I'm in the process of remodeling a kitchen and my GC cannot finish the job (long story). Enter Thumbtack. I put out a request and 24/7 responds quickly. They tell me they can get someone out the next day (non emergency). I provide them with my contact info, availability, and address and I get an appointment confirmation.
The next day I get a call that the plumber is on his way. He showed up on time, was courteous and finished off the dishwasher installation. That would be great except it wasn't quite so easy.
Turns out the line connecting the dishwasher to the plumbing under the sink was too short. No problem, he had an extension piece in his truck. Crisis averted. Then I was missing a washer. No problem he had one in his bag. Then the dishwasher wasn't level. He fixed that. Then I was missing a couple of screws (ha ha) but he had those in his car as well. Finally, it was time to test the dishwasher...but the water did not come on.
At that point he realized that the water had been shut off. The question was where. We went to the street to look at the meter but it seemed fine. Then I told him that the main line access for the house was in the crawl space but that the key to the lock on the door was lost. No problem. He took my bolt cutters, removed the lock and crawled in to turn the water back on. Turns out it was not turned off at that source so it had to be in the house. He returned to the kitchen and like a snake crawled under my sink and found an additional valve that had been turned to the off position. He opened it up and voila!
This man went above and beyond. They should be the first person you call if you have an issue.
