Can't say enough about Stevie! What an excellent person and playing ability! Had him out for my birthday, played for about 30-40 people for several hours. Energy was high and super fun the entire time. Took song requests from everyone and just took the party and atmosphere to another level! We will absolutely be hiring him again in the future. Pricing and flexibility for our party was perfect! He really catered to what we wanted and even though it rained on us, we made the best of it with Tents set up and as they say The Band Played On!

Sam is not only a teacher, he is your friend. I was a simple guitar player that wanted to sound good with my band, another dreamer. And Sam convinced me that we had a chance to get there, somewhere. All the skills that you can possibly imagine, experienced on the road and very respected musician, Sam, with only 5 month of class, gave us such a confidence. There is a lot to learn still, and now all the band will have lessons. We are so excited. Just do it as he says.

Peter is an exceptionally experienced musician with experience that not only validates his abilites but places him among the elite. Peter has worked with bands including the Who, Twisted Sister, Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac) and my personal favorite, Elton John. As a "newbie" to the field of music, I can assure you that John exhibits exceptional patience as well as the ability to make the complex seem simple. Whether new to music or an experienced professional, I highly recommend you speak to Peter before making a final decision. FIve stars!

The band was awesome! The sound was great, the band did an excellent job getting (and keeping) people on the dance floor, and the song selections were amazing! I would highly recommend JAMM Session for any event you might have. Thanks Jarrett!

Joel is an incredible teacher! He helped me and 2 other friends (who also take classes with him around the same time) to put together a band that was playing live shows after 6 months of lessons. All of us were completely novice musicians. He even learned how to play a new instrument, the Andean charango, so he could teach one of our band members how to incorporate it into our playing. Joel's lessons are fun and disciplined. Exactly the combination you want for making progress and staying invested in learning how to play your instrument.

I can confidently say Escapade is the best wedding band I've ever seen. The quality of their musicianship and showmanship is outstanding. Not only are they excellent musicians but they are also wonderful people which makes working with them delightful especially durring chaotic parties. I've even found myself listening to songs they played that I hadn't heard before I saw them performed by Escapade. I can't recommend them strongly enough.

The band played during the ceremony for my outdoor summer wedding in Baltimore in Aug2017. Bob and his band were very professional, easy to work with and great value for their services. Highly recommended for events large and small!

We hired Kim's trio for our jazz soiree and they were excellent! Kim let us know a few days prior to the event that he couldn't make it, and gave us the option of canceling or having the trio w/ another pianist playing in his stead. We could have gotten another band altogether (three replied to our request on Thumbtack), but we went w/ his option of the substitute pianist and could not have been happier. The trio was fabulous, attendees from the young to the not so young loved all the tunes, and everyone had the best time. We are definitely putting Kim and his trio or quartet on our slate of events for 2018.

From the first gig that I worked with Jay and Trackside, they treated me as part of the group as we worked together to create video and photos worthy of a first class regional band. He and the group have always had my requirements as a priority and keep me informed about the things necessary for me to function in My role with the band. Love working with these guys. One of the best local rock bands ever!!

We hired this band to play a spring time event for our club. They were fair professional and most important A GREAT BAND. They made the entire event a real party! This is a ten piece band that had everyone up, dancing and having fun. If you need a band to bring your party to life look no further ( the three piece horn section brought a sound you just don't get with most bands). Please feel free to contact me for more detailed view of the event and how they made this a great party. Thanks to the entire group. I would definitely use this group again and highly recommend them for any event .

This group was amazing! They really put on a great show and the level of musicianship is as good as many national bluegrass groups. They were very professional and were set up and ready to play well before the start time. I definitely recommend them to anyone looking to book not just a bluegrass band, but a bluegrass experience!

I've been studying piano with Brian who is a great teacher, but also amazing performer. He has performed all around the country. I was a little intimidated by him when I first read his profile (lol), but he is actually really humble and just cares about my improvements! I can't wait for Peake to go to their new location! Yay Brian!

What’s Next was by far one of the biggest highlights of our wedding. They had nearly all 180 of our guests on the dance floor from the time they began playing, until past the time our reception was supposed to end. The amount of energy they brought was unbelievable. They even left the stage and came out into the crowd onto the dance floor for several songs. What’s Next played an incredible set list, including our favorites from Taylor Swift, Walk the Moon, Bruce Springsteen, Luke Bryan, Bruno Mars, and they even added a killer 80’s mash up into the mix. Our guests of all ages danced the night away. Maynard also did a great job of emceeing the reception. Not only did they make our wedding a blast, but they were absolutely wonderful to work with leading up to the wedding. Maynard was very responsive, and it was great to meet with Michael a couple of months before the wedding to talk about songs we would like to hear at our wedding, run through the timeline, etc. They even learned an acoustic version of Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros for our first dance. It is a special song to us, and Kristen knocked it out of the park on vocals. We honestly couldn’t say enough about how incredible the band was. We hope that in the future some of our friends consider booking them, so that we can enjoy another reception with them! What’s Next- thanks for everything you did to make our wedding a night to remember for both us and our guests!

David Bach and and his band did and outstanding job for our corporate dinner with 120 guests. Our performance included a female singer who was also excellent. Many guests mentioned they were impressed with the performance. David is very professional. It was a pleasure to work with him.

Billy and co are top notch. I've known Mr. Martin for a long time and he's played many events at my place in a couple different bands. He's a consummate professional and a good dude. FFRD is unique because they don't really sound like any one band. They're a combination of quite a few different genres, people of all ages will get what they do and they are super tight for such a big band. Hire them.

Xtract Band was phenomenal. They were dressed nice, performed well, what more can you expect. On top of their performance, working with Clint was very easy and very professional, an all around great experience! Everyone had a great time. The music and sound they projected was perfect. I highly recommend Xtract Band for any live performances.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
