the kitchen ceiling tiles, replaced a coat closet bi-fold door. I am very impressed with the promptness of their response, their completion of the job and very satisfied with their professionalism and how well the job was done. I plan to continue using SRO, Inc. for other repairs and work I need done in my home.

Learned about Curtis' company through work he did for a neighbor who was extremely satisfied with his work. They allowed us to see the work he'd done on their master bath and it looked great. We had our townhouse kitchen renovated by them. Curtis provided a very comprehensive estimate which detailed some items we hadn't considered such as daily clean-up, the payment schedule, and how receipts would be handled for materials purchases. His estimate came in at the middle of 4 estimates we received for tear-down of the original kitchen, new cabinet installation, tile floors and backsplash with some electrical and plumbing thrown in. He was able to accommodate an earlier start date when the cabinets we ordered were available earlier then expected by 2 weeks. He and his 2 assistants worked efficiently and more importantly they took care when doing the demo (and throughout the project) to protect the hallway floors and other areas of the house from dust, dirt and debris. They worked very efficiently and by the end of the 2nd day were starting on laying the tile floor. Cabinet installation went smoothly and he was kind enough to point out a couple items which we needed to report back to the cabinet makers regarding some bowing. Overall the project took approximately 9 business days from start to finish with a few small visits to finish up hardware, trim and reinstallation of the dishwasher once the counters and sink folks (separate company) finished their piece. His 2 assistants were equally pleasant and made us feel comfortable so we could ask questions as needed. We plan to use Curtis' company Oddjobs.pro again for upcoming bathroom renovations and some other work we need done.

We had our kitchen renovated plus new floors and our bathroom tile redone. Alex and his team are super nice and work hard. The project ran over by 15 days so we were worried about completion. However, Alex and his team came through. And things we thought didn't come out quite right were fixed and it all turned out beautiful. The time spent on our floors was of notice because they came out perfect--we could not be happier with how they look. Despite the timeframe, and the worry that our job became less important at one point, as a whole we are very happy with how our renovation turned out. We will contact them again in the future should we have a need.

We hired this company to do a full home renovation. It included electrical, plumbing, floor, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and office just to name a few. Angel's company was one of 3 that we met with to tackle this project for us. When we met with Angel for the first time to walk through our home, we were sold. His integrity and honesty reeled us in, but the bonus was that he also is a licensed plumber and electrician so we knew the work would be done correctly and existing issues in those areas would be resolved. He and his team are very professional, clean, and thorough and as well as courteous. We have had nothing but the absolute best experience using his services. We set agreed upon expectations and in every instance he and his team far exceeded them. As we travelled quite a bit for work and could not be on project site daily we had the utmost comfort in knowing that Angel would manage this project as if it was own home. We definitely without any reservation would highly recommend him to anyone. Our home has been transformed and we love it!

Gustavo did a beautiful job, very high end finishes. We ran into complications with the project given that it was a major kitchen and bath remodel with a lot of new structural design, but he adjusted the plans and found solutions with no big issues or overcharges. I love the finished product!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install tile?

Tile installation costs vary widely depending on the tiles you choose, where you want them installed, and what kind of demolition and surface preparation you need to have done. The national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The more tiles that need to be cut by hand and laid on the surface, the higher the total cost. Tile installation professionals can handle many different types of stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, applying them in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and entranceways. They can create anything from artistic mosaic backsplashes in your kitchen to modern shower enclosures to rustic patios in your backyard. Tile installation professions often can remove existing flooring or old tiles and replace drywall. Tile prices range from $1 to more than $50 per square foot — handmade ones are even priced individually — depending on the material. Rustic, handmade or special-use tiles cost more to install because they must be applied to the surface one by one, rather than in a sheet. For most jobs, tile installation costs are based on the square footage of the project. For example, a standard 6-foot by 8-foot shower tile installation can average $1,200-$1,600, depending on whether the tiles go to the top of the shower or to the ceiling. The total cost of a tiling project also includes the grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps, and tile mounting materials like backer board.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
