Introduction: Students that work with me aren't getting a teacher who won't challenge them to reach their goals. Like many of the students that come to me for lessons, I learned guitar at a relatively late age well into my teens. I was able to catch up to my peers by maintaining a diligent, intentional and varied practice regiment. I am half your teacher, half your coach. At the end of every lesson you will walk away with a clear idea of what your goals are, what you are going to practice this week and why I chose the homework I assigned. I accommodate young students by mixing in play with rote-practice and constantly communicating with parents so that they can help guide their child's practice at home. I work alongside adult students by making sure that I take into account the breadth of their ambition against their time constraints when creating their regiments. The truth is that, if you are just learning guitar or trying to significantly improve, you are taking on a substantial commitment. Music, like any art, takes discipline. There are no short cuts, and I won't lie and say this is going to be easy. However, I will guarantee that if you are committed to this endeavor I will give you the coaching you need to reach your goals. I love learning alongside students. I teach guitar in large part because I love playing guitar, and so it is common for me to incorporate some of the exercises I create for students into my own practice. Also, watching a student perform his first solo or cinch a simple music theory concept is a blast. I've seen a lot of students go from absolutely no skill on guitar to being able to jam with me and come into lessons with their own ideas of where to go next, and thats exactly where I want you to be. My goal is to get you to a place where you don't rely on me anymore to dictate your practice, and when you reach that goal, I'm happy because it means I did what you hired me to do.
