Steve is an outstanding banjo instructor, and an outstanding banjo player. He comes to my house once every two weeks for a 1 hr lesion. These "house calls" are rare to find with music instructors, and is a much more convenient way to learn an instrument for busy people with busy schedules. In the last year I have learned a great deal from Steve, and feel like I am getting to the point where I can call myself a banjo player. He is supportive in his instruction, and we always have fun during the lesion, joking around and trading stories. He is a great guy, a great instructor, and I give him my highest recommendation.

Steve is a great instructor! He is extremely easy to work with, patient but still pushes you to improve. He has gone above and beyond teaching how to play, whether its helping me set up my new banjo, letting me borrow his bluechip thumb pick, providing cd's, recorded lessons, tabs and just being available to answer questions. Steve is super knowledgeable about the banjo and the music we all love so much! Highly recommend for someone looking to learn or just improve their picking.

I have been taking lesson with Steve almost 3 years now. I had learned a bit on my own by reading, watching videos, etc. But I did not really progress until I began working one on one with Steve. He is very patient, talented, and knowledgeable. His main focus is on Earl Scruggs 3-finger picking. But, he includes music by other great bluegrass banjo pickers as well, such as Jim Mills, Bill Evans, and Ralph Stanley. I have been playing banjo with an informal 3 piece bluegrass/country/folk band for a couple of years now. Often I will ask Steve about chords, etc. for a "newgrass" tune I heard on Serius Radio. He has always been very receptive and adept at suggesting a banjo part to complement the tune no matter what the genre. In closing I will add that I don't think you can go wrong with Steve. He would be great for teaching you banjo, whatever level you are, from beginner to expert.

I have taken banjo lessons from Steve on an off for many years. He is an amiable, kind, patient, and exceedingly talented banjo player and teacher. As my schedule has not allowed for continuous lessons over the years, I have had to restart many times. Throughout, Steve has been very understanding and flexible. Lessons have intended goals, but are flexible in terms of how you get there and the songs that are used to achieve the goals. If you are thinking about taking up the banjo or would like to take your playing to another level, give Steve a call.
