EBRR finished my hardwood floors of my new condo and did quality and timely work! Gave a nice new look altogether. Which I really appreciated. They also worked through some plumbing issues to repair the floors, and the repairs were very well done. Not to mention, the work was very affordable, and the crew was very reliable and timely. I am very happy with my finished floors, thanks EBRR Property Maintenance Services!

I have a rather large yard, and needed leaf and lawn services. Antony was very easy to work to get the service scheduled, sent me texts on the day of so I knew status as I wasn't home at the time, the team was punctual, and the result was excellent. My yard hasn't looked that nice in quite a while. Will definitely call on them again for lawn maintenance.

First and foremost I like the spirit of the owner, Mr. Melvin O’Brien who takes pride in his work. My lawn looked fantastic! The price is what it says, however, my lot has several sections but still the price is reasonable. You would want to hire this company for all your lawn care needs! Five Star Excellence.

I reached out to any lawn care professional in the area that could mow my lawn and I was quickly contacted by Francisco. He and his father both came to my home, inspected the lawn and very nice and fair with the quote they gave. They are also very customer service oriented. They seemed more concern with what was convenient to me than about the business at hand. To add to that my particular yard is not a simple one but they did a fast and neat job. The entire experience has been excellent.

Edwin Bailey came out as soon as the rain stopped and realized the job was going to take more time then they had before sundown....so asked if I minded that they start first thing in the morning. No problem and they came back at 8:30 am and got the job done. Awesome job given the fact that it had rained for a week straight and the grass was up to my knees in some places. Mr Bailey mowed, trimmed with a wead wacker, and edged and blew the entire yard for a very fair price. Respectful and proffessional too! I will be using his lawn care services for now on. Also raving about Thumbtack for sending me his profile and connecting us for this future work.Thank you Edwin... love my yard!

Israel and his team did an incredible job on our landscaping! We bought a house that had been on the market for a year, so the landscaping, including multiple planted areas, mulch/woodchips, lawn/sod, and a goldfish pond, had been neglected. His quote was very reasonable, and his team completed the project in just 2 days. They put down new sod in a dead area, did a complete weeding/cleanup of all the neglected areas, cleaned up around the pond, and removed poison ivy. They were so good that we signed an annual contract to have them continue maintaining the lawn with mowing services, semi-annual cleanups/weeding etc. Israel was very responsive, easy to communicate with via phone, email, or text, and gave great advice on what to do with the lawn. I recommend this company without hesitation! I will post some before/after photos on Yelp as well to show the quality of work. Thank you Israel & team!

I needed to dispose of an old vacuum cleaner, a dismantled shelf, and some old gardening/landscaping materials. JJ Handyman Services came and hauled away the items the same day that I made my initial request. It feels great having a decluttered space. If you have some unwanted items inside or outside your home, contact JJ Handyman Services to help you declutter your living spaces.

I had problems with lawn care in the past and decided to trust in this website again for affordable lawn care. Where other lawn services brought equipment and crews to get in and out as quick as possible, David came personally and walked the yard with me to understand the scope of work and what I expected. After seeing my lawn he gave me a very competitive price that I was astonished by. I stopped by the house during my lunch and to my surprise David was still there finishing up. This is not to say his work is slow by any means, it was just a shock to me because I was used to companies trying to maximize houses per day. Also, to be honest we had let our yard get in pretty bad shape. In the end I did the math and couldn't understood how David could have made much money off my house for the time spent there. To his credit he never asked for additional money and thanked me for my time and was on his way. Later when I contacted David and offered to pay him more for his time, he did confess it was a lot of work. Not only that but we are now fortunate to have him booked for recurring service and still at a very affordable price!

We have had the pleasure of working with Justin Roy and his crew on several projects. Everyone at BlueStar has an eye for exemplary attention to detail. They are punctual, trustworthy, and efficient. I have personally hired them for their services at my own home, as well as my business. I highly recommend their services, whether it be for cleaning, rehabilitating damaged spaces, or removing clutter. There is no job too big or too small.

I'm an out of state landlord who hired Affordable K Lawn Care/Trimming and Home Improvement LLC for front lawn sod installation. Kyle Camp is very professional, very easy to talk to. Once we settled on methodology of payment transfer, the job was done on time and to satisfaction. My local people say the front lawn looks phenomenal. I would definitely hire this company again for future projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you look after your lawn?

Having a beautiful lawn doesn’t just happen by magic. A multi-pronged approach to lawn care will result in a healthy lawn that will have your neighbors green with envy. The national average price for multi-service lawn care ranges from $40 to $50. Whether you tackle the project yourself or hire a lawn care professional, looking after your lawn requires consistent work. A baseline of lawn care is keeping your grass mowed and your irrigation system working properly. Fertilizing plants and grasses, as well as trimming and pruning foliage, may promote the health of your plants and lawn. Many lawn care pros offer different packages with varying monthly fees depending on your lawn size and the services you desire. Here are a few examples of average lawn care prices:

  • 1,000- to 2,500-square-foot lawn: $60-$90 per month
  • 5,000-square-foot lawn or larger: $110-$150 per month.
    • Includes lawn maintenance, cleanups and irrigation repairs. The company trims shrubs, pulls weeds, blows out yard waste, fertilizes and does minor irrigation repairs.
  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
  • 8,001- to 15,000-square-foot property: $35 per week/$140 per month.
  • 15,001- to 20,000-square-foot property: $40 per week/$160 per month.
    • Includes mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.

What's the best way to maintain your lawn?

Keeping a lawn lush and green requires consistent mowing, weeding, watering, fertilizing and more. If your lawn is particularly large, it may make sense to hire a full-service lawn care provider. Whether you take a DIY approach or bring in the experts, maintaining your lawn requires a range of tasks.

Plan to mow the lawn often, allowing it stay longer than may seem convenient — longer grass is healthier grass. The general rule is to cut off no more than a third of the grass blade. This helps prevent damage to the lawn as well as keeping weeds from taking root. It’s also important to remove any weeds, then prevent new ones from growing. In spring, consider spraying a pre-emergent herbicide on your lawn to prevent crabgrass and other types of weeds from sprouting from seed. During other seasons, broadleaf weeds like dandelions can be pulled by hand or sprayed with weed killers. The best time to water your lawn is early in the morning, allowing the sun to help dry the grass. Make sure to thoroughly soak the lawn so that the water penetrates several inches into the ground.

Lawn care also requires feeding; look for a mixture of fast- and slow-release fertilizers that include nitrogen. Some lawns also benefit from aeration, which creates small holes to let air, water and nutrients penetrate the grass roots. Although most homeowners can manage these tasks on their own, a full-service lawn care company can handle them on a regular schedule, taking the guesswork out of maintaining a beautiful lawn.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

How much does it cost to have your lawn mowed?

Regular lawn maintenance can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal. Professional lawn care prices will vary based on the regional cost to do business and regional cost of labor, the size of your lawn, and any additional services you may desire such as edging or mulching. The national average for lawn mowing costs is $30-$50. Pros may charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or by the square foot (an acre contains 43,560 square feet). Square footage rates factor in the professional’s time, the use of their equipment, and the gas to operate the mower. Distance may also affect cost: If you live outside the company’s standard service range, you may pay an additional travel fee. Here are some examples of average prices for mowing and lawn maintenance:

  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
    • Bimonthly: $40 per service/$80 per month.
    • One time only: $45 per service.
      • Prices include mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.
  • Hourly rate: $25 per hour (including travel, equipment costs and labor).
  • Lot size:
    • Smaller lots in subdivisions: $35.
    • Half-acre lot: $50.
    • One-acre lot: $100.
